thanks
thank you for this great podcast review about this recording app, I've looking long time before such a pretty good recorder for my iPhone7, but my question is, can it do send the recorded audio file to other cloud storage like Dropbox, one drive or Mega? other than iCloud?
again thanks
by the way...
sorry I forgot to ask this, is the resume to record are also possible?
Question about Transcriptions
The description on the App Store says:
"• Transcriptions are stored within the audio file."
I don't understand this. Is it possible to see the transcriptions in a text editor? Are the transcriptions somehow done in the cloud (I didn't think the phone would have that much computing power). Will the appp make transcriptions for other audio files?

Answers for taichong
Hello taichong,
Great questions!
Can you send the audio file to other cloud storage?
As you probably heard in the podcast you can only store the actual audio files directly to the phone or to Apple iCloud. Meaning, that when the recording is done. It will either automatically store that audio file on to your device or to Apple iCloud directly. However, once the recording has been made. You can then go to that audio and share it with the other cloud storage. For example, you can copy the audio file directly to Dropbox, OneDrive, and other cloud storage. Essentially transferring that audio file to the other cloud storage of your choice.
So technically a yes to your question if you can save those audio files to Dropbox, OneDrive, and other Cloud storage.
The other question you asked is there an option to pause and resume your recording?
Yes, you can pause and resume your recording.
Once you start the recording you will find the Stop button directly above the Home button. Just to the left of the Stop button is the Pause and Resume.
Thanks for the kind word.

Answer for Pete
Hello Pete,
Is the transcription embedded in the audio file?
Yes. As strange this may sound they have made a way to embed the transcription with in the audio file itself. Meanwhile, even with that transcription with in that file. The audio file will play on any audio player that supports m4a, aac, aiff, and wav with no problem. They made it this way so that when you ever want to move that file back in to the app again. It will automatically see this was done by Just Press Record and extract the transcription for the file. This is simply their own proprietary format they developed for their app.
Can you take that transcription and use it to edit?
Yes. When you finish on an audio recording. Simply double tap on that recording in the app. Find the Share button and double tap on that. From here you are presented several options. One of those option is to share the transcription. This will now offer the many various ways to send or share that transcription. So, if you like to send that to the native Notes app. You can do that. If you rather send the transcription to Dropbox. You can do that as well. The nice part about that is that it will store it as a text file. You can even just simply copy it to the clipboard to paste it anywhere you want on your phone.
Is the transcription done in the cloud?
Yes, you will need a good wi-fi connection or an access to the internet if you want the audio file to be transcribe. All files and transcription are removed on the transcription server after the transcription is completed.
Will the app make transcription for other audio files?
Yes, but only in certain formats. It will only support m4a. aac, aiff, and wav now. It will not work with any other format like the mp3. You can simply say go in to the native Voice Memo and Share that audio file to Just Press Record. You can do this as well for going in to Dropbox and share an audio file to Just Press Record. There are many various ways but as long you can share the file and send it to the Just Press Record. It will work.

Couple of questions
Great review! As a barrister here in the UK I can see this has the potential significantly to reduce the need for notetaking! just a couple of questions:
1. I'm a little confused about pausing and resuming recording. I thought that in the podcast you said during the podcast that once you start recording, Voiceover disappears until you stop. Does that mean that in order to pause and resume you've got to be absolutely sure where the pause button is as you won't have Voiceover to help you?
2. If transcription is in progress and you wander out of range of your wireless network, does it have the ability to resume when you're back in range, a bit like a restore from iCloud process does? I ask this because I envisage perhaps having to transcribe fairly lengthy materials at times.
3. If one sets autotranscribe to 'never' I assume that with a recording open there is some sort of option to transcribe on demand?
4. Does the app support UK English?
Sorry that's more than a couple of questions! Great review and thanks once again.
