How to trim a track on Garage Band?

Hi, all.
I'm creating a short music clip for my music tech class, and I was wondering how to trim a track? I've tried looking for Garage Band ke commands, but some of them are out of date/don't work.
Also, if anyone knows of a program to layer pictures ontop of a sound, please let me know!
