Hi,
I hope this email finds you well, I'm wondering if anyone could please tell me how to do a search for a particular section or word in a file that's open in Text Edit.
I've tried VO F and Command F and I can't work it out.
Would someone also please explain to me how to move between next and previous search results when I've found something? I'm so sorry for asking relatively basic questions, as stated previously, I've only just got this Mac and I'm very new to it.

In TextEdit, you should be able to find text in a document by pressing VO-F, typing the text, and pressing return, at which point VoiceOver focus should be placed at the start of the first match. To jump to the next match, press VO-G, or press VO-Shift-G to find the previous match.

If this isn't working for you, try pressing Command-Up-Arrow to jump to the top of the document, and then performing the search again.