Just answered a couple of my own questions
Taken the plunge and bought this app. it does indeed support UK English and if you set it to never transcribe (I am of a mind to do this so as to be sure transcription takes place when I'm in range of a decent wireless network when transcription's going on) a transcribe button does appear. but I do have an additional question: is it possible to share voice memos from the voice memos app? I haven't actually seen Just Press Record come up as an option when I've pressed the share button when playing a voice memo.
Complication
I finally got the app and I love it. It is awesome. The problem I am having though is that I don’t know when it’s recording when I have clicked the complication. This is a minor problem, however, and I will use this app for all my recording needs, such as my audio diary wich I used TinyMic for earlier. This is much more reliable and deffinitely worth the price. It is really relyable. And I love the transcription feature, and guess what? It supports Swedish! That was unexpected until I actually looked for the app store description and saw that everything was in clear, flawless swedish. And the translation is awesome. Thanks for a brilliant podcast and a wonderful recomendation.
Thanks and a question about deleting files
Hi Thomas, and thanks for another great podcast about a fine app! :)
I work as a musician and I also record my own material every now and then. Of course this app as you clearly stated wont be able to record in high enough quality that I can use it back in my studio when mixing my songs, but I've been looking for an app to quickly catch my spontanious musical ideas on tape without spending too much time on just getting the recording started, and this one is just what I need, so I of course went ahead and bought the app right away! :)
I also have a 3 year old boy, and another arriving in january, and this will be a great app to quickly capture moments with my kids while they are small! :) Filming videos is of course not my strong side, so this might be my way of contributing to our memories of our childs first years, I hope, so thanks again for giving me this oportunity with this great app!
And so on to my question about deleting files. I haven't found any fast way of deleting multiple files when I've messed around a bit and have lots of recordings that needs to be trashed. The only way of deleting a file from what I can tell, is to open the actual file and hit the delete button when the file is open. Do you know of any easier way of getting rid of many files in fewer steps?
I also have this as a complication on my watch, and this is where the app really shines, when wanting to capture something really fast! As a complication on my watch face, I am always just a couple of taps on my wrist away from starting a new recording. But this can have a downside as well, because there might be several false alarms before a moment that really needs to be captured occures, and this offen results in lots of small files that needs to be trashed after a while. So an easier way of deleting files would be awesome if it existed!
When mentioning the watch app and it's complication, I have a small additional comment, especially if you are in contact with the devs, or if they may be reading this forum. On the complication, VO says "double tap this button to start recording", or something like that. I don't have my watch on right now to double check the VO label. But when the button has been double tapped, the same message is repeated, causing this message to always be heard at the beginning of each recording made from the watch. I don't know if the repeating of the label of the last button pressed is a VO thing on the watch, but I believe it is. In that case, a much shorter label on this button would make it at least better, if not perfect. If this button e.g. just said "record", that would maybe only cause the last of the word record to be captured at the beginning of a recording.
Anyway, thank you again for sharing this great app! I'm sure it will be of great use for me in time to come, both on my watch and on the phone! :)
Recording and quality
Hi al, I'd like to know whether one can record anything while the screen is locked by doubletapping with two fingers. Another question concerns quality: is it the same as with the native recorder app? And, can I cut recordings into pieces? Thanks in advance for your answers.
deleteing files using just press record on the watch
Good day. I have the app and love it. What I can't figure out is how to delete a single file on the watch. Wehn in the recent recordings I press on a recording but just see delete all. Can a single file be deleted from the watch? Thanks.
Quality and cutting
You cannot trim or cut in the app but you can export this to an other app like Hokusai 2. Or some other app and cut it there. That is what I do. The quality is awesome.
Storing the file on iPhone
I have the app set to store the actual file on the iPhone and wonder if this means that it will only be stored on my watch if I record it. I would like to now so I don’t erase something by accident. Is the apple watch app bigger?
Easier Deletion Possible?
Hello Cliff,
Firstly, congratulations on your new baby coming up in January! That is wonderful news and many wishes for a healthy baby for you and your wife!
