#1 Let us know what you think of Fleksy
We know that there has been great anticipation about the release of this app, so now that it has finally hit the App Store, we would love to hear your thoughts.
Does the app live up to expectations? The developers already have a number of improvements planned, but what are the features or changes that you would like to see?
Post a comment to let us know your thoughts on Fleksy.
#2 Nice, but not worth the price.
Hello,
I have some thoughts and a question. I think fleksy would be a nice app to have, but the price is totally outrageous. I just don't see why somebody would pay so much for that app. Also, if you had vo off, would people be able to see what you type?
#3 Check out the podcast
Katie,
You might want to listen to the podcast that David Woodbridge recorded in which he demonstrates a pre-release version of this app.
It should answer most of your questions.
As for the price, I would be very interested to know what you think would be a fair and realistic price for the developers to charge for an app that has clearly taken significant time and work. Don't judge the price by comparing it against apps that can be written in a day or sell by the millions.
#4 Erm...
This is the most expensive app I've ever bought. I don't want to rush to judgement, but it doesn't seem as easy as it did on the podcast.
I have tried over and over, but I can't get it to recognise the word "rock!"
#5 My thoughts about the price
I've seen this tendency with a lot of companies, where apps specificaly for Blind people get their price bumped up to waaaay high levels to account for lower volume. My thoughts? This really must stop and I find this rather sad.
I'd pay, maybe up to $5, not more.
#6 Covering costs
So how do you suggest companies cover the costs of developing these apps? We have never before had the opportunity to have assistive tools all bundled into one device and not having to buy several one purpose devices each for considereably more than 10 or 20 quid. People can just decide not to purchase any app they find too expensive.
#7 official Fleksy demo July 2012 posted to my feed
Hi all,
I've just posted to:

