Question about the new Mac update.

Hello friends, I hope you're all doing well.
First of all, I want to thank everyone who responded to my previous posts and helped me out — I really appreciate your guidance. I also have a quick question: when you reply to my posts, I haven’t found a way to respond to you or even say thank you. Is this feature missing, or am I just not seeing it?
Also, I’m having a hard time navigating this AppleVis forum. I can't easily view the posts I’ve made or check if someone has replied. Every time I try, it takes a long and complicated process. I’d really appreciate it if someone could explain a better way to manage this.
Now, onto my main issue:
Yesterday I updated my MacBook to the latest version, macOS 15.5.1. Since then, I’ve run into a strange problem. When I shut down and then turn the Mac back on, the keyboard doesn’t respond — only the Tab and Return keys work. When I press Return, I hear a different, human-like voice say “Username.”
The only way I can log in is by turning off VoiceOver, typing my password, hitting Return, and then turning VoiceOver back on — only then does it work.
I’m wondering, is this a known issue? Or is there something wrong on my end?
Thanks in advance to all of you!

Based on what you described, this looks like you have filevault enabled. Basically, this.encripts your disk, and you have to enter your username and password in order to unencript your disk each time you restart or shut down. You don't have to disable voiceover in order to enter your username or password.

Apple loves to turn on FileVault automatically. It's understandable if you didn't see it. It's happened to me too.

You can disable file volt by going to system settings>Privacy & Security>FileVault.

If you can't log in to your mac with file vault on, restart your mac, and an unincripted login process will begin.

Here's more info on FileVault with VoiceOver

Let me know if this helps.

> Thank you so much for your helpful answer, Levi Gobin. My problem is completely solved now. I just wanted to ask—how can I reply to you directly on this site? I couldn't find a way to do it, so I just mentioned your name here.

There is currently no way to reply to somebody directly. You can contact somebody using their individual contact form.

If you click on the link that has the person‘s name you wish to contact, you’ll be taken to their profile page.

You should see the contact tab. If not, there might be a button you have to expand labeled as primary tabs.

Contacting somebody sends them an email. They can’t reply back to you, but they can send you an email to follow up. The email that you receive from someone contacting you includes their email address. They can quickly reply back to you from there.
