In this podcast, Thomas Domville introduces us to Seeing AI, a free iOS app that narrates the world around you. Designed for the blind and low vision community, this ongoing research project harnesses the power of AI to open up the visual world and describe nearby people, text and objects.
Optimized for use with VoiceOver, the app enables you to recognize:
Short Text - Speaks text as soon as it appears in front of the camera, Documents - Provides audio guidance to capture a printed page, and recognizes the text, along with its original formatting, Products - Scans barcodes, using audio beeps to guide you; hear the name, and package information when available. (works with iPhone 6 and later), People - Saves people’s faces so you can recognize them, and get an estimate of their age, gender, and emotions, Scenes (early preview) - Hear an overall description of the scene captured, Currency - Recognizes currency notes, Color - Identifies color, Handwriting - Reads handwritten text, Light - Generates an audible tone corresponding to the brightness in the surroundings, and Images in other apps - Just tap “Share” and “Recognize with Seeing AI” to describe images from Mail, Photos, Twitter, and more.

Awesome
I actually got it as soon as I found out that this app is in Sweden. It is awesome. I use it in a lot of ways. I can even read the bar codes on my yarns. I love yarn.
Not available in China, but
Well, with my friend's US Apple ID, I was able to get the app in China. I guess the reason why it's not yet available is because it can't read Chinese. But I'm loving the fact that I can now quickly know which CD I'm getting, and I can even read the information on the CD box, ETC. It's the perfect Christmas gift for me!!! And thanks for the podcast, really helpful.
Great podcast
Seeing AI is a great App.
I love it so much.
Can you please do a podcast on KNFB reader?
Thank you for making this podcast on Seeing AI the podcast is really good.

how rude
While I do not ask for much, I am very angry at the fact that my podcast on this subject, is no longer here. While I did not get a lot of reviews, the reviews I did get were very positive. Thank you apple vis, for putting up my podcast on this very ap, and then removing it.
still not available dont know why!
the app still not available in Malaysia. I don't know why, I'm waiting for it.
Darrel
I'm sorry that happened but maybe you could've used the contact form to ask about it maybe they took it down because the ap got some updates which probably needed another podcast. Other than that, I will be sending them a suggestion to add my country's currency.
Also, not available in China
I got the app using a friend's American account, but I really hope that one day I can use the app in China.
Nice Walkthrough
I probably should've listened to it before downloading the app, but I was in kinda a hurry. But thanks for doing such a nice job. This is an amazing app. I was able to do a couple things with it thus far, but will definitely keep it on my iPhone. I just sent Microsoft some feedback. Don't have email set up on my Iphone at least for now, so I clicked "Feedback", and then emailed them from my Mac.
Using this app a lot
My favorites are the short text and colour. It lets me read things in print on things. The colour I use to determine the colour of yarn. I just hold it to the yarn and it is very acurate in my opinion. of course not multi colour.
Best app
Only issue is battery use. They need to look into it.