#8 Fleksy and Their Pricing
I believe Fleksy is well worth the price they are asking. I am a fairly fast typist using just the touch screen. However, if I have a long email or note, I tend to use a keyboard. Not having to cary an extra device with me, makes it well worth the price. I also appreciate how responsive the devs are. They answered a question I had within 5 minutes, and they are already hard at work on the next update. They also offer an SDK that other developers can use to bring Fleksy functionality into their apps. I look forward to the future of Fleksy.
#9 price of fleksy
I bought this app a few hours ago, and like it a lot. At first I wondered if it would really do as advertised, but it worked extrememly well. If anyone has trouble typing something, try to get more precise with your taps. $14 or so isn't that bad, considering bookshare's app, which I also have.
#10 Released too soon, perhaps?
So I've hopped on board and purchased Fleksy. At the moment, the only thought I can contribute to the price debate is to say that the £10.49 UK price tag was just over twice what would've felt ok to me. I sucked it up out of curiosity, but I've been the only person out of my circle of friends so far who's willing to do that. That's noteworthy IMHO because the VI people I have told about it were intrigued, but seemed to put it on their list of apps they'd perhaps try with an iTunes gift card they've been given or the like once the price came up. Based on use of the app so far, while I wouldn't say this is a textbook case of inflated assistive technology pricing, I wouldn't say it does much to break the mold either. I say that as someone who doesn't have any other apps specifically aimed at VI users installed though, so I'm fully prepared to eat my words in a couple days time when this thing turns out to be a game changer LOL.
The app store description does make me wonder whether this was released too soon. I can imagine a few potential reasons or arguments in favour of getting this out in to the wild sooner rather than later, but paying in advance for mostly unspecified features in future releases was a big part of why it was a struggle to take the plunge and buy this at just over a tenner here.
#11 I really liked the idea of
I really liked the idea of Fleksy and was going to buy it...until I realized that I can't use it in other apps. My main idea for using it was for texting...but the idea of going into Fleksy and then exporting the text, if you will, to a message seems too cumbersome and, for me at least, defeats the purpose.
This is, of course, no fault of the developers. Fleksy sounds like one heck of an app with tremendous potential. I hope Apple and the Fleksy developers can work together to integrate this app natively into iOS.
Again, I have not tried Fleksy, mainly because I have reservations about spending $15 for an app that doesn't meet my needs. When the price comes down or the features/integration improves, I'll give it another look.
#12 UK being ripped off again
It looks like those of us in the UK are paying almost twice as much as our American friends.
I've had the app all day and to be honest, it's a lot more fiddling about than I can be bothered with.
I find the dictation function very useable and in those situations when it would be hard to use, so would this.
I don't think this app speeds up texting at all.
I hope Apple don't make this the only way VO users can input text.
With the price of this and the news about the totally bonkers note app, it's a bad day for VI specific software.
#13 fletsy
it is expensive. what can you do with the app. is it a note app or can you use it to send emails etc.
#14 getting what you type into other apps.
So, how do you get what you type into fleksy into another app like mail or safari, or another app that for text entry? It seems counter productive to have an app that only allows you to type faster, but doesn't allow you to get what you type into another app like an email or some such thing.
#15 My thoughts on Fleksy
Hello, everyone
From what I've heard from demos recorded by a few people, fleksy sounds like an amazing app. If I had the funds, I would purchase it and give it a go, but I don't have the funds necessary to purchase the app at this time.
People have been complaining about the high price, and while it is indeed pricy, we must also remember the very detailed work that has been done in order for us to be able to use this app without voice over for most of the functions. I would use fleksy for things like texting on the go, and tweeting. I like the idea of texting with my voice, but it is kind of strange to text in public and just talk to a phone. Also, everyone would be hearing your side of a conversation that should be silent, because it's a text, of course.I would still continue to use my bluetooth keyboard for long portions of text, such as blog posts or sending emails. I do think the price is a little high, but I'm not complaining. I would love to be able to type faster on the touch screen keyboard, but it's not a major priority at this time. We must also remember that there are apps out there at a much higher price. I bought one of those apps, and I still can't even get it to work. I'd deffenetly make more use of this app.
I say that Fleksy is amazing. I really think the developers did an amazing job based on the demos that I've listen to. When I have money down the road I would certainly consider purchasing this app. It would be nice if I could get this app as a gift, wouldn't it? Lol.
Anyway, I really think this app is amazing and unique in its own way. I can't wait to see what direction the developers take this app. I'm seeing great things for Fleksy in the future.
#16 I think it's a white elephant
But...
If the site admins can work it out, I'd like to git it to you so we can see if you are as posative once you are using it.
#17 Oops
That was supposed to say gift it to you.
I still forget no spell check in GMAIL
#18 Fleksy
I type very accurately with this app. I load it in the morning and keep it open so I can switch over and type, then paste into my apps as needed. I am much much faster and it's much more enjoyable to type with Fleksy. Hope Apple is listening! Game chager for sure.
#19 Just a little clarification
Hello all. I did get this app earlier, and think it has a lot of potential. One thing that I am hearing is that you have to import your text or emails into your messaging or email app. You can text and email within the Flecksy app. I am glad of this, as I thought the same thing when I bought it, so it was a pleasant surprise. I look forward to seeing where this app goes from here.
#20 fleksy.
Hi all! Yeah, I was rather shocked at how much this was a s well. It sounds amazing from the demos, I just think another app of the many that I have. I don't know that I would really want to pay 15 dollars, and with siri, you don't type as much as you used too. My mom thought the price was reasonable when I was telling her about it when she picked me up this morning, but then she mentioned how I can dictate with my phone and how I hardly need to type anymore. So not sure if it's worth the money just because I have siri and the keyboard, sounds awesome though and totally amazing! Maybe someday I'll wind up getting it, just for now kinda on the fence.
#21 Flexi
I really wish people would stop winging about the price of Fleksy. Yes, it is on the pricey side, but how much do we spend on screen reader updates? I know this app doesn't have the functionality of a screen reader, nor is it meant to, but as it has been said before, it contributes to being able to rely on one device. Of course there will be updates and improvements, but it's my understanding that we won't have to repetedly pay for updates to the app, unlike what we would have to do if we brought other devices to serve specific functions. The copy and paste feature is a cool idea, meaning that you can type in the app and paste it into other applications. Having Fleksy run in the background and using it when needed isn't that big a deal, it doesn't seem to drain the battery life. I think it makes texting and emailing a hell of a lot easier!
#22 Thank you for the gift!
Hello,
I must thank the ones responsible for giving me the oppertunity to get a code to try this app. I really, really appriciate it very much. I'm thankful by the grace of God that I got to try this app. Unfortunately, I can not write a review in the Itunes app store because I redeemed a code to get it, but I want to post my thoughts here.
I really enjoyed using this app. I was able to successfully type out tweets, and even though I type pretty bad for using a touch-screen keyboard without voiceover, fleksy got almost every word I typed almost every time. I really applaud the developers for their work on this app, and I say, keep up the great work! It's amazing! Thank you!
#23 thoughts about fleksy including voice dictation.
Hi from the big R.
As one of the testers of fleksy I started using it about 4 weeks ago give or take. When I first used the app I was quite impressed. I have used every versions since its release. It just keeps getting better. I do know of some things they will be working on to improve the app. The fleksy team is very helpful and ready to help if you have any issues. They are wonderful to work with. As many of you know, I love voice dictation apps. Also if you don’t know I am also a tech trainer. I now have the opportunity to demonstrate both types of apps to my students. Now I can enter text with my voice. Thanks to fleksy, I am faster on the iPhone’s keyboard. I am quite good at entering text on the keyboard without fleksy. However, with the app I really can enter text as though I were at a Bluetooth keyboard. Remember I have been using the app for longer than most of you. I assure you that was meant as a positive statement. For me, the app does what I expect it to do. now lets play the devil’s advocate for a moment. For those who have heard my audioboos, know, the text dictation apps out there are getting better almost every week. I love to talk. Most of us who dictate to siri or some other dictation app, have learned to compose their thoughts before speaking. Most of the dictation apps out there will let you append to your recording. Because of this you can say a lot. The text really flows as though you were reading a very long memo. You can say a lot in just a small amount of time. So, your texts can become rather lingthy. Hands down, I am faster at dictating in to my device than I am entering text. Having said this, when I’m in class and want to enter text I won’t use a dictation app. When I am outside or riding a bus or driving in a car I I won’t be dictating either. I have done this before. I was telling my son I want to have hamburgers for supper. The text came out, I want to have handlebars for supper. That’s just one strange slip of a dictation app. Dictation is really good today. It will get better. So will fleksy. For me, in my arsenal of tools on my iOS device, fleksy will be there when I want it. So will be the touch and Braille app when it gets here. I love all this cool technology and I embrace it with a great deal of passion. In fact I drive everyone crazy talking about it to some who just don’t get it.
So there you have it. Just some rambling thoughts from the big R. Thanks for your attention in reading this lengthy post. ODid I by it? No. Will I by it? Yes. I will by fleksy for my device at work.
Enjoy texting, how ever you input it in to your device.
From your friend.
The big R.
#24 A few thoughts about the price of flexy
I think that what everyone needs to consider when deciding that the price of flexy is too high is how much time and effort the developers had to put into writing/programming the app to behave differemtly than is the norm in iOS. The keyboard had to be redone to some degree to accept the different gestures (I.E. not inputting a letter until the user has lifted their finger, swipes behaving differently, and basically recreating the roter gesture). In addition, the developers would have needed to do a fair amount to implement a self voicing aspect, especially focusing on refining it in the keyboard to minimize huge lags that would have made the app difficult if not impossible to be used for its intended purpose. This doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the huge amount of work that was done. I'm sure that there were many more under the hood aspects that we don't know about. For instance, it would have taken a great deal of time and resources to develop an algorithm of this complexity that so accurately guesses what text the user means to input. Posters on this thread have said that they do not believe in paying higher prices for apps of this nature, but I think that they need to stop and realize, as another poster has said, that apps like flexy are not apps that can be easily written with a minimal amount of effort. For my own part, I think that flexy has been reasonably priced and that it is quite possibly a game changer for the way that blind people type on a touch screen..
#25 I Agree
Very well-put, Megan. I cannot imagine the level of development that went into Flekxy and the developers are to be commended for their efforts. I personally don't want Flekxy because, as stated above, the time it would take to turn VO off / type text / turn VO back on / send the text to whatever app seems equal (if not longer) than it would take me to type on the onscreen keyboard. I know people though that love Fleksy and don't mind switching between apps, so it sounds like a lot of it is personal prefference.
Is Flekxy a bad application? Absolutely not. Did the developers work their butts off? You bet. Does Flexy have huge potential? Of course it does. I just don't think it's there quite yet.
Hopefully, Apple will allow the developers of Fleksy to integrate their app into the core iOS accessibility system. If Apple does that, this app could truely be a game-changer.
#26 I can never resist trying out
I can never resist trying out a new accessibility app, even at $15. Especially when I read and heard what this app was capable of. I rushed straight from AppleVis to grab my phone and download the app to try it out.
I must say, I'm beyond impressed. It was very simple to get used to the typing and swiping - I've been a touch typist since before I lost my sight, so I knew where exactly the keys were supposed to be. It was always a bit of a pain with the iPhone to have to do some hunting and pecking, as my finger'd usually land in the general area of the letter but usually one letter over. I was amazed at Fleksy's ability to predict what it was I wanted to type. There were only one or two things where the first guess wasn't the correct one, but sure enough - the one I wanted was only a downward flick away and I could continue on.
I immediately went into a texting frenzy, reveling in my ability to quickly type complex words like "approximately" in a couple seconds. I even showed a sighted family member and she was amazed too - apparently it shows the resultant gibberish my blind typing first came up with and then Fleksy's error-proof guessing of the actual word I was attempting to type. I commend the developers at figuring out whatever sort of algorithm might have been required to accurately predict words based on the general positioning of the taps. Too cool.
I admit it would be cool to have this overlayed with all apps, though the copy feature and the App Switcher makes this pretty well easy to get around with little trouble or fuss. I mainly want to use this with texts and emails, and the functionality for those is already set in there. I was able to add numbers into the favorites, too, to make it even easier to send messages to the people I usually send to. When I received a message back, it was pretty simple to switch to Fleksy with the App Switcher, type up a response and send a text back. Not as smooth as doing it directly in the Messages app, of course, but I find it well worth the added speed to typing. To think I was just griping to myself about how long it took me to type out anything detailed in text messages.
$15 certainly is a hefty pricetag in comparison to some, though the work these people put into it is amazing. And, as others say, they have to make up for the lower volume of downloads due to the majority of people being sighted.
As it is, the integration with other apps seems to be the only major problem it has - it may be fixed in future releases to make it more smooth or something, but who knows. I'm alright with the way they have it now.
The only other issue (and it's not that big of an issue for me) is that you obviously need to know how to spell fairly well. I imagine if you try to type in a word, but spell it incorrectly that Fleksy may have an issue in telling what the word is. Naturally, too, people may have an issue if they don't have the layout of the keyboard memorized - though practice makes perfect and most people are fairly good at keyboard layouts anyhow.
I just wish there was a way to browse through the custom words we've added into the Fleksy dictionary and be able to delete some we don't want. I added one or two on accident when I was first testing things out. Maybe in a future release? Hopefully! I have high hopes for the future of this app.
#27 Fleksy Owners
I'm with Michael on this matter for Fleksy. It just seems a lot of work for the value.
I am curious, though. Are there anyone that has purchased Fleksy that thought it was a bit of a let down for the price they are charging? I mean did you find the value to be worth regardless of the hassle?
I only notice that two people would recommend this app so far.
So I get the impression that most like it but will need to wait on the updates to re-consider their thoughts on the app if they truely love it and think the value is very well worth the price?
I mean. If you look at Looktel Recognizer or Digit-Eyes that are priced at $9.99. I say those both are well worth that price! Some reason and I'm sure it is a mental block of mine but with all that work to make something work. $14.99 just still seem a bit high for me.
I certainly be more incline to purchase it for $9.99 than if at $14.99. Perhaps, I'm spoiled and that may be so.
There is no doubt the Fleksy developers work hard on this product. I do pat them on the back for their hard work.
I could be wrong but there are those few that dived in to it and purchased it but I think there are a lot more that didn't. Mostly because of the cost and the extra work that just make us shy away from it for now.
I like to see their list of things you can do grow. Expland the list beyond the e-mail, Twitter, and Copy. Make it huge so that you don't have to jump out of it all the time.
Anyhow that is my two cents.
#28 Thoughts on price after a couple days usage
So I'm a couple of days in with Fleksy now, and I'm enjoying the experience of more fluid typing a lot. I still use the standard keyboard for short to medium text input, but I can imagine this replacing my Bluetooth keyboard once some editing capabilities have been added down the line. With those scenarios in mind, I've got to concede that the app was a lot cheaper than my keyboard. The insane load time on first run since your last reboot and lack of integration are binds, but for long emails, taking notes on the move etc, I'd be willing to bet that Fleksy would be an overall time-saver for most people. I've also started to find that I devote less brain space to typing using Fleksy, so I can comfortably type whilst interacting with my surroundings again, providing the environment leaves me able to hear the suggestions obviously.
So far, I'm happy to stand by my original comment that this doesn't do much to break the mold of specialist apps being overpriced, but I would classify this as "a bit expensive" rather than "ridiculous" as is so often the case with apps specifically aimed at VI users. Very strong points in its favour are that it seems to be rock solid in terms of stability, and that the functionality is unique and actually helpful... two things that aren't seen often enough in our ballpark.
What I'd really love to see is Fleksy being sold on Cydia to get around the integration issues. Yep, jailbreakers pay for apps too ya know!
#29 I too have thought about
I too have thought about Fleksy being on Cydia...but the issue with that is that Apple probably wouldn't allow it in the app store if it's on Cydia.
#30 Fleksy
This app works very very well and is much much better than I anticipated. It is easy to bring it up. leave in app switcher and then anytime you need to write anything more than a couple of words, just switch over and fly, then export your stuff either by copy/edit or via e-mail, tweet, or message.
#31 My 2 p's worth
I'm reasonably fast at typing on the iPhone's touchscreen, so when I read Fleksy's appstore descrription I couldn't see any benefit for me. Also the price put me off a little too. But even a small bluetooth keyboard costs a lot more.
I heard the podcast about it and it amazed me to hear how fast david was typing, so that sold me.
After a couple of days using Fleksy on and off, I love it.
There's some amazing technology at work behind the scenes. You don't even have to type at the bottom of the screen where the keyboard is, it seems like you can type anywhere on the screen where you feel most comfortable.
I'd say that with Fleksy, I can type as fast as sighted people can. That in itself is worth the price alone.
However, one thing that stops me using it more than I do is the only thing the developers can't do anything about, which is that they can't integrate it into iOS. If they could, that would be amazing.
Also, the app's too slow to load at first. I can only guess at what it's doing, probably drawing a virtual image of the screen or something. But, I could have wrote an average sized text, proofread it and sent it by the time it's finished loading. However, I've heard from the developers that they're working on cutting the time it takes to load by half in the next version, which is a little better. Thankfully though, once it's loaded, switching to it from the app switcher doesn't take long at all.
For me, it'll come into it's own when I have to write anything longer than a tweet or a text message. If I've got to write a long e-mail or something similar, I'll use fleksy. For shorter things, I'll just use the standard onscreen keyboard.
I was thinking about buying a bluetooth keyboard, but not anymore.
The developers are amazingly quick at responding to any feedback they receive, which is wonderful.
I'm definitely going to keep an eye on Fleksy's future development.
#32 First impressions of Fleksy
I am finally getting the chance to take some time to write some thoughts on my experience using Fleksy. What a wonderful app. For those of you who are a little skeptical, I can tell you it is worth every penny. I have been apalled at some of the comments I have been reading from various mailing lists since the app was released. What was the main complaint? As usual with the blind community, the price. I think that everyone should give Fleksy a chance, before shooting it down without even having tested the app for yourself. The only improvement that would make the app even better in my opinion, is to integrate fleksy as a keyboard in the IOS device. Otherwise, I have absolutely no complaints about the device. I can't wait to see what future releases will bring.
#33 Thank You to the Fleksy Team
It blows me away that we have gotten to a point in Assistive Tech where people are complaining that they don't see the value of something because they are fine with dictating. I was fortunate enough to be involved with the beta on this project, and, am very impressed with the app, its performance, and the Fleksy team. There have been a few things here that have annoyed me, so wil address them in a constructive manner.
1. People saying why would you use Fleksy than have to go and use another app to email or text.
You don't you can email, text, and even tweet directly from Fleksy. People need to read the comments before rushing to comment.
2. It seems like an awful lot to type something than turn VO back on.
Seriously? What does it take not even two seconds to toggle VO on and off with a triple click of the home button? Seriously people how lazy have you gotten? May be it is that you don't listen to music or podcasts on your iPhone, but I do and always toggle VO off when listening, and no, it hasn't broken my phone, and it takes two second and is nice to listen to something and not be interrupted every two seconds by a push notification and VO.
3. The price
Yeah it is more expensive than I would have liked, but welcome to the real world. How much does Jaws cost, a Victor Reader, or anything worth getting? And yeah, it is a lot cheaper than buying a blue tooth keyboard.
And most importantly.
How lucky are we that we are at a point with technology where apps for the iPhone are being specifically designed for people with a visual impairment. I would like to personally thank the Fleksy Development team for creating this app, and continuing to improve it. I would also like to apologize to them for all the haters out there. Please don't let the negativity discourage you in your future endeavors.
#34 Fleksy sounds like an android
Fleksy sounds like an android app I was reading about on google called BlindType or Blind swype the other day but it was supposed to be aimed at everyone not just the VI.
I don't know if it was ever released or just demoed or if the Fleksy developers have anything to do with them. All the posts I could find were from 2010.
#35 I can't get along with it believe it or not
I've bought this app and genuinely can't get on with it. I am spending more time fighting with the autocorrection system than entering text. Perhaps I am so used to the touch screen - I keep making accidental taps, either that or the system isn't all that fast at responding.
The idea is nice, but one wonders why anyone would bother. Learning the touch screen is something that we've already invested time in.
As I said, couldn't get along with it and have deleted it from my iPhone 4s.
#36 An awesome app
I have tried out many apps for my iPhone. This app is just "wow." It just works. I love how fast one can type using Fleksy. Like others have said one day, it would be nice if the keyboard was intigrated into IOS. I see myself using this app for text messages and emails as well as new tweets. A job well done to the Fleksy development team!! I look forward to future updates to this app. This is def worth the $14.99 btw!
#37 Seems Like a Nice App
I am a huge fan of Applevis but don't usually post any comments but I was compelled to do so regarding Fleksy. Although I have never used Fleksy, it does seem like a wonderful app. I was planning to purchase Fleksy but I have had some unseen expenses with my guide dog. People, please stop winding about the price. Nothing in life is free!! If you put the time to develop an app, wouldn't you like to be paid? How many of us buy Starbucks coffee or some other thing on a regular basis? $15 does seem reasonable. If you think it is too expensive, simply don't purchase it. Good job Flekxy team!!
#38 My thoughts
Hi all, for me in the UK its priced around £10.49 which for what the app does I would actually go out and buy it. I think its reasonable anyway on to my comments. Call me out dated if you will because I have a Nokia N73 that I brought in 2007 and I'm still using it 5 years later. I however, am not out dated in technology stuff. I really wanted and still do to get an iPhone for mainly texting and calling but when I tryed it I thought "seriously this isn't productive!" I was still disappointed because I still wanted one! LOL Now from 2012 I was going to hold off till 2015 why? Well just a number that popped into my head to see how the iPhone would develop for Blind - VI users. Myself being blind and having to depend on Voiceover without fail. It looks like I maybe changing my word. I'm not sure 100% but I feel even more tempted to buy an iPhone and this app for my texting needs. I would like conclude on one last thing or two. 1. No one has mentioned about capitalising letters. When I looked at the iPhone's virtual keyboard I thought how annoying to having to find the shift key to make one letter bigger then hit the shift again to go back to lower case. in contrast Fleksy does it automatically for you but that's no excuse for not doing it manually in other words try to remember your capitals people. Also the punctuation and number's sound just wonderful to use. I think the key word is to be able to use it with "Ease." I can see it being a real easy solution if its used in the right way for new people to the iPhone. Basically what I'm trying to say that I could do all the above with my Nokia N73 but found it really hard with Apple's way of using the virtual keyboard but this app may change my mind towards getting one and I think that's good! 2. For Apple to fingers crossed to embrace the technology and have it as a standard in there IOS platform. If they were to not I think they would be making a mistake. Any thoughts why they wouldn't.
Thank you for reading my post.