Thanks for the kinds words on the podcast. I am glad that I could help people and most of all offer something that others might find useful!
To answer your question if there is a better way to delete memos on the app. As far that I can tell there is not. As you say it is rather a pain in having to open each memo up and to delete it. I was unable to find any other method like swiping up, 3D touch, or double tap and hold and performing different swiping. Nothing seems to work. My suggestion would to be is to get a hold of the developer and request that feature!
Good Luck!
Answer to Bingo Little
Hello Bingo Little,
Thanks for the kind words on the podcast. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
1. Yes, you can still hear VoiceOver, but you will only hear VoiceOver in the earpiece. So, it will be very quiet so when you tap on the Stop Recording and do a swipe left to the Pause Recording. You should hear this. It will depend on the volume that you have but you should slightly hear that being announced. That was a bit confusing on my part. So, my apology for that. What I meant is that you will not hear VoiceOver being spoken out loud as you think it should and trying to make a podcast reviewing an app with VoiceOver would not be advisable or ideal.
2. When I was looking to find an answer for this question I found out something that I am just surprised and stumped. When I turned the Airplane Mode to ON. This completely disconnect everything from Cellular and Wireless from the equation However, it was still able to transcribe my recording. I'm not sure how that is possible and unfortunately unsure how to answer this question. I would think you can as mention below that one can Transcribe at any point if there is not a transcription for the Memo.
3. Yes, if you set the Auto Transcription to Never. You can have any memo to be transcribe at a later point. Those memos that don't have a transcription you find a Transcribe button. Just double tap on this and it will transcribe the memo for you.
4. Yes, the app does support UK English.

Importing
I heard somewhere that it is possible to import audio for transcription but I have no clue if it is possible or how to actually do it.
Another question and an answer for my own question
It is actually possible to use the app to transcribe other audio. I am thinking of switching to iCloud but the thing is that I don’t think I can actualy transfer the old recordings because it would be very fiddly so I honestly keep it this way. I prefer it that way.
Answers for Rafal
Hello Rafal,
You ask if the recording will work when the screen is locked. Yes, it will keep recording when the screen is locked. Is the audio quality the same as you get with the native Voice Memo. Technically you can set Just Press Record to the same level but also can improve and record at a higher rate with the Just Press Record that you can't do with the native Voice Memo. Lastly, can you cut the recording in to pieces with the Just Press Record. No, you can't. There are no editing features of any kind in the Just Press Record. You will have to do that with another app or on your computer with some audio program to do that.

How can I deal with ...
Hello. Thanks Anonymous for your fruitful answers. I have some others: 1. Is it possible to start recording when the screen is awake but not unlocked? I know I can swype to page one and find the widget. Also in what way can I pause the recording. Bear in mind that in some situations I want to be as discrete as possible and I don't have an AppleWatch, only iPhone Se. I know but by awaking screen I can perform the doubletap gesture wich stops the recording process and pressing it once again creates another file. In some situations, I want to record something, then ommit irrelevant parts and go back to the recording e.g. during lectures or meetings. Is there a manual for this app? I know this is not very complicated but a text manual would be appreciated. Cheers, Rafal

Transcription
How did you manage to transcribe with aairplane mode on? Maybe you had wifi on? That doesn’t make sence to me but I will play with that and see if it actually does that. I think transcription is really great. I think this is good for many things. I record my audio diary on this app. Though I have a question. I am not using iCloud. I record on my watch. When the files have synced from my watch to my phone I delete the files on my watch. On the watch they take a lot of space but not on my iPhone. I cannot see how this makes sence. I am going to turn on airplane mode for these two things.
