Your HDMI cable doesn't go into your sound bar.

Hi!

Your HDMI cable doesn't go in to your sound bar. Just the opticle cable goes in to that. The HDMI goes in to your tv. So here's how the hook up's should look.
1. Make sure that the HDMI cable goes from the Apple TV in to one of the HDMI ports of your flat screen tv.
Then, the optical cable needs to go from one part of the sound bar, into the optical slot on the tv. That should then work.

Are you using a switch box? I have never heard of anyone doing this without a tv involved. Can you give more of a description so that I may help?

Hi, I had purchased a sound bar that has HDMI port. I have HDMI cable that connects to Apple TV, and another side connected to the sound bar. Wen i connect to the TV screen it works well. it happands to me only wen aApple TV has connected to the sound bar.

You still need the opticle cable

You still need to hook up an opticle cable to your tv and sound bar. Depending on how many HDMI signals your tv puts out, in other words, inputs, you put the HDMI cable in to one of those on your tv. But, your saying you have no flat screen. What kind of tv do you have and is it a flat screen tv or just a regular tv with AV jacks on the front or back? Also, what is the model of the JBL sound bar?

If you have a 3rd generation

Hi!

If you have a 3rd generation Apple tv, you will need to use the opticle cable output for audio. If this is a fourth gen apple tv, you can use HDMI to HDMI. However, your JBL speaker might need a firmware update in order for this to work correctly.