#39 the price is crazy
I don't know if I will buy the app, because the price is out of any reasonable matter.
This is not the unique app for visual impaired, try to look at Ariadne Gps for example, the price is not 99 cent, but is still ok.
In Italy this app will have no market.
it is really a pitty!
#40 Get over it
Fleksy is an app that works great and has increased my typing by a lot. I don't understand why people need to badmouth Fleksy for being $14. So if's $14 it's not like a new note taker for Christ sake. Come on get out of your stupidity and look at it from the perspective of the developer needs to eat.
end of discussion
#41 Same old same old...
Ask three blind people what they think and you'll get seven opinions.
For me, it's to much messing about and takes just as long as using the on-screen-keyboard. Also, the price in the UK seems to be higher - I know we are in the s**t, but I don't think the dollar is that strong!
The amazing thing is that we all have a choice, buy it or don't buy it, use it or don't use it. Let's not turn Fleksy in to some sort of article of faith!
#42 Entitled to your own thought
Hello everyone,
I think we all can say one thing we all have in common on Fleksy. Fleksy is a wonderful app and the developer has done a great job. I don't think anybody is saying otherwise.
I think we can just end the argument right here on the matter when it comes to the pricing.
It is a given that some think it is overpriced. There are those that they think the price is just right. Lastly, there are some that think it is a bit high but it is worth it.
What compells me is that I don't think I have ever seen such a divided group of people on a single app before. That is very interesting to me. Least I never seen anything like this in the days I've been on AppleVis.
So the concensus is that we are all divided on this app on the pricing.
I don't think there is more to discuss on who is right and who is not. ;)
I personally think that we have beat this enough. It is now in the developers best interest in what they think is priced fairly or not. It is their bottom line and not ours but I'm sure they are also intersted in knowing where we lie on the matter of how people like it and how much the consumer are willing to pay for it.
I think we have said enough. ;)
#43 Agree with JT
I think it is one of those apps you either get or don't. For me, I am in agreement that by the time you've loaded it and got going, you could have entered the text on the screen using the standard touch interface. I'm not really convinced that the price justifies the functionality either. It is clunky, slow to load, very time consuming to keep switching from it to other apps and pasting, etc, etc. Either way, it's been an interesting discussion and i'm certainly not going to continue using the app myself. Waste of a tenner.
#44 Now that I bought fleksy I have to comment again.
So I mentioned kinda being on the fence about Fleksy the other night. Then my mom called and asked if I had bought the keyboard I was talking about. I told her no and we talked about it. We came to the conclusion that if I didn't buy it I'd never know. All said, I think it was worth the price. I haven't used it a whole whole bunch, but it does seem faster then just typing regular with the keyboard and vo. It is amazingly accurate, and I am amazed at how it is possible. I have realized dictation doesn't always understand and there are times where you wouldn't use it anyways. Hopefully in next updates it will take less time to load, and posting to FZB would also be nice. Other then that, all said, it is a brilliant app and I'm glad I purchased it.
#45 I wonder.
I was wondering about the Fleksy app being a part of the OS itself.
What would happen to all those people who payed for the app, if Fleksy got implemented in to the next iOS?
Just a thought. Wouldn't the people who payed for the app just be paying for something they could have gotten from a regular iOS update.
But, whatever though. I was just throwing some things out there.
The app is pretty good over all though, from the podcasts i have heard. I haven't got it, because of the price, but I would think about getting it sometime in the future.
#46 At first I had my
At first I had my reservations about this application, but I take it all back. It is an amazing tool. I thought I was fast with the tactile screen protector, but I am even faster with this. So thanks Fleksy team for a fantastic application, I hope that apple will really consider integrating this into the iooss system.
And yes I wrote this message with Fleksy.
#47 is fleksy in other languages?
Hi all, fleksy supports other languages than english?
It would be nice if it doesnt for next updates it could. Is 1 of the reassongs I havn't bought it.
#48 awesome app
I downloaded this app late last week; it is awesome and speeds my typing up considerably. As someone else pointed out, it's not always practical to have the bluetooth keyboard around and this is a great alternative.
I'm of course not complaining but just pointing out that it'd be great if we can add more than one number to our list of favourites, just one or two more would be good as to not clutter up the app too much.
Just on a lighter note, i feel really good when I'm typing on it as I sound like my sighted peers with those key clicks. Lol!
There are a few words I seem to have trouble entering, and unfortunately I haven't seemed to master the art of entering words in manually that well but I guess it will come with practice; It seems that when I move my finger around the screen, it will create newlines and add unwanted punctuations Lol I need to relisten to some podcasts methinks.
Anyway, great job to the developers and as others have said, looking forward to updates.:)
#49 Moving most of the posts elsewhere
Hi, this is mor to the admins of the site. I find the discussion about the price of Fleksy extremely pointles. I think it would be good if many of the posts in this thread would be moved to a forum. When someone looks at the site to learn more about the experience of other users of Fleksy, they will have a hard time finding the useful comments among the 48 pposts that have been made so far.

