I found a solution to select multipal items/conversations in messages with Voiceover on Mac

Hey guys,

I switched to a MacBook Pro yesterday after years of using Windows. When I tried to delete multipal conversations at once, I realized how pourly it worked with voiceover with all the focus issues. When I researched it on applevis, I saw this post: https://www.applevis.com/forum/macos-mac-apps/deleting-conversations-mac-messages

As a tech nerd, when I discovered this ridiculous focus issue, I knew it wouldn't stop me from finding a better solution. Let's go over the steps to select multiple conversations for deletion.

To select a conversation like a sighted person would, you need to click on the conversation while holding the Command key. Before doing this, ensure that the mouse cursor follows the VO cursor and disable the trackpad, as you'll need to use it like a sighted person. Start selecting conversations by holding the Command key and clicking the trackpad. You’ll need to repeat this step for each conversation you want to select.

Once you’ve confirmed that only the conversations you want to delete are selected, go to the conversation menu and choose **Delete Conversations**. After you hit **OK**, those unwanted chats should be gone.

Thank me later,
Mert Özer

Glad you found a way around a VO limitation. Having said that, am I correct and guessing that VO plus command plus space bar will not allow you to select multiple conversations, like we would do to select multiple files in a folder directory?

Hello, VO/COMMAND/SPACE opens the quick actions menu for an item. What you may be referring to is VO/COMMAND/RETURN for the selection mode but that doesn't work in messages, surprise surprise...

Yes, I did indeed mean return. It has been too long for me since I last touched my MacBook Pro. Ha ha ha
