Making an option+click with VoiceOver or the keyboard on macOS

Hi
I'm curious if there is a way to make something equivalent to the option+click that, among other things, enables you to change audio devices from the volume menu, using VoiceOver? Routing the mouse cursor to the item in question, and then doing the option+click works fine, but I haven't found a way to do it completely from the keyboard.
VO+CMD+space, which shows the actions menu for an item, doesn't let me do it either.
Sometimes, holding down option and pressing enter has the same effect, but that only works inside a menu, and not on the status menu itself, so it is not a viable solution.

I find myself in the same position, I need to option click something in the status bar, and cannot come up with an equivalent keyboard gesture.

Hi
Unfortunately not. One thing you can do is making an item in the keyboard commander that equates to right click, but that doesn't work like an option click in all cases, though it solves some niche situations, specifically, for me, the contextual menu in Wunderlist for mac.

shift-space

Hi
Thanks. However, Shift-space doesn't seem to work for me, even when the mouse cursor is routed. In which context does that apply?
Unless you mean vo+shift+space, but that just does a normal mouse click without the effect of the option key being applied

you should not need to move the mouse focus. when the vo cursor is focused on the element, you should be able to perform option-click on that element using shift-space. but you said it didn't work for you, so i guess it's not much help.

It’s not an ideal solution, but in situations where I have to do an actual mouse click, I will do the following:

1. Focus on the element I need to click.
2. Press VO-Command-F5 to make doubly sure the mouse pointer is on the element.
3. Click the mouse button directly, either on the mouse or trackpad, making sure not to move the mouse pointer by accident while doing this.

This way, I am free to hold down any modifier keys necessary, such as Option, Command, etc., as well as double-clicking or triple-clicking as necessary to do whatever I’m trying to do. Some mouse actions simply cannot be simulated with VoiceOver, particularly in apps that aren’t VoiceOver friendly. I remember status bar menus being especially prone to not working nicely with VO.