#50 Adding Numbers And Email Addresses to Favorites in Fleksy
To the person that said they wished they could have more than 1 favourite, you can. I'm not sure what the limit is, but to add more than 1 just separate them with comas when you add them to the edit field. I have several favourites and I had no problems adding them. Hope this helps you out.
#51 Rough around the edges but worth it
For it's newness, I think this app is well worth the price. As the developers have stated, there are still bugs and things that I hope they improve mainly the amount of time it takes for fleksy to load. To me, it's inexcusable for an app to take over a minute to load if it is in your app list available for switching. I know that IOS puts some apps in memory in suspension mode, but if you don't open up the Fleksy app for several hours and have opened other apps before you want to launch Fleksy, you have to wait for the app to load. This is pretty counterproductive especially if you want to dash off a quick text after you've been multitasking with three or four other applications.
As I said though, I'm sure things will improve and I look forward to Fleksy's future.
#52 Thoughts on the pricing
I don't agree with moving the comments regarding pricing to another forum. This has given us some useful discussion points, namely, why are the blind being robbed yet again.. Telling people to "stop whining" and "get over it" isn't helpful or useful, it is offensive in the extreme quite frankly. The app is overpriced for what it is, end of story. It is a glorified t9 system that doesn't work properly, has a terrible TTS and clunky interface design, is overly sensitive to taps, has a terrible start up time and should never have been released in it's current state. Of course, yet again, the blindness hype machine brings this app to godlike status. To expect people to pay £10 in the UK is completely insane. I understand that it is a specialist app, but I am also getting rather tired of being taxed because I can't see, having to be grateful to every single indy developer that decides to solve issues that aren't there such as typing on a touchscreen with a glorified autocorrect system that is flaky at best.
To be fair, I think, I understand what the developer is trying to do. I suspect that braille input would perhaps have been a better way to go, but if those who are using it are getting on with it, the expression a fool and his money are soon parted. Yes, that also includes me in this case.
To finish, although I have come across harsh here, somebody has to be reasonable. There is only so much taxing of disability we should put up with. We spend a disproportionate amount of funds on technology and accessible devices and this app is one such trying to prove the rule that the blind will buy whatever is thrown at them. Either way, i'll certainly not be buying from these developers again. I hope the updates come thick and fast to improve it, but we've heard this all before. Basically, Fleksy is yet again, another blindness specific app that is overpriced and in my view at least, under delivers. I'm certainly never buying a specialist app for the visually impaired at Fleksy's price ever again, not unless it is uniformly proven to be worth it.
#53 Moving this discussion
I didn't say this discussion shouldn't have happened, but I think this entry is not a good place for it to have happened. This is the app description page and not a forum to discuss whether the blind are ripped of by developers of blindness apps. Anyone looking for technical info on how well the app actually performs will have to wade through all these opinions on pricing, which makes finding the info you want more time consuming than necessary.
#54 Splitting discussion
It would be quite difficult to prune posts now, as it would break up the discussion that has taken place and the result could be quite disjointed.
Of course, many posts talk about both the functionality of the app and its pricing.
Some might argue that it is impossible to discuss the merits of Fleksy without reference to its price.
However, for those who are keen to discuss the pricing in general of apps that are specifically for blind users, Michael has recently posted a blog on this very topic. You all might want to share your views there.
#55 typing technique
I'd like to hear about your typing technique on the Iphone using this ap. Thumbs, typing each letter by touching with one finger, both hands? I use my pointer finger currently without the ap. I'm just interested to know how others type so quickly as I've heard on the podcasts.
#56 Fleksy is fantastic!
I type faster than ever on my IPhone 4S with Fleksy. Can't wait for further updates. Most of the negative comments are from those who apparently haven't even read the description of the app or they wouldn't be making statements about not being able to send, texts, emails or tweets from the app itself. Read before you bash please!
#57 Texting and emailing from within Fleksy
I can't speak for anyone else who's commented on this obviously, but seems like it'd be worth posting to clarify why emailing directly from Fleksy doesn't get used much here.
Unless I'm missing something, you can only use the in-built email form to create new messages. Of course I'm happy that the developers have added that functionality, but in my case, the vast majority of emails I send from my iPhone are replies that can't wait until I'm back at a computer. There isn't a way so far as I can tell to reply to messages that are already in your inbox or some other folder, so you can't quote the message that you're replying too, and unless you're extremely careful with the subject field, your mails won't be correctly grouped by thread either. Aside from that, the app adds a "Typed using Fleksy" sig to every email, which is a big turn off for me and seemed most unusual for a paid app. The sig can't be disabled at the moment, although when I wrote to the developers and asked for that option to be added, I got a quick and friendly reply assuring me that it had been added to their list of things to do.
Texting from within the app seems more likely in my case, but aside from checking that it works, I haven't yet had to send an SMS lengthy enough to make the trade off of loading time and locating the person in my contacts worth it. That's not intended as a bash point, it's simply about productivity which, after all, is the name of the game for this app. If your mileage varies then that's great news!
#58 Having said that, I've just
Having said that, I've just noticed that when I wrote to the Fleksy team, the chap who replied was quoting previous emails perfectly and he was also rocking the "Typed with Fleksy" signiture too. I guess that means that either I'm dumb and this can already be done, or it's an upcoming feature. Either way, it's good news.
#59 Hi there. We do have the
Hi there.
We do have the benefit of some experimental features in our lab that even our beta testers haven't seen yet. So yes, we do mean it when we say some improvements are coming up.

#60 Great, that addition is gonna
Great, that addition is gonna double the amount I use the app!
#61 Fleksy, a revolutionary product?
This app has sure generated some discussion. I've got Fleksy myself, and quite enjoy it. However, I do find it a little time consuming to switch from app to app to enter text, etc, but I'm willing to put in the extra effort, because I think about technology several years ago, and how different it was. I really don't have any complaints. Whether this will be a revolutionary product or not is yet to be seen. I believe it has a lot of potential, and I'm interested to see how this app wil evolve over time as the iOS system evolves.

