I am curious about something

macOS and Mac Apps

For those with higher specced Macs, I'm curious about a few things.
- Does the single-key QuickNav continue to work? For example, it'll just... randomly stop working for me. I'm using Firefox (it's the only browser that works well on Mac). It has historically happened on Safari and Chrome, though it's been years since I tested that.
- How well do larger spreadsheets work on Numbers? One of my reasons for switching to Windows, and my breaking point with the Mac, is that my D&D character sheet randomly stops loading. My breaking point was when it wouldn't load on Numbers, no matter how many times I restart the app.

My Mac is the M1 MBA with 8gb RAM. I'm not planning on switching back but I am just curious if higher specced Macs would resolve these gripes, it's seriously the simplest things like QuickNav that VO struggles with...

I have asked a similar question earlier and got one response. Hopefully this time we will have more responses.

This is baseline, so not really anything high end. Sometimes quick nav gets weird, often on Amazon. Toggling it off and on a couple of times usually fixes it. But really, I only use it for single letter stuff. I generallyfind VO and the arrows are faster anyway. Use caps lock and you won't have to hold twelve googolplex keys, or whatever people complain about.

I've seen this happen any number of times. Quick nav will, for whatever reason, stop working even while it's on and only becomes possible to navigate with the VO plus arrow keys. This started in Ventura and seems worse in Sequoia. Somewhere along the way, while they were changing the behavior of quick nav, something broke that they have yet to fix, if they're even aware that something broke to begin with. Has anyone sent feedback about this to Apple? I would, buy my feedback report would be as incoherent as this post.

Do you use iCloud? I sometimes have the problem, that BBEdit takes ages to launch or that Numbers tables can‘t be opened until a restart. I assume it happens, when I‘m running out off SSD space and iCloud starts offloading files. The Finder doesn’t show the memory problem, as it adds "deletable space" to the free memory. But if the deletable space is filling up, you won‘t notice it. Disk Utility is more serious about the real free space. I’ve a M1 Max with 64 GB Ram.

The quick nav has nothing to do with the specs but a bug with always allow typing in text fields. Discussed and reported several times now. And yes it's frustrating. Just uncheck this checkbox and interact with text fields like before.
