Description of App

Earl™ lets you use your voice to open a newspaper and have it read to you. "When I lost my sight, I kind of gave up. Earl has restored my confidence and faith in living," (Earl Barlow). We built Earl™ for him, so that he and others like him could read the news again and re-connect with the world. We named it "Earl" so we would remember why.

Just double-tap your screen, speak a few straightforward commands and Earl will read articles you select from 250 plus newspapers from around the world, without ever having to see the screen. From national news sources to your local newspaper, Earl makes the latest news accessible to you, anytime, anywhere. All you need is an iPhone®, iPad® or iPod Touch®, an Internet connection and a desire to keep up on what's happening in your community and around the world. Earl is uncomplicated, accessible without or with VoiceOver® and just plain fun to use.

Once you've purchased and installed Earl on your device, you'll have control of Earl's features. You'll be able to read up to three articles a day that you select from our list of 250 plus newspapers and news sites from around the world. When you upgrade and purchase a monthly or yearly subscription to our Earl service, you'll have unlimited access to all of Earl's features and news content. You'll be able to read as many articles as you want every day.

You can get Earl for just $0.99. Using in-app purchase, you can subscribe to our service by the month for $9.99 with monthly renewals, or subscribe to Earl for a full year for $99.99 and enjoy 12 months of our full service for the price of 10 months and only have to renew once a year. Payment will be charged to your iTunes® account upon confirmation of the subscription. Cancellation of the current monthly subscription or current yearly subscription is not allowed during the active subscription period.

Earl is powered by iSpeech.

#1 Earl reading app

Submitted by Maria Georgakarakou on 24 February, 2013 - 14:49.

Lovely app. Has anyone tried it? It reads all the newspapers using its own TTS and is really accessible. No Greek papers yet but Greeks are famous for their patience, are we not?
Congratulations to whoever made this little miracle possible.

Hi Maria;
I am the Content Manager for Earl and I placed the Kathimerini in our library. Greek newspapers in English are hard to come by. If you need anything else please contact support at support@earlspeech.com

#3 Seriously folks, give these guys your support if you can afford

Submitted by James Jolley on 11 April, 2013 - 22:02.

The app is superb. What's even better though is the technical support. I am from the UK and these guys actually bothered to call me on numerous occasions to assist me. I don't know what's bigger news, Earl reading papers or a company really going out of there way to assist visually impaired people like this. Truly best-in-class service and it is a unique one in many respects. Yes, we could go to websites and mess about, but there is something really quite nice about sitting down with a paper and selecting articles from a list via voice. Relaxing and superb. 10/10 for this company.

Hey you never know. It might read the greek papers once they are added, if they can do it, but I don't know if they have a greek tts voice that will do that. Maybe ask the devs. and good luck.