#63 Version 1.1
What's New in Version 1.1
Welcome to a new release of Fleksy - with many very exciting changes following feedback from our users. Here's what's new:
Fleksy is now free to try! The free version will not allow you to use the text, but will give everyone the full Fleksy typing experience.
If you have already purchased the full version previously, you will automatically be upgraded to the full version.
You no longer have to switch VoiceOver off to type. Please note, you have to first tap once anywhere on the screen before typing, in order to activate the keyboard. This is the way Direct Touch works.
When you launch Fleksy, it is now already in typing mode. You can use the keyboard area to type. To bring up the Fleksy menu, press and hold at the top of the screen, above the keyboard area.
We have re-ordered the app menus based on popular feedback.
You can now remove words from the dictionary. You remove words the same way you add them: type them in manual entry mode, and then, after swiping right, swipe up to remove from the dictionary.
The previous version of Fleksy prevented you from adding certain words in the dictionary - this has now been fixed.
There is now an easy way to add apostrophes to nouns. After writing a word, swipe right for period and you will find the (apostrophe s) shortcut in the suggestions.
We have reorganized how Fleksy formats emails. The word "Fleksy" is not added to the subject line any more. We have also included an option for using the first line of your text as the subject of outgoing e-mails.
Fleksy now supports the Screen Curtain feature when enabled.
Fleksy now speaks in the same language locale as your iPhone if you use the UK or Australian English voice.
Your user dictionary is now stored in iCloud on enabled devices. This means it will automatically be updated across your devices and stay in sync.
The instructions are now stored within Fleksy, so you can access them when you are offline or outside a network cover area.
There is now a "spell words" setting. This spells the last word entered after you have typed it.
We have updated the Twitter button to point to our new Twitter handle: @fleksy.
We have added the underscore to the list of symbols.
And, finally, Fleksy now notifies you it is ready when loading is completed.
Happy Typing!
#64 clear a message
Hi I have a quest? there is a copy and clar option but I like to know how to chose one or the other?
#65 Copy and Clear is 1 function
Hello, That button means that when you copy, your text will always be cleared. You can still just delete all your text by swiping left and holding. Thanks for using Fleksy! You can find our support crew ready to answer at support@fleksy.com Bill, Fleksy team
#66 I've been trying this out for
I've been trying this out for the past day or so and I like it overall especially how easy the input system is. I can use the iphone one handed and type a message if I wanted to like the old Nokia phones.
Just some feedback re some improvements I'd like to see:
Adding a word manually to the dictionary seems a bit flakey at times though. I have to touch and hold a screen twice sometimes before it will start reading the letters and I can then start moving my finger around the keyboard. It also seems to sometimes insert the wrong characters when it shouldn't be doing for example I may put my finger on the letter S and then move it to where A should be but it still inserts S. I have to try multiple times before I input the right word.
#67 Fleksy Upgrade
Please note that for trying Fleksy is free with limitation. The developers of the Fleksy have reduced their price of $14.99 now to the standard new price of $9.99 for the full upgrade.
#68 awesome
I bought Fleksy a few months ago and was very impressed; the recent upgrade is even better.
I got up to reading the first 31 comments and gave up; the amount of whingers is quite sad; not to mention the people who asked questions that were already answered in the comments; These people will talk down about the app when they don't even know how to use it.
The ability to be able to send texts directly from the app really impressed me, not to mention having the option to copy it to the clipboard for any other app. -- Well done guys; I can get messages out heaps faster as I'm not a quick typer on the phone without speed dots I admit.
#69 I just got the full version of Fleksy yesterday.
I'd had the trial version for around two weeks or so, and I finally decided to upgrade.
One feature I'd like to see is the apostrophe move to the basic punctuation list. The apostrophe-s is there, but not just the plain apostrophe. It would make writing words such as how've a lot easier. Fleksy seems to have a lot of trouble with that one. Other than that, I'm liking the app a lot.
Thanks,
Shersey
#70 How've
You will have to add that particular example to the Fleksy dictionary. It's not technically a proper conjunction. I say it all the time but have never written it so I Googled it just to make sure.
I added it to the dictionary and it picks it up great every time!
What's funny is that it is in the IOS dictionary.
#71 I can try doing that again.
Every time I've tried, however, I get the sound you get when there is no more text to delete. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, as I've added other words to the dictionary. I write the word manually, being sure to include the apostrophe, then swipe right. Fleksy then tries to correct my word. Then I swipe up and get that sound. I'm pretty sure that this happens--but I don't have my phone in front of me to be exactly correct. I'll post back later, as my phone is currently being used as an audiobook player for my fiance who's sleeping.
Thanks,
Shersey
#72 Version 1.2
Lots of new fixes and some new features!

✔ "Include subject in body" settings now works consistently across menu options.
✔ Fleksy is now compatible with iOS 6. Lots of bug squashing.
✔ Per our sighted friends request, you can now turn off Voice Feedback. Toggle in Settings.
✔ As shown in our video: Added setting to make the keyboard invisible.

#73 When sending a text message
When sending a text message using Fleksy, why does it add the words
reply and then my phone number at the end of the message? It is a bit confusing for the person recieveing the message.
#74 Reply links
Hello Neo,
This is intended functionality and a setting you can adjust. We call them Reply links and are useful when communicating often with other Fleksy users.
Navigate to Settings and then Fleksy. There are two fields that read "Your email address" and "Your phone number". You can populate these fields with your info, and from your description, I understand you already have done so.
When you do this, Fleksy will add that short link at the bottom of your emails and SMS messages. When the recipient of your message is also a Fleksy user, they can click the link from within their Messages app to initiate Fleksy and reply to you.
You can remove the links by deleting your info from those two fields, and leaving them empty. They are very convenient if you have Fleksy friends, though. We know because we use them all the time when communicating with each other here at Fleksy HQ.

Bill

#75 Oh i wish
Oh i wish i had more Fleksy friends so i could try clicking on the reply and wear my number is to see how it would work. I have some friends that I told them about fleksy but unfortunately they don't really like putting there number there because they don't think it's convenient. Now that I've read that I really want to try out with someone.
#76 A way to test
Hey Nanda!
You can always try sending either a message or an email to yourself (grin). Then you can show how it works to other people too!
Cheers,

#77 Fleksy is there whenever I need to right something long
I use fleksy whenever I have to right something long. When I simply jot down a text message, I don't fire up fleksy. Two of my sighted friends like Fleksy too, and with the new option to turn off speech, I will definitely request they try it out.
#78 Thanks for the clarification
Thanks for the clarification to do with reply links. I was thinking the phone number and email fields in the settings menu were so fleksy could add your contact details to its dictionary.
#79 Does Fleksy learn / adapt
Does Fleksy learn / adapt itself to the words you use most often over time? my vocabulary isn't all that extensive and if it could learn my prefered words I use most often it would speed up input even more.
#80 You can add words to Fleksy's dictionary.
This involves you typing the word manually, then flicking right. Fleksy will repeat what you've written, then you flick up. This will add the word to the dictionary.
Note: If you have already added a word, manually writing it, then flicking right then up will remove the word from Fleksy's dictionary. In that case, just flick down, then up again to readd the word.
The feature I would like to see is a "replace this with this" type of thing, wherein you can type words with apostrophes, such as how've. You would basically type howve, then Fleksy would correct it to how've. I'm not quite sure how you could accomplish this, but it would be nice. Either that or add the apostrophe to the basic punctuation list.
Other than that, Fleksy is a great app!
Thanks,
Shersey
#81 Fleksy and user habits
Currently, Fleksy does not learn from user habits. That said, we are constantly evovling our algorithms and this may change in the near future.
Stay tuned (smile)

#82 Agree about the apostrophe
Agree about the apostrophe being added to the punctuation list.
I do find using the keyboard to manually enter a word quite tricky sometimes and v slow. It doesn't seem as sensative as the in built IOS keyboard.
#83 entering an apostrophe
To type an apostrophe, you'll need to type it manually.
It's located above the letter U.
You'll find the colon symbol, and simply flick down till you get to the apostrophe.

#84 Version 1.3
Now designed for the iPhone 5. New features and squashes bugs to make this even faster and stable.
What's New in Version 1.3
- Fleksy now takes full advantage of the iPhone 5 and its bigger screen
- Facebook integration! Post to Facebook directly from Fleksy. Thank you for waiting guys (smile)
- Posting to Sina Weibo for our Chinese users is now as easy as posting to Twitter
- iOS 6 bug stomping continues. We will keep fighting for a bug free Fleksy
- Clicking sound when hoverring over letters in accurate typing mode
- A lot of visual improvements. Typing now feels fluid and fleksible, as it should :)
- Freed up text area space by optimizing alternate word suggestions position
This update brings us closer to the stability and consistency we strive for, in order for Fleksy to be a dependable tool, a solid keyboard we can build on. Thank you for your support and feedback, we value it greatly.
#85 The new update
This new update is excellent. I can now post to Facebook without fighting my hands to get to the notification centre grin. Typing is now instantaneous at least on my iPhone 4. Cheers guys! Keep up the good works!
#86 Quirky behavior in 1.3
I encountered some quirky behavior the first time that I ran version 1.3 - after typing I tapped on the top part of the screen to access the menu. This was duly displayed, but behaved as if VoiceOver was not enabled.
Toggling VoiceOver off and then back on again via a triple-click of the Home button got things back working as you expect them to be.
The app now seems to be working correctly, even after several restarts of the phone and closing via the App Switcher.
Very odd, and I only mention it here in case anybody else encounters the same thing.
#87 I had the same problem
I had the same problem in the previous version. After deleting and reinstalling the app I've not had it since. I've not had it in the update yet either.
#88 A tap and hold seems to help
This was happening to me constantly when using the favorites buttons before the update. It happened again last night trying to post to Facebook. I accidentally figured out a few weeks ago that a tap and hold anywhere on the screen brings VO back to focus on the options screen. I had hoped the update would fix this so maybe I'll try the unistall and reinstall like you did.
#89 Version 1.4
Now even faster! plus it is native to the iPad and the iPad Mini!
What's New in Version 1.4
It's that time of the month when typing becomes happier!
Welcome to the latest update of Fleksy, we think you will enjoy this:
- Loading times are down by 60% across all devices. Oh yeah.
- Significant performance boost in all devices. Snappy Snappy!
- Major bug fixes. Goodbye double messaging, Goodbye New Line or Delete getting stuck. You guys won't be missed. For optimal performance, switch to portrait after selecting a menu item, like messages.
- Orientation locking! Navigate to Settings choose to lock Fleksy's orientation according to your preference.
..and introducing:
- Fleksy for iPad and iPad mini! Fleksy now runs natively on all iPads. We redesigned the user interface so that you can leave all external keyboards at home: Place your iPad on your lap and type away.
Thank you for all your feedback, it has really helped us shape Fleksy into a wonderful experience we are very proud to share.
Keep sending us your thoughts and as always,
Happy Typing
-the Fleksy team
#90 Thank you
Thank you very much for the update which I received today.
I'm impressed with the loading time. Takes about 10 seconds on my iPhone 4 running iOs 6.0.1.
#91 Hi, I am using the latest
Hi,
I am using the latest version of Fleksy and liking the speed improvements that have been made.
I don't have my phone number or email entered into the Flexsy settings but whenever I type a message and choose to send it as a text message in Fleksy, the words Reply:// are appended at the end of it?
Also, sometimes when I try to enter a word manually, VoiceOver won't always read the character my finger is on as I move around the keyboard.
It would also be handy to add Whats App to the list of apps you can send text to from Fleksy and it would be good to have an easy way to input smileys into messages.
Thanks
#92 I don't know what the lock
I don't know what the lock orientation setting does in the Fleksy settings. My phone is locked in potrait mode already and it's giving me options to change between landscape left and lanscape right?
#93 One more issue
Hello: I don't know if other people are having this issue, but sometimes when I am using the app and go to the menus and select the "message" option, instead of it coming up to the "to" field as it is supposed to, The Fleksy keyboard pops back up. Again, I don't know if it is just me or if others are experiencing this problem also. Thanks.
#94 I believe this is a bug with
I believe this is a bug with either fleksy or IOS, I wrote to them about it and they say they are looking at it, but they think it might be an issue with IOS that only apple can fix.

