Last night I have 7.39gb of space on my Mac, then later on that night I had 7.21. Not that bad if you're just talking about that alone. However I have nothing open that should be eating my space, nothing downloading, nothing no one's putting anything in my Dropbox, so that's out. I don't have any spyware, according to malware bytes. Any other ideas of what could be eating my space? Thanks!

background services
You may not think you have stuff open that could be causing this, but any operating system is doing things in the background that may cause new data to be written to the hard drive. Background services used to sync with iCloud or check for updates may be writing to the system logs, OS X could be collecting diagnostic information, or perhaps a contact/Email/Some other sync is in progress and generating temporary files.

Not to be argumentative, and though I agree and concur with your sentiment, I'll have to say that my space is decreasing faster than what it would for the things that you'd mentioned to be taking place. It even went so far as to have my startup disk being full. also, it didn't give back space, only took it, which lead me !o believe something's eating my space. This happened to me in Windows, but I found the culprit for it. Not so with the Mac.

Also, mail is not open, so no mail sync is in progress. :)
