Apple has today released version 26.6 of the iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS platforms, bringing bug fixes, security updates, and optimizations to prepare for the upcoming "27" updates.

Our experience is that the following VoiceOver bug has been resolved in watchOS 26.6:

  • When waking the Apple Watch, VoiceOver once again correctly focuses on the time instead of on the first complication.

Beyond the above, we did not identify any changes in macOS Tahoe 26.6 or watchOS 26.6 that specifically affect the experience for blind, deaf blind, or low vision users. We were unable to test tvOS 26.6. If you notice any further changes, improvements, or regressions in your use of these releases, please post a comment below with your findings.

tvOS 26.6

Release notes for tvOS 26.6 are not available at the time of publication, but we'll update this post if this changes.

How to Update

iOS and iPadOS 26.6 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update), via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or via iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.

Before updating, we strongly recommend making a full and complete backup of your device (either locally or in iCloud, depending on personal preference). This will ensure that, in the unlikely event that something goes wrong during the update process, you will have a current backup on hand in case a device restore becomes necessary. Also, if using OTA update, we recommend plugging your device into a power source for the duration of the download/installation process, so as to prevent the unlikely event of your battery going dead during the update.

To install macOS Tahoe 26.6, choose System Settings from the Apple menu, select General in the table, click Software Update in the scroll area, and click the Update Now button to begin the update process. If other updates are available, you can click the Info button to see details about them and select specific updates to install.

watchOS 26.6 is available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) or by going to the Watch app on your iPhone and navigating to General > Software Update. To install the update, your Watch must be connected to its charger and have at least 50% battery power.

To install tvOS 26.6, on Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, go to the Settings channel, then look for the System section near the bottom. From here, look for Software Updates under Maintenance, then select Update Software and Download and Install. Wait for your Apple TV to download the update. Don’t disconnect or unplug your Apple TV until the update completes.

I updated my Apple TV to version 26.6 as soon as it was released, and unsurprisingly, the audio ducking issue is still not fixed. I wonder if it will be resolved in OS 27?

I can’t update my iPhone SE 2022 yet. It says that I have to turn off low data motor switch Wi-Fi network because it can’t download the update. I’ve never seen that before when I’ve updated the phone and I’ve definitely updated with my iPhone SE using the personal hotspot on my iPhone 15. I guess because this update is dealing with bug fixes. It won’t allow me too. It’s not a big deal though. I’ll just wait till I’m back in Wi-Fi on Friday. I’ll update the iPhone 15 later and I have to give it a little bit more battery power first. They never tell you this on the post. I just seem that you must have at least like 50% battery or something on iPhones to update them because if it’s lower than that, it doesn’t let you update. I know this because I’ve tried before. So that may be something to mention in the future update blood post :-) I’ll come back. I’m here. Let you guys know how this update is once I get to it.

Do a restart, it might help.

OK, thanks. I’ll try that and then I’ll come back down here and let you guys know.

Restart worked. Thanks for suggesting that. I was able to update my iPhone SE 2022. It looks good so far. I’ll update the iPhone 15 later on.

For me the battery is not that great. 16 pro max. Better on iOS 26.5.2.

I just updated my iPhone 15. Everything looks good. Just wanted to come back on here to let you guys know that both of my devices were successfully updated and they look good.

As stated in the support article linked in the release notes, performance and battery life may be temporarily impacted following installation of an update. This is typically due to post-installation maintenance tasks that are performed in the background and should resolve when such tasks are complete. If you continue to notice slower than expected performance or higher than expected battery usage after the device has been plugged in for several hours and has had the chance to charge to 100%, restarting it may cause them to return to pre-update levels. If they don't, it's possible that these issues are caused by bugs/inefficiencies in the software or changes to your specific configuration that the update introduced.

I haven’t seen any battery performance issues, but I’m on a regular iPhone 15. It may be different with the pro models. I hope you get these issues resolved soon. Having a battery life with less performance isn’t great. I’ve never had a pro phone so I’m not sure if those were running a bit differently. I just had my regular iPhone 15 and my iPhone iPhone SE 2022 is my secondary device which I’m literally using like an iPod. Everything looks good here so far. I mean, I know this was just a security update but you just never know with updates. Hopefully people aren’t having too many issues with this.

I updated days ago and the battery on my 16e is terrible now. Constantly overheating and only holding a charge for half as long as it did before the update. The battery health is going down suddenly, too. It was at 94% before the update and now it's at 92%. I'm not usually the conspiracy sort but I know Apple got in trouble for making older phones perform worse on purpose with updates. I am not convinced they aren't still doing that sometimes.

For those complaining about battery life, if you're on an apple intelligence capable phone, I expect it's the indexing happening in the background preparing for ios27. Give it a week or 2.

Check your settings for it, I notice it turn it off when I updated. Nuts. Apple does not like me, it shows by turning off hay Siri. Not nice apple.