#96 Lock Fleksy's Keyboard Orientation
Hey!
The lock orientation setting allows users to override their iDevice's lock setting. This means that you can have your phone locked in portrait, but type with Fleksy in Landscape. To do this, set Lock Fleksy keyboard in landscape from the Settings, unlock your iPhone from portrait, Start Fleksy and tilt it to landscape. It will lock in this orientation and you can lock your phone in portrait again.
Try it and let us know what you think!
Regards,
Bill
#97 Thanks for the speedy
Thanks for the speedy response and I will try using Fleksy in landscape mode and see how I find it.
#98 This sometimes happens to me as well.
Only I usually just copy text from Fleksy or send it to my favorites. Either way, the keyboard popping up after selecting either of these options from the menu happens occasionally. If it is an issue on Apple's end, I hope they get things resolved. :)
Thanks,
Shersey
#99 Same issue here and it's getting worse
I've had the same problem which annoyed me and now I wish that was the only problem I was having. Today I noticed that the entire app would freeze when I would touch the top of the screen to try and get a menu. My whole phone has been jerky and slow since iOS 6 but I didn't notice it after a few days but now that Fleksy is being effected drastically I'm really upset. It was not useable today, even after restarting the app. I reset my phone last night but I don't see how that would have anything to do with it. I'm beginning to think I need to restore the phone. Other apps being broken I can live with but not Fleksy, how dare the stupid iOS update mess with Fleksy haha.
I hope no one else starts to experience it this bad. I've got an iPhone 4.
Oh yeah, I was in touch with the developers and heard the same iOS being the problem. I don't doubt they'd be fixing it if they could. They should get developers of the year.
#100 Wow, Ro, mine's not locked up like that!
Like I said earlier, I do sometimes have the issue of the keyboard popping back up, but I don't think I've ever had the app respond slowly, even with iOS 6. At least, not while typing. The one thing I will mention is that Fleksy now says something about "Message service." when directly texting someone from within the app. I don't know what this is, but it does make texting slower. I'm not sure what it's doing, but it takes a couple more seconds for Fleksy to respond now when texting. So maybe I am experienceing slowness, after all! Lol. Anyhow, nothing about a "Message service" ever came up before, so I do think it's someting Apple implimented. It's either called "Message service" or "Message view" or something.
Which reminds me, I sent a text using Vokul today, and I had to press send even after telling Vokul I wanted to send the message. Maybe the two things are related. Annoying, Apple.
Thanks,
Shersey
#101 That reminds me of two other
That reminds me of two other things that happened yesterday, after it locked up, I heard no VO so hit the home key and then went back to Fleksy. It had called up an export dictionary email. What??? And then another time it ended up in instructions. I have no idea what's going on. I think my phone has gremlins and I must restore.
#102 Try something else first
Before you restore, try going into Fleksy, turninv Voiceover off and back on and see if that fixes your problem.
#103 I've tried that and
I've tried that and everything else I can think of as well as tips from the Fleksy folks. Doing the restore now. The whole phone is buggy, not just fleksy. But Fleksy being so badly effected is the final straw.
#104 Wow! I've never had that happen!
I think restoring is a good idea, especially since you mentioned that your phone has been buggy overall. The only real annoying thing that I have noticed with iOS 6 (and it might not be iOS 6), is that whenever I return to the home screen, VoiceOver will sometimes take a while to respond to touches/flicks on the screen. It's like while the phone is receiving input, VoiceOver doesn't register that it is, and then after I've touched/flicked a few times, the phone catches up with itself and VoiceOver starts spitting back voice/sounds to say what I've done when it wasn't responding. I hope that makes sense.
I try to have no more than 3-4 apps running at a time, and this didn't happen in iOS 5. That's what makes me think it's iOS 6. By the way, I'm using an iPhone 4 here.
Anyhow, getting back to Fleksy. I think a restore is a good idea, Ro. Hope things go better for you after restoring.
Thanks,
Shersey
#105 My intro and a couple of questions
Good afternoon everyone and the Fleksy team. First of all I just want to say that using this amazing app has really enhanced my typing on the iPhone. I know that we don't have it built into ios yet but I'm quite happy copying and pasting text from it to other applications. My questions are as followed..
There is just one command I'm not getting and that's the menu command for Facebook twitter etc. What I am doing is placing two fingers on the screen when I'm finished typing. However, I don't know if it's a bug or not at times when I do the menu command, it doesn't work and I them end up adding some more text which I them have to delete and try again. Sometimes it will work but at others I have to repeat the procedure. I have also tried giving it a few seconds and I'm not sure is this works or not. So the question is how can I do the menu command correctly is I'm not doing it right?.
The second question is there a mailing list at all for this app?.
I look forward to hearing from everyone.
Thanks.
Daniel
#106 My intro and a couple of Fleksy questions</p>
Hi to all and to the Fleksy team too. I got an iphone 5 for christmas and installed and downloaded, installed and brought this app and I must say that it has really inhanced my typing on the iPhone! Quite honestly, I use it all the time and I understand that it isn't directly hooked into Apple's IOS but maybe one day. At any rate, I really enjoy using the copy/paste feature plus the ability to post to FB Twitter etc.
I have just two questions that I would like to know the answers too if they can be answered
1. This relates to bringing up the menu for FB Twitter etc. I don't know if its me that I'm not performing the gesture right or its a bug but when I perform this gesture, I find that it doesn't always bring up the menu. I will end up typing a few more letters and then I have to go back and delete them and try again. Sometimes I will have to do this twice before the menu comes up. The way I am doing the gesture is I put two fingers on the screen my index and middle fingers of my left hand and hold them there until I hear the sound. I try to aim at the middle of the screen or slightly higher but still in the middle. I hope this makes sence and please let me know if I am doing the gesture right.
2. The second question is simply is there a mailing list for Fleksy at all. Where one can subscribe and ask/answer questions.
If anyone could help me out then that would be truely grateful.
Thanks
Daniel
#107 Menus for Fleksy
Can't say about the mailing list, but when you are typing and want to access the Fleksy menus, you tap with one finger on the top half of the screen and hold until you hear feedback.
#108 Thank you for the menu tip
Hi sockhopsinger, thank you for the menu tip. As for the mailing list don't worry about not knowing nothing about it.
#109 Flexy
For the first question, if you just use only your one index finger and hold, the menu should pop up. For your second question, Flexy can be followed by on Twitter.
#110 adding .co.uk to the list of common website endings in Fleksy
Hello to everyone and too the Fleksy team. One thing I discovered which was by accident was that when you find the period located to the top left of the additional symbols, when I arrowed down I noticed it said .com enchanted, I continued flicking down and noticed others e.g. .net I don't know if this has been left out or if its because Fleksy was created in another country but in this list I didn't see .co.uk because I live in the UK, I would like to request that this be added in a Fleksy update. It would save time typing this in manually and I'm sure others will agree be a welcome addition to the growing list of website endings. Thank you for reading and I look forward to your feedback.
#111 Version 1.5
What's New in Version 1.5
Fleksy gets updated for the first time in 2013!
- Fleksy now speaks Spanish! Head over to iPhone Settings, then Fleksy to switch languages. Needs app restart to take effect.
- Greatly improved accuracy on iPhone 5 and iPad mini. Ever typed “How ate you?”, we all have! No more (smile). Will be on all devices in next update.
- Reorganized Fleksy’s Settings layout in the Settings application.
- Fixed the “Reply link and signature jargon” bugs. Features work as they should on all devices again.
- Fixed “Export Dictionary” bug. The button used to inform that the dictionary was empty, even if that wasn’t the case.
- Visual upgrades to match our new websites and better suit our identity.
Thank you for using Fleksy and diligently providing us with awesome feedback; It helps us make a better Fleksy, so keep it coming!
Enjoy this update, and stay tuned for more coming soon.
#112 Great
I tried the free version when only English was available, and I just bought it because now Supports Spanish. But it was not that expensive, it only cost me 4,50 euro, is it a special offer or a new final price?
#113 I just went to install the
I just went to install the latest update, and the app store didn't prompt me it was there.
I had to manually search for the app, then I was given the install option, very strange.
#114 I too have experienced this
I too have experienced this with other apps from time to time. I think it just depends on when the content is refreshed on your device. What I've done (with good success) is just close the app store in app switcher, then reopen it. That has worked for me the last couple times I've tried it.
#115 Has gone completely free of cost now!
There are no longer any in-app purchase. It is now completely free of charge.
The team of Fleksy has put out a statement about over here at:
State of Touch Typing – Fleksy goes free

