Problems reading back Web sites in Chrome & Safari

Hi everyone

My father, who is registered blind, has a MacBook from around 2011. It was working OK but then he started having issues accessing Amazon when using Safari. This first affected books and what would happen is that a sponsered advert would appear and he couldn't out of it.

Chrome wasn't any use as it was too out of date and couldn't be updated, the Macbook being so old.

I suggested he get a new MacBook and use Chrome.

However, having purchased a Macbook Air, my father is now having intermittant problems in Chrome.

Sometimes instead of reading each section as he uses the arrow keys to navigate through, it reads every letter.

I am testing it all out to see if I can find a solution to this. I am not registered blind but I am dyslexic so I am use to having my own work read back to me,

With Amazon, I am finding that when a page loads the first thing that appears is a box with skip to and various shortcuts, which can spoken first, where as my father wants the web page details and not this.

That is useful for someone new but not everytime. I don't know if this can be turned off.

I had tried to arrange a support session with Apple at their store in Kingston-upon-Thames, but they only help with hardware issues and not Acessability issues. I need to ring them up.

I was considering recording my screen when it occurs as evidence.

Does anyone have any suggestions or are others experiencing the same issues? The Macbook Air wasn't cheap so I need to try and get this working for my father.

My father is currently using the old Macbook as that is working the best in Safari for now. However, Google no longer supports that version of Mail for GMail acounts.

Thanks for reading.

I don’t know the number for where you are. But I’m sure you can do a quick web search and find it. They will help you specifically with your accessibility issues.

VO+q for single QuickNav
Left+Right arrows for Arrow QuickNav
these sould be on if you want to navigate effectively.
Use special navigation keys to skip redundant content on web pages, like H for headings, L for links, B for buttons and so on.

I recently informed on this list about accessibility improvements on amazon and it still continues.
I use vo + left right arrows to go through sections and single key navigation rocks.
