Paying to Download Software Updates?

Hi everyone. This morning I called and an Apple support technician patiently walked me through the process of creating an Apple ID. That went great. He was very helpful, and my Apple ID was successfully created. However, this afternoon when I went to download and install some software updates that my trainer saw last week on my screen during our session, I signed in with my Apple ID but it wouldn't let me install the updates. So I had a neighbor come over and help me. I turned off Voiceover since he is fully sighted. He told me that the website was requesting payment information before I could continue. What I'm wondering is: Has this ever happened to anyone else? I already requested credit card information from the people who handle my finances, but I thought I'd check here as well. Thanks bunches.

If those updates are not purchased on your new apple ID you will I believe you will have to purchase the apps which are essentially the updates, if I remember correctly. Someoen correct me if I"m wrong as I have only had 1 apple ID. take care.

Greetings! Every time you connect an apple ID with a new device, you will have to review and reenter some payment information, to verify that this is still you using your account. It should state somewhere on the screen, why it is asking it. Software updates usually don't cost anything, as apple seems to release their new OSx's free. If you don't enter the information, you unfortunately are unable to download anything from th the mac appstore as well as get software updates. I can't tell you exactly where it does tell that information, as I connected my mac to this ID over 1,5 years ago and I really don't remember:)

I think this was a new apple Id for the person that he set up, so if that is the case they will have to pay for the stuff, if it is not then ignore what I just said. Take care and be blessed.

Thanks everyone for your replies. My parents--who are the ones currently handling my finances--are going out of town and coming back next week, so this issue will have to be put on the back burner for the time being. I guess as long as my Mac still runs smoothly without these updates, I'm cool with it.