What's New in Version 1.6
New Gestures, New Menu, Increased Accuracy and more...
Two updates in less than a month? Indeed, we keep happy, we keep typing! Here’s what’s new:
- Introducing new gestures: Swipe Up with Two fingers to invoke the menu. Swipe Down with Two fingers for a New Line.
- Revamped the menu! New Items, new order. Let us know what you think.
- Increased accuracy in all devices. Especially in smaller words.
- Snappier, faster, more responsive Fleksy. VoiceOver will now keep up
- Ever wished for Fleksy to be in all iOS apps? Check out the new menu option to let Apple know (heart)
- Added a follow @fleksy button.
- Updated Instructions with even more details.
- Bug Squashed: Messaging bug. Tap Tap Swipe, Menu, Favorite, Send. Done. No more throwbacks. Shout out to all our beautiful testers.
One more thing...
Thank you all for giving us the opportunity to do what we always wanted. What felt right:
"Fleksy is now completely FREE."
This is possible because of your incredible support. Because of your feedback, your tweets, your invaluable App Store reviews. Because you have helped us propel from an accessibility technology to a mainstream keyboard.
We will keep researching, updating, sweating over Fleksy, to make it an even better experience. Look out for our future updates, and read more about this on our blog.
In the meantime, you can tell your friends about it (smile).
#117 Just Jumped on the Fleksy Bandwagon
I just downloaded Fleksy today. You can't beat the price at this point. Looks like it's got some pretty good potential, but how do you get text you type into other applications, like texts, Facebook comments, etc.? Once I figure that out, I might be one of the many who are calling this the coolest thing since...well, who knows what?
#118 BrailleTouch is better
Certainly not calling it the coolest thing since they effectively robbed the visually impaired by first, over pricing it and second, reducing it to free. I'm all for lowering prices for promotions and things like that, but to cut and run because they think they will be in bed with Apple is underhand and really shady. I'm never buying from this developer again.
#119 Notifying apple about...
Has anyone besides myself sent that email to apple to let them know that we'd like fleksy to be used in all iOS apps?
#120 Emailing Apple
Hi guys! I got the update today! I'm so happy with the time the app takes to load, only 3 seconds, and the fact that its free is just one more reason for everybody to enjoy the future of typing on touch screen devices, I already sent the email to apple, using fleksy in other apps and in all languages would surely be fantastic, I would sell my bt keyboards. And for the last commenter that said that the developers robbed you, no, they didn't. You aren't forced to buy anything and if you're an old apple user you will know that these promotions are quite frequent, one good case I can remember is with the djay app I got last year for 1.99, the normal price is 19.99! So what? When things are expensive people complain sooooo much, when they are for free they complain as we'll because you think it was money lost, I'm certain it helped a lot the fleksy team and if they asked 14.99 at first maybe they really needed some money to continue developing. Ok guys I'm really sorry to say all this sh** but I thought it was really unfair. I hope everyone sends the email and help this team of developers that worked hard to bring fleksy to where it is now.
#121 New update and bugs
There's two bugs i've noticed in the latest version.
One is that it still sometimes won't read the character you're finger is sliding over when you try to type a word manually. It does this very frequently I find.
The second is that when I want to send a text message, I tap on the message button in the main menu but nothing happens, I have to tap on it again to bring up the new message dialog.
I am finding the two finger sliding gesture to bring up the main menu a bit awkward to get used to as sometimes I am not sure if I've typed something by accident as the keyboard still makes a clicking sound as you move your fingers up. I preferred the old gesture.
#122 Emailed Apple
I held off on getting fleksy because I felt that buying an app where I had to do a lot of screwing around just to get something written down wasn't my thing. Now that it is free, I snagged it. I still won't use it as extensively as I do dictation, but it is another resource to use.
I don't feel like Fleksy was a rip-off or I was robbed if I bought it. I chose to not buy it. Simple as that! Same goes for BrailleTouch. I choose not to buy it, even though I know Braille. I have other desires on where to put my money where apps are concerned.
I did work with Fleksy, and it is very impressive to say the least! yes, I did email Apple from within the app. Hopefully they will implement Fleksy as an additional keyboard. of course, I got a canned response from Apple, but if enough people do this, it can go from a distant dream to reality.
I did look at apps on the app store. Hell, I'm an app junkie! Fleksy was #2 under productivity's free category section. I think that will send a message as well.
#123 A bug with manual entry and new gestures
Like Neo, I'm encountering the bug where you just get a click but no letter read out during manual entry. Thought I'd note it here to see how wide spread the problem is or whether it's user error of some kind.
Also, one thought on the new gestures is that they break my ability to use Fleksy one handed. I often find myself with the iPhone cradled in whichever hand is free and type using the thumb of that same hand. Can't do that anymore, which is a shame.
Other than those two little gripes, the new version is running great here. The increase of responsiveness is killer!
#124 Thank you for the Feedback!
Hey guys,
Thank you for the feedback on the latest and all versions of Fleksy. It helps us.
We are always looking into feedback for the new gestures, so that we can tweak and make them better. So, know that we value all feedback and will put it to good use.
You mention an issue with manual entry and VO not speaking back letters. I suggest a tip that may help:
Tap and hold on the screen and wait for VO to speak before you start sliding your finger. This way Fleksy won't confuse a long press with a tap or a swipe.
Let me know how it goes.
Cheers and Happy Typing.
Bill
#125 VO sometimes doesn't speak
Bill, that's exactly how I approach entering letters manually. Sometimes though, I just get a click as my finger touches the screen, and no matter how long I hold for, VO won't announce the character. Sliding at that point doesn't do anything either. Happens often enough here that I can rarely enter a word manually in one try, but I think it's only been this way for the last 2 versions. I'm running an iPhone 5, stock iOS 6.1.1 at the moment if that helps at all.
#126 Couple of points
Firstly, James Jolley's complaint is complete nonsense. The money I spent went to good use, so the developers are welcome to it. Keep up the good work.
However, I am still having one or two problems. I'm also having the problem with manual typing, though maybe not as frequently as described above.
Sorry guys but I'm not a fan of the new gestures at all. I keep accidentally typing a letter or two when I try to do the two finger gestures, and even when I've done it right, the keyboard clicks so I think I've typed something. Maybe I'll get the hang of it, I'm not sure. I also prefer to type with just one thumb which makes two finger gestures awkward too. I'm guessing / hoping though that the old touch and hold gesture has been earmarked for entering some sort of editing mode in the future; my number one request.
#127 intergrating fleksy but I don't use email on my phone.
Hi Fleksy team and to all on this vastly populated thread. In short, I want to inform Apple about using Fleksy as another keyboard into there IOS system but the fact of the matter is that I don't use email on my phone. I've got a computer for that sort of thing but I still would like to let Apple know. May I ask the team or for anyone else who has submited there interest in Fleksy being part of the IOS expirence. two things. 1. What does the sample email message say? 2. Does it get sent to accessibility@apple.com If it does, then a copy and paste of the sample message would be greatly appreshated if it was pasted here and then I could go on my merry way to copying and pasting it to the above email address. If this not the case, then what happens differently.
#128 With a computer I mean
Just to clarify I would copy and paste and send the email by my computer not my phone.
#129 Hey Daniel. You can write a
Hey Daniel. You can write a message in your own words, saying how you use Fleksy or why you would want it to be part of your phone. Yes, emails go to accessibility@apple.com and we've heard they do read and respond to them.
#130 Try this
Hi guys,
With the help of many users, we did some early research. Try the following:
Wait between taps. Tap and hold on the first letter. VO will speak and then find your letter. Release and before you touch down again, wait for a second. Repeat the process for the rest of the letters and swipe right.
If at any point VO stops reading back, swipe left. If the whole word is deleted, it means that a normal tap was registered, not a tap an hold.
Let me know if this works for you guys.
Thanks for all the help!
Regards,
Bill
#131 Other languages
Any hope for adding other languages soon? I would really want it to work in norwegian!
#132 Comments and bugs
I already mentioned this to the Fleksy team on Twitter. And by the looks of it, I am not the only one here who feels this way; I really do not like the new gestures at all. To me, they have just made things inconvenient. Prior to this, I was able to utilize the app and its entire functionality with one hand. Now, I have to use two hands; one to hold the phone in, the other to do the two finger upward swipe for bringing up the menu (which is one of the most important actions for using the app). This is extremely inconvenient for me since, one, I would rather use the app with one hand, and two, I just can’t perform that gesture properly. Rather than bringing up the menu, I keep entering other random characters, and then I have to go back, erase them, and then try again. It is such a nuisance and is just not working out well at all. Quite honestly, this is making using the app really frustrating.
The same applies for the gesture to add a new line. The new gesture (two-finger downward swipe) is also one that I really do not like. Again, with this gesture too, I have pretty much the same sort of issues as I explained above for the new gesture to bring up the menu. Now obviously, there is at least a work around to add a new line and avoid using the gesture. One can locate the new line key towards the bottom right of the screen and can add a line manually. There is however, no work around for bringing up the menu, and hence, it is the new gesture for the menu that I am really getting frustrated with.
I am not suggesting that the new gestures are taken away entirely, because I understand that maybe other users may find them to be better than the older gestures, and the new ones may be working out well for them. However, I really think that the older gestures, especially the one for bringing up the menu, should not have been taken away entirely. It is just a matter of convenience. If the Fleksy team would have retained the old gestures, and simply added the new ones, it would have been better. That way, the users would at least have both types of gestures to play with, and use the ones that work best for them.
Either that, or another suggestion would be that an extra option could be provided in the application’s settings, where the user can choose the gesture that he/she prefers to use.
Also, I too am encountering issues while typing manually (one character at a time). VoiceOver does not say the character when you touch and hold. I only hear a click, and even if I keep holding, VoiceOver still doesn’t say anything. It is really annoying and its happening very often in this new update.
#133 I love the new gestures! In
I love the new gestures!
In particular, the swipe up to get the menu is so much easier than the tap and hold or whatever it was before. I could never get that to work whereas this one works for me everytime. I always used to put extra letters in which I had to delete and that was extremely annoying because there were many of them. Now, I may get extra letters but only a couple, and so that is easy to delete. I don't understand why people think this is so much of an issue! But then they like the other way and I didn't. Perhaps that last person's suggestion of making it a decision within the settings as to which Gesture might be a good one though. I also love how much quicker it loads now!
Good job Fleksy!
#134 am ambivalent about the new gesture
I don't have a problem with either gesture, although I also prefer the tap and hold one from previously. Anyway, I do have one suggestion, actually two but quite related. Could the language choice be put into the fleksy menu? I'm trilingual English/Spanish/Chinese, and thus use both languages frequently. If you could put in a quick switch, that would be convenient. Also, the menu buttons and all text should match the input language. When you type in Spanish with the Spanish tts reading, the menu text makes no sence until you switch back to the English voice. It's not a huge dealbreaker, but it would be nice.
#135 I, too, prefer the old gestures.
I could get used to the new ones. I guess it's just a case of me wanting to resist change, but I can't help but wonder why the Fleksy team changed the menu gesture.
Thanks,
Shersey
#136 New menu
I guess the 2 finger swipe up is faster as compared to tap and hold?
#137 re: manual entry
I am having the same problem as Scottsdale. Even if I hold my finger on the screen as suggested earlier, to enter a letter manually, VO won't still speak. It doesn't do it everytime but it does it very often. Enough to be annoying and v difficult to input words manually.
#138 I too like the two finger gesture. However
Like some has already said I think there should be a setting in Fleksy where one can turn the old gesture or the new gesture on. Or even have them both. In other words it all comes down what the user like. Personally in the begining, I could never get the hang of the old gesture but as of late just they updated Fleksy with the new one I have just been getting the hang of it. I still like the new one though. Like I said though I think it should all come down to what the person wants to use.
#139 Hey Bill, Taken your advice
Hey Bill,
Taken your advice about waiting a while between each letter when entering characters manually. It helps a lot, and I'm seeing the behaviour much less often than 2 days ago, so thanks for the tip man.
Just wanted to confirm whether you guys are still considering this to be a bug of sorts? The technique above feels more like a temporary workaround than an actual solution, given that the point of Fleksy is a speed increase.
Cheers
Scottsdale
#140 The only problem
Hi, As mentioned by others, the only problem with the swipe up with two fingers is that, sometimes it will register a character together with the swipe. Just imagine if you are typing a long text and you have to wait till it read the whole text to know if extra character is indeed input, and it is a little annoying. Thank you anyway and congratulations to Fleksy for making such great app.