Wow
Wow. Believe it or not, the files ARE on my phone. I just turned off airplane mode and it worked and also I made sure that it was actually on. This is amazing! This app is even better than I thought it was to start with. And the quality is awesome. I use this app for recording a diary, recording notes and jam sessions with my friends. I have played around with this app quite a lot. I have two other apps, Aurora Recorder and TinyMik. But I prefer this app. It isn’t expencive, for all that the app actually does and how reliable it is. And even better; the app is in clear, flawless swedish and dictation works perfectly in swedish. Also it’s very easy to use. Not a lot of fiddly stuff that use to frustrate me quite a lot. And since it records in the background now I can easily record jam sessions, either alone or with friends. It takes in music very clearly. The only problem, though it is incredibly small, is that when recording from the complication I cannot know if it is actually recording. I use hokusai to edit the recordings if there is a jam session I want to keep but I also have the original files on my iCloud. Also you ca share to everything. For example Dropbox. I use dropbox and google drive a lot and this is why I am glad that you can share there. I love that there are NO in app purchases because you pay ONCE and then you have the entire thing. That was what I hated with some of the recordings, and I am not talking about Aurora or TinyMik but I am talking about others. But how you manages to actually transcribe with airplane mode on is a mystery to me. I tried that and I couldn’t do it. This was very strange and did not make sence to me at all. I am going to play around with that but I do believe this app cannot transcribe without network connection. I would like to make a podcast about using this app on the watch, but the problem is that my app is in swedish and I doubt you would be able to actually understand it and no way I am changing my watch to english just to be able to make a podcast. There is allready a podcast but it is kind of outdaated. Your podcast is awesome, Thomas. I just wanted to make one on the new features on the watch. But it is not going to happen anytime soon. I like too record on the go. If I find any lyrics that pop up in my head toghether with a new melody and I need to actually record this just to remember it until I can write it. The app even took in the voice of my staff in the kitchen when I was in the next room. We were talking to each other and I listened back to hear. Sorry for a long post.
Importing audio
Hi guys. Have any of you figured out how to import audio from Other apps? I’ve had no success?
Importing Audios
Hey Diana,
The only way I've found to make this work is to retrieve the file from the iCloud. Though, the tutorial says one can import from other apps. I've yet to find a way to do this and which app will allow me to do this. The tutorial specially mentions Voice Memo but I've yet to have success with importing it from there. It's a bit tricky as you must place the file you want to import in to the actual Just Press Record folder that is created with in your iCloud. In short it isn't that simple, and it takes a bit of work just to make that happen.
If someone else have found an easier way. I would love to know how and what you did to accomplish what should be an easier task than what I have found.
HTH
sounds very tedious.
Thank you so much for your helP AnonyMouse. Sounds like a lot of hard work. Yes in the tutorial they do mention voice memos. It’s strange that they haven’t made it easy. If anyone else has foun an easier way please let us know
playing recordings when the watch goes to sleep
Good day. i have found that when playing a recording unlike recording in the background you can't play in the background. When the watch sleeps the playback pauses. Is there a setting to change this? I ddin't see one but perhaps I missed it? Thanks.
Talked with the developer about the comment above mine.
Hi there, I talked with the developer on Twitter about the comment as to why the watch app is unable to play recordings in the background. I’m waiting on a response. But as soon as I get one, I’ll let you all know. I definitely enjoy this app as well very much!
Response from the developer on twitter.
Hi all. I got a response about why the app doesn't play in the background. Here is it.
Audio playback while the screen is off is controlled by watchOS. Hopefully these limitations will be relaxed in the future as we would love to offer background audio playback.
I hope this answers your question. It did for me. I do hope that Apple will allow audio playback in the background soon. It would be nice.
Resending recordings
I just figured out how to resend the recordings from apple watch using voicover. In the FAQ it says to turn the crown on the recording but for VoiceOver, just open the recording and then force press. There will be two items. Delete recording and resend recording. Also, this fixes the thing with being able to actually delete one recording without having to delete all.
Storage
I have a stupid question.
If I have all the recordings on iCloud Drive, will they still take up space on my iPhone?
