Youtube website on Safari vs Chrome

Hi everybody

I’ve realized this—and I’m sure you have too: the YouTube website is way faster on Chrome compared to Safari when it comes to pausing the video, fast forwarding/rewinding, etc. Try using the keyboard shortcuts: K to pause/play, arrow keys or L and J to jump forward/backward in the video, etc. So, I want to use Chrome for YouTube.

But here comes another problem: if I have a few tabs open on chrome and I’m navigating between video suggestions using the headings rotor, after a while VoiceOver starts lagging. At some point, I hear “Chrome not responding” for a second, then it comes back—and the whole thing repeats over and over.

Safari feels super fast for VO navigation but slow on video controls, while Chrome is the opposite—great on video controls but sluggish with VO navigation. When I use Safari for navigation, it’s blazingly fast with zero lag. I’m on an Apple Silicon device, and a sighted person confirmed there’s no lag on their end, so this is definitely a VoiceOver issue.

What can I do? This whole “not responding” thing has been around since I started using a Mac, but it feels worse since the 15.4 update. What do you suggest? I try to do everything fast on my computer—that’s just who I am—so I can’t stand the lag.
