Hello all,
I have a problem with my mac. I turned it on this morning and it wont boot. It keeps telling me Mac OSX could not be installed. It says something about the os install.mpkg appears to be missing or damaged. What do I do to get my mac back up and running?

Hi Greg. Oh no, that’s a pain. Have you tried booting into recovery mode? Hold down Command+R as you switch on the machine.
Beyond that, I would probably call Apple Support if it were me.

Hello,
I was able to boot up into recovery mode. I am guessing for some reason I am going to have to reinstall the OS? This is going to stink if I have to because I have windows installed on my machine as well. If I reinstall mac os will that affect my Windows partitian?

That I do not know, sorry Greg. Hopefully someone here can answer that one. Is it a boot camp partition or a virtual machine? If the latter then I would imagine it will be lost. If the former, I do not know.

I'm assuming that windows in a boot camp partition. I don't think your windows will be lost if doing a clean install of MacOs thru the recovery. I don't actually know as I will not run windows on a mac, period. Like i said, you might be able to keep the windows partition on your mac, but I am not exactly sure. You're probably gonna have to do a complete reinstall of the MacOS operating system, sorry I can't be of much help.

My understanding is that if it is a bootcamp partition, unless you erase that partition in Disk Utility and reformat your entire disk, it should be unaffected in a standard clean install of macOS.

Well how I solved this is wierd. I ran a repair on on the drive it was teling me there was a problem. It took only a few seconds and came back saying there was no issues found. When I exited out of recovery mode I noticed there was a button that allows you to select which drive is used during boot up. I selected this button and made sure Mac OS was selected and hit the restart button. Whola when it restarted it was fine. It looks as if my machine got a bit mixe up on what drive it was to use when booting up.
