How make keyboard shortcuts to launch apps.

macOS and Mac Apps

Hey all.

So I've set up a Windows VM and I'm using scripts to remap caps lock, recommended from another thread on here. So I want to set up keyboard shortcuts to run them. Ideally they'd work with or without VO running. They're just in the app directory, so now I'm hanging out in there and running RemapCapsLockToInsert.app and ResetCapsLock.app when I need access to the VM or need to pop back out to Mac OS to do something.

Obviously I'd have to be in Mac OS to make them run, but it would be nice to just have a shortcut handy. I'm sure I'll forget at some point and try to use VO commands with caps lock still remapped. I assume there's a way to do this, but I have no idea what it is.

I’m not sure about this, but in theory you should be able to make a automated workflow via automater that triggers whenever you open fusion it runs the script and whenever you quit fusion, it runs the other script to revert the change, but I’m not sure.

I might try that. But I think I'd rather have keyboard shortcuts, if I can get them. Unless I can set up something to automate on focus rather than app launch, if I need to pop out of the VM to check something in Mac, then I'm stuck with getting back to the apps folder and running the reset app.

Karabiner is your other option that should work. I.e, when i'm focussed in parallels, caps lock is insert but as soon as I switch focus to say, mac desktop or just away from parallels, the caps lock key reverts to caps lock. When I switch back to Parallels, it becomes insert again; and so on.
