Hi,
I ran into a little trouble yesterday morning. The Cisco Network Engineering program I was in last year hosted a graduation event for our class, but I could not for the life of me connect. I eventually was able to get in via the iOS version of Zoom, but the PC version repeatedly glitched out on me each time I would click on the Zoom link from Outlook.
Just wondering if anyone else has had any problems recently connecting with Zoom for PC, and if so were you able to get it sorted out aside from using an alternative application?
Thanks in advance. 🙂

Ahh now the trap
Hi Brian,
Last week at work had this exact situation. Was sent a link which opened no problem. Then the fun started. As this eventually worked and took about 15 minutes can't exactly remember how I sorted it. However, the two things I do recall is if you scroll the page you get an open type link that does absolutely nothing. Seemed strange! then you have a download the zoom workplace app. Don't do that no idea what that is for but just ignore. Further down I think if you let the text woffle on and some point it says something llike open in web page. That is what you need and that although not obvious then allows you to use the mic and video etc and a connect option. Worked fine once opened but it is very odd to use. As I say look for the web part and ignore the obvious ways of opening as they simply don't work.
I see
Yeah, that's not frustrating at all... 🤦♂️
Zoom WorkPlace annoyances
Hey Brian. This happened to me a few weeks back, because I went and changed default settings on my audio devices. If you go under control panel, sounds, recording tab and then the microphone that you normally use. Go to advanced and restore defaults. Do the same for your playback device. Try a zoom meeting again and it should work just fine. It's stupid, but Zoom will not allow you to change anything, otherwise it just constantly crashes like that. Took me a while to figure that one out and it's not written anywhere, until now I guess. lol!
Thanks
Hi Martin,
Thanks for the tip. I will give that a try, and report back here the next time I am on Zoom, probably won't be until sometime next week, but I will let you all know how it goes. 😃
Simple Programs
What ever happened to having nice and simple to use programs? It seems that, so often when a new program comes out, it is simple and easy to use. As time goes on, however, the developer starts to add more and more features, settings, and "cool" things. Eventually the program becomes so complex that you can can't figure out how to find actions that were easy to get to before and a million other settings have changed.
Skype used to be pretty simple to use, as was Zoom when it first came out. Now I find myself tabbing all over the screen just to figure out how it is configured or find the setting I need.
I guess that is progress!

Re: Simple programs
Same over here, frustration was big when trying to join a Zoom--and later Teams--meeting a couple of days ago. The gentlemen could see me all right but not hear me at all. My microphone was supposedly turned on, but nada. They canceled our meeting and asked for a new appointment.
My sighted committee member and I later played around with my PC's microphone and got it going again. How and when the suppposedly active microphone got turned off, I can't tell. So, theoretically, I could participate in meetings on Zoom and Teams, but I'd rather have more immediate control of my microphone, etc., than having someone far away say: "Oh, Ma'am, I'm sorry I can't hear you."
As for a simple program, I really like BBB (BigBlueButton), which lets you test audio and microphone settings before you join a meeting. It is also very easy to navigate using NVDA. (I can't speak for JAWS as I don't use it. Maybe someone else can tell or test it.)
My apologies for the long post filled with griping.
Zoom
I used Zoom on Sunday and had no problems at all. Is there actually an app called Zoom for workplace? I'm just using the regular Zoom app, didn't know there was another one. Incidentally, are people using the new Outlook to open Zoom Links or the classic Outlook? For years now Windows Mail and now the New Outlook has this thing where links are protected, and sometimes I've opened stuff like account verification links and it's caused problems, pages come up with errors. No other mail client has ever caused problems like this. The most important stuff I usually get sent to my gmail where I'm using the classic Outlook 365 and get no issues with meeting links or any other links. Apparently you can go to Outlook.com and turn this safelinks thing off, presumably that'll work for the new Outlook client for Windows too. I don't even know if this has anything to do with it, but my Zoom was working fine last Sunday. People sent me those meeting links through WhatsApp, and as they're regular meetings with the same link, those links have been working for over a year with no problems. I just saved them on my computer as various shortcuts, and they've been working fine. Edit to say just reread this thread again, and it probably has nothing to do with whether the links are protected or not since you can get to the page, you just have to mess about once you're there.
Workplace
Hi Tara,
According to zoom.us, Zoom Workplace has basically replaced zoom. Not sure if this is true for UK or other regional users. I did not know about the safe link thing with Outlook, so thank you for that tip. I will give that a try, and see if that gives me a better experience.
I do use the new Outlook, not so great with the older Outlook, since I was using Windows Mail prior to the new Outlook, and before that was on macOS for a decade or so.
I missed the old Zoom app. It was one of those rare gems, that worked really well, on both windows and macOS.
when loading zoom - avoiding their callendar?
So I open it up in windows.
I go to the meetings tab.
I no longer have access to the list of my meetings, it takes me to a callendar which i can read with virtual pc cursor, but for the life of me, I can not find my meetings list, like I do on my iphone. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: when loading zoom - avoiding their callendar?
Your guess is as good as mine. With this new Zoom app, the new layout is a bit confusing.
I wonder if there is a way to get back the old Zoom application? 🤔
