Hi everyone. Just a bit ago as I was writing in my personal journal, an idea about Apple Intelligence popped into my mind and I'm curious what y'all think. Those of us who used the Braille 'n Speak and the Type 'n Speak might remember a feature where documents would automatically save, without the need for clicking on a "Save" button or anything like that. I'm wondering if Apple could eventually implement such a feature? This would probably be down the road a bit, since Apple intelligence was just rolled out. I for one am very impressed thus far with the writing tools which the company has made available, but this could be an expansion of those. Thoughts anyone?

Ask to keep changes when closing documents
The above option is already available in the mac. TextEdit, if the above option is toggled to on, will automatically save changes. Not sure if this encompasses all other apps.
Re: Ask to Keep Changes
I forgot about that one but will have to check it out. It hasn't appeared all the time for me but perhaps I'm missing something. Thanks for pointing that out.
I think this is the default…
I think this is the default behaviour of mac OS. If you go into system settings Desktop And Dock, then uncheck Ask to keep changes when closing documents, in all the editors I use, it just keeps them as I last left them, this includes notes, ulysses, text edit etc.
It is one of the big advantages of the Mac, I think, that you can just kill an app and the save state remains.
Regarding Text edit, I do leave ask to save changes on though as I often use it as a note pad when coding and I don't really want a huge bunch of untitled files clogging things up. Maybe what AI will be able to do is look at the file and give it a descriptive name when saving. That would be very useful.
What I think would be very beneficial
I think it would be very beneficial, if whenever we create a document like this, and just close the app, the file was automatically saved with the file name such as date and time. For example, January 12, 2025, 2:30 5 PM.
I just think this would be a nice way of ensuring that should something happen, such as application crash, power outage, whatever, that the file would be saved and retrievable.
On a completely separate note, we get this functionality in windows as well. At least with notepad with regards to keeping changes on application exit. 😇
