Hello, I am having a hard time searching my media library in iTunes using snow leopard. when I do a search, using command option F, it will only let me typing one letter. I am a new user, so I very well may be doing something wrong. but I type in one letter, and it sayssomething like showing content starting with for example a. it will not let me if anybody has any ideas, that would be great.

I never used VoiceOver under Snow Leopard, so I don't know how much help I can be. Under both Mavericks and Yosemite, searching the iTunes library works just fine, without the issue you describe.

If you use Quick Nav, you should make sure Quick Nav is turned off by pressing the left and right arrow keys simultaneously. You should do this whenever you do any text editing, since Quick Nav can interfere otherwise.

You might also try just typing more letters and see if they get inserted, even if VoiceOver says other things while you type. I remember having an experience like this somewhere in the past, though I don't recall where.

If only the first letter you type is actually being inserted, try turning off cursor tracking. You can do this by pressing Control-Option-Shift-F3, or VO-Shift-F3. This will ensure that the keyboard focus won't change if VoiceOver focus moves elsewhere, so it should allow to type multiple letters without issues. Just make sure to turn cursor tracking back on by pressing VO-Shift-F3 after typing your search, or else you will have more problems later.

Hopefully something I said will help you. Again, I have no experience with VoiceOver on Snow Leopard, so I am not aware of the issues VoiceOver may have had at the time.

I went to the Apple store, and found out that this problem does not exist in more modern versions of the Mac. so I'll deal with it until I get a new computer in a few months.