What's New in Version 1.6.1
New in 1.6.1:
- Check out the INVISIBLE KEYBOARD in the Settings!
- Reduced application size, for faster download
#142 Sharing my thoughts on the latest build of Fleksy
I have had Fleksy since they first dropped the price to $5, I figured it would be worth trying out for that price, only to find out that included the new trial version. I liked it, but it took a bit to load, and it didn't always catch what I was trying to type. However, this latest build since they have made it free, oh my! It loads so fast and smoothly, and the predictability is awesome. I like the built in menu options and use these regularly to text and post to Facebook with Fleksy.
I have submitted my email requesting this be integrated as a keyboard in the iOS and hope the Apple folks choose to do this soon. I've already found myself trying to type like I'm in Fleksy when I need to type in another app. I'm very hooked on the ease and usability of Fleksy.
And, if you have any problems, the folks at Fleksy are very prompt and helpful in getting back with you. What's not to like about this? Great product and great support.
#143 Troubles
I've encountered a bug after one of Fleksy's recent updates and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. This doesn't happen all the time, but it happens a lot and it's pretty annoying. Whenever I go to type a text message and send it, Fleksy should return me back to the main screen where I can enter a new message. However, there are many times where it doesn't and instead it just sort of locks up on me. I'll drag my finger around the screen and it's as if there's nothing there. It just dings at me. I'm forced to shut down the application and restart. Sometimes this will fix the problem, but sadly, sometimes it doesn't and I'll have to restart the app again. Has anyone else experienced this problem? I'm using an iPhone 4 with the latest iOS 5 build. I was hoping one of these more recent Fleksy updates would fix the problem but that hasn't happened. I emailed tech support and there suggestion was to upgrade to iOS 6. Apparently this is an iOS 5 issue so I was curious if anyone else has had this problem. I'm not really interested in updating to iOS 6 with my iPhone 4. I'm just not willing to deal with the probable slowdown I'd experience, iOS 6 bugs, and dealing with the hassle of re-jailbreaking my phone. Maybe if I had a 4S I'd go ahead and do that. Thanks.
#144 Solution
Hi Reebok!
We are working on resolving the iOS 5 bug. It is not trivial, though, as iOS 5 devices are really hard to find and the issue doesn't appear on all of them. Also, jailbreaking adds unpredicted parameters to the equation, parameters we can't anticipate, but also choose not to.
The fastest solution would be for you to upgrade to iOS 6.1.2. It is stable and fast and handles VO much better than iOS 5 did. Also, runs fine on our iPhone 4 devices.
Let us know if we can be of assistance any time.
Regards,
Bill
#145 Damn you, Fleksy!
Again, Fleksy froze and stopped responding, right in the middle of writing a long text that took me 20 minutes to write. Right before typing the last period, it just stopped working... Had no other option than to hit the home key, and then reopen it from app switcher. But when I had it open again, nothing of the text I had written was still there. So I started all over to write it again, and same thing happened, but this time only after 4 - 5 minutes...
This have also happened several times before... It's a pity, because I really love the app, but now I'm at the point where I can't gamble on it working when writing more than 2 or 3 sentences. Would just be a waste of time to put in 10 - 15 minutes to write something, just to have the app freezing on me and deleting all of my written text...
Hope this will be resolved in a future update... Frustrated, but still happy, Cliff
#146 honestly...
personally, i don't see the point of this app at all. it was very slow when i used it, you have to copy paist the text anyway, and i'm not going to pay that much for an app when i can just type with voice over, like i always have done. This is just my opinion and i can see how it may be helpful if your just starting out with voice over, but... for me, it's pointless.
#147 Hi, a new version of this app
Hi,
a new version of this app has come out,
however I would say although the developers feel happy according to the below what's new message, we certainly shouldn't feel happy.
This is because on this latest update the setting to lock fleksy in a particular orientation seems to be completely broken, it doesn't matter what you have it set to the app remains in portrait and doesn't respect your setting.
What I find astounding with this update is that this was a bug also present in the last beta released on April 22nd, and yet fleksy have deliberately released a buggy version, with no warning to there users.
They know of the problem as I reported it to them and got a response along with a fiddly work around for it.
So, I would suggest avoid this update if the orientation setting is important to you.
What's New in Version 1.7
I feel happy today, must be another Fleksy update!
Here's what's new:
- In-App Settings! Pull up the menu and select Settings to customize Fleksy without ever leaving the app.
- Lots of work on accuracy. Expect less swipe downs.
- Improved default dictionary
- Lots of bug fixes.
- Increased responsiveness. Can you tell by how much?
- and finally, back by popular demand: The Tap and hold to invoke the menu gesture! You can use both old and new gesture according to your preference!
Enjoy and don't forget to press that Feedback button and tell us what you want Fleksy to do next!
As always,
Thank you!
- the Fleksy team
The fix for the issue has to be done every time you start fleksy and the info how to do it is taken directly from there email to me.
Start fleksy. It will be in portrait regardless of your orientation lock preference setting.
Invoke the menu and select Settings and then Done. Fleksy will now switch to landscape and stay like that until it restarts.
We will fix this for the next beta.
#148 Fix
Hello Alex and AppleVis,
Thank you for updating the thread and for the feedback. Indeed we are aware of the issue and are already working on it for the next release.
To clarify, the issue appears only on devices locked in portrait. The Fleksy orientation lock will respect your setting if your device is not orientation locked.
Considering the benefits of this update, including in-app settings, the much requested return of the tap and hold to invoke the menu gesture, as well as dramatically increased accuracy and overall stability, we felt the update was worth releasing sooner.
We will have another update coming very soon, with this issue fixed.
Thank you for your patience and significant input. You know we always listen.
Regards,
Bill
#149 Very good update.
Nice improvements, and the orientation lock issue doesn't bug me at all.
#150 Update of Fleksy.
I have to say that as always, Fleksy is apart from Voiceover, the best item on my iPhone. Great and easy to use as always, and I have also been lucky and not had any problems as mentioned above. I am confident though that the developers will resolve the issues, they do keep us up-to-date. Thanks again for a great app.
