Recommendation for reading books on Mac?

Hi all,
I reckon many people might have already asked this question and they have been answered extensively by now, but here it is again.
I use VoiceDream reader to read my contents on my iPad and on my phone.
I am currently writing my PhD thesis and have been struggling with long PDFS on preview (though, to tell the truth, preview is more accessible lately with the new OS).
I was wondering whether there are any apps on Mac which provide similar functionality like VoiceDream reader on IOS.
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.
