Volume in iMovie

Can anyone advise an accessible way to adjust the volume of a clip in iMovie? I am able to interact with the audio volume slider and hit Vo Right arrow to increase the volume, but there are two issues. First, I cannot use VO left arrow to reduce the volume, for no discernible reason. Second, adjusting this way adjusts in very large chunks. Is there a way to adjust in more detail, either in small increments or by manually entering the volume value? And is there a way to turn the audio level down with VO? Thanks in advance to all you iMovie pros for your help!
