On iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple has replaced the ‘notch’ that's been a feature of Face ID-equipped iPhones since the iPhone X with what it calls the Dynamic Island. The Dynamic Island is a small area of display pixels surrounding the pill-shaped cutout. It appears whenever your iPhone is unlocked, and changes size and shape to accommodate various types of alerts, notifications, and interactions such as music that’s playing, your timer, an AirDrop connection, and directions from Maps.
In this podcast, Thomas Domville shows us how VoiceOver users locate the Dynamic Island and its contents.

I'm not getting that option.
Mine are going straight to deleted messages. Is anyone else having that problem? I don't wantto restart in case I'm one of those people whose Voiceover won't come up without a passcode.
Dynamic Island
Thank you for this concise and excellent explanation. Having just upgraded to an iPhone 16 with iOS 18, I was wondering what this dynamic island was all about. I can see it being extremely useful. I did notice though in the podcast that Thomas referred to people having possibly different items on their status bar. Can you change what appears there like you can the dock? If so, that would also be excellent. Thanks.
I've had a phone with the dynamic island for two weeks...
and it's been very useful. So far all I've seen is the timer, and I'm finding that doing the home gesture doesn't always work to shut it off. There's no consistency about this, so I haven't been able to figure out exactly where the dismiss button is on the screen. I have some loud alarms and that can make things interesting. I've listened to this podcast since I got this phone but I could use a review.
You can't change the status bar
Subject line explains it. The dock is the only place wherein you can change things to fit your needs. I still miss the messages being top left, not sure why they put it down below, but i just deal. It's not exactly a huge issue just a whim.
