so I am setting up a Windows laptop for a friend and we have come across a problem. NVDA, JAWS and Narrator announce that the item is checked affter each item name, so for example I open the downloads folder and each item name is followed by the word checked. This is not a touch screen device and I have made sure that the Item check boxes in the View menu is unchecked. Any idea what might be causing this? This is a Windows 11 laptop with no touch screen and it has all the latest updates.
Thanks all for any help.

Hi Maldalain,

If there is a quicker way of doing this, I do not know of it. Having said that, follow these steps.
1. Press Windows key plus 'e' to open File Explorer.
2. Press Alt to get to the ribbons, etc and then tab over to more options, press enter or space here.
3. Arrow down to Options, press Enter.
4. A dialogue will appear with some choices. Press Shift plus Tab to get to the "View" tab.
5. Tab over until you get to an Advanced settings, tree view.
6. Here you want to Arrow down until something like the 19th item, it will be labeled as, "Use check boxes to select items", make sure it is not selected. This will be near the bottom of the tree view, just fyi.
7. Apply and reboot your PC.

You should be good from here. 😊
