Hey Josh. Just want to say you did a great job with his podcast. I had no idea Kodi had a screen reader addon. Can't thank you enough brother, keep up the good work. :-)

Ditto from me. This is an excellent walkthrough. I think I'm sold, but first I want to try out one of these programs to clean out my Mac. Strange things have begun happening. Nothing major, but still I think I want a clean machine.

i installed the screen reader adon, but can't figure out how to start it. I go to the apps folder, click on kodieathen all VO does is busy, then when I hit cmd shift g, and paste in the library/application support thing, i hit enter, and all i get is a noise. no screen reader. What am I doing wrong?

I'm not sure how the author of the Podcast did it, but the screen reader addon works after I turn off Voice Over after opening Kodi.

All of the addons have been accessible for me from Sports Devil to Genesis. How exactly do you mean when you say they're not accessible for you?

Tell me step by step how you installed the addon, please?

Josh here. Some addons I never could get working--NetfliXBMC, for instance. I think there are just some addons that just don't work with Kodi 14, or as they call it in the community, Helix.
I downloaded the SuperRepo repository which makes my addons list waaaaay bigger than it should and I wish there was first letter navigation for that, because there are tons of other repos I could get my hands on via the Kodi wiki or just on the internet.
Some dialogues the screen reader doesn't read either. Pressing C brings up the context menu on any item, whether it be a file or an addon which lets you view more info on it before installing it. The changelog also is not accessible with the screen reader, as far as I can tell.
Still, the fact that a screen reader addon exists is testiment to the power of Kodi addons, so I'm greatful for what we've got. Now imagine this on iOS? That would seriously rock.

I see...well then, it looks like you may be dealing with dead or broken links like the rest of us, because not all links work. The only way to really know if a link will work is to click on it. If nothing happens or if error messages pop up, it is most likely the link is broken or dead. Also, you can quickly navigate to the names of your addons etc by holding down the shift key and pressing the first letter of the name of the addon or menu. Example. to get to Systems from the home screen, just hold down shift and press s. To get to Genesis from the video menu, just hold down shift and press g.

some time has pass and wonder if anyone fine a way for the new version of Kodi to be accessible? because I can not find the download file for the Kodi 14 any where. please help

You don't need a special setup file to install kodi with the screen reader if you follow these instructions.

I've installed Kodi countless times using this method and it has never failed.

Now, this will work with a completely clean install of kodi, in other words, I'm going to assume that kodi hasn't been installed on your system.

I'll be using windows terms to explain things, so you'll need to figure out what keys to press on a mac.

Now, on windows, all your kodi settings are installed in a folder you can get to by opening the run dialogue and typing %appdata%\kodi.

I'm not going to explain each little detail because it's not really needed.

I'm just going to tell you what keys to press once you've launched kodi for the first time.

Go ahead and run kodi for the very first time, now, what you want to do is tap the control key a few times, because the key presses sometimes don't register, particularly when you alt tab to another application, no idea why, it just does.

Once kodi is running, hold down the shift key and press A, then hit enter.

Now, hold downd shift once again, but this time we're going to press the letter D, followed by the enter key.

Now, we're going to again hold down shift, only this time we're going to press the letter S, followed by the enter key.

Now, here's where you really have to pay attention.

Press the down arrow 9 times, you should hear the little click sound as you arrow down.

Once you've arrowed down 9 times, hit enter twice.

That's it, if you followed the instructions exactly, you should have kodi up and running with speech.

If you happen to make a mistake, which I have done countless times before I worked all this out, simply delete the kodi folder that is installed in %appdata% and try again.

Now the reason for the shift key is because those letters on their own do other things, I'm not sure of all of them, so you really do need to use that shift key.

One more thing, I find kodi screen reader works better with the classic Confluence skin, which you can find in the main kodi repository.
