Apple has today released version 26.6 of the iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS platforms, bringing bug fixes, security updates, and optimizations to prepare for the upcoming "27" updates.

Our experience is that the following VoiceOver bug has been resolved in watchOS 26.6:

  • When waking the Apple Watch, VoiceOver once again correctly focuses on the time instead of on the first complication.

Beyond the above, we did not identify any changes in macOS Tahoe 26.6 or watchOS 26.6 that specifically affect the experience for blind, deaf blind, or low vision users. We were unable to test tvOS 26.6. If you notice any further changes, improvements, or regressions in your use of these releases, please post a comment below with your findings.

tvOS 26.6

Release notes for tvOS 26.6 are not available at the time of publication, but we'll update this post if this changes.

How to Update

iOS and iPadOS 26.6 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update), via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or via iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.

Before updating, we strongly recommend making a full and complete backup of your device (either locally or in iCloud, depending on personal preference). This will ensure that, in the unlikely event that something goes wrong during the update process, you will have a current backup on hand in case a device restore becomes necessary. Also, if using OTA update, we recommend plugging your device into a power source for the duration of the download/installation process, so as to prevent the unlikely event of your battery going dead during the update.

To install macOS Tahoe 26.6, choose System Settings from the Apple menu, select General in the table, click Software Update in the scroll area, and click the Update Now button to begin the update process. If other updates are available, you can click the Info button to see details about them and select specific updates to install.

watchOS 26.6 is available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) or by going to the Watch app on your iPhone and navigating to General > Software Update. To install the update, your Watch must be connected to its charger and have at least 50% battery power.

To install tvOS 26.6, on Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, go to the Settings channel, then look for the System section near the bottom. From here, look for Software Updates under Maintenance, then select Update Software and Download and Install. Wait for your Apple TV to download the update. Don’t disconnect or unplug your Apple TV until the update completes.

I updated my Apple TV to version 26.6 as soon as it was released, and unsurprisingly, the audio ducking issue is still not fixed. I wonder if it will be resolved in OS 27?

I can’t update my iPhone SE 2022 yet. It says that I have to turn off low data motor switch Wi-Fi network because it can’t download the update. I’ve never seen that before when I’ve updated the phone and I’ve definitely updated with my iPhone SE using the personal hotspot on my iPhone 15. I guess because this update is dealing with bug fixes. It won’t allow me too. It’s not a big deal though. I’ll just wait till I’m back in Wi-Fi on Friday. I’ll update the iPhone 15 later and I have to give it a little bit more battery power first. They never tell you this on the post. I just seem that you must have at least like 50% battery or something on iPhones to update them because if it’s lower than that, it doesn’t let you update. I know this because I’ve tried before. So that may be something to mention in the future update blood post :-) I’ll come back. I’m here. Let you guys know how this update is once I get to it.

Do a restart, it might help.

By Singer Girl on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 - 15:59

OK, thanks. I’ll try that and then I’ll come back down here and let you guys know.

By Singer Girl on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 - 16:33

Restart worked. Thanks for suggesting that. I was able to update my iPhone SE 2022. It looks good so far. I’ll update the iPhone 15 later on.

For me the battery is not that great. 16 pro max. Better on iOS 26.5.2.

By Singer Girl on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 - 21:37

I just updated my iPhone 15. Everything looks good. Just wanted to come back on here to let you guys know that both of my devices were successfully updated and they look good.

As stated in the support article linked in the release notes, performance and battery life may be temporarily impacted following installation of an update. This is typically due to post-installation maintenance tasks that are performed in the background and should resolve when such tasks are complete. If you continue to notice slower than expected performance or higher than expected battery usage after the device has been plugged in for several hours and has had the chance to charge to 100%, restarting it may cause them to return to pre-update levels. If they don't, it's possible that these issues are caused by bugs/inefficiencies in the software or changes to your specific configuration that the update introduced.

By Singer Girl on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 - 22:50

I haven’t seen any battery performance issues, but I’m on a regular iPhone 15. It may be different with the pro models. I hope you get these issues resolved soon. Having a battery life with less performance isn’t great. I’ve never had a pro phone so I’m not sure if those were running a bit differently. I just had my regular iPhone 15 and my iPhone iPhone SE 2022 is my secondary device which I’m literally using like an iPod. Everything looks good here so far. I mean, I know this was just a security update but you just never know with updates. Hopefully people aren’t having too many issues with this.

I updated days ago and the battery on my 16e is terrible now. Constantly overheating and only holding a charge for half as long as it did before the update. The battery health is going down suddenly, too. It was at 94% before the update and now it's at 92%. I'm not usually the conspiracy sort but I know Apple got in trouble for making older phones perform worse on purpose with updates. I am not convinced they aren't still doing that sometimes.

By jim pickens on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 - 09:36

For those complaining about battery life, if you're on an apple intelligence capable phone, I expect it's the indexing happening in the background preparing for ios27. Give it a week or 2.

By Holger Fiallo on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 - 19:01

Check your settings for it, I notice it turn it off when I updated. Nuts. Apple does not like me, it shows by turning off hay Siri. Not nice apple.

By Singer Girl on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - 01:40

I turned that feature off a long time ago. It’s so dumb that when you’re watching a YouTube video it figures the assistant if it hears a word that remotely sounds like its name. It’s really crazy. I was having this issue with my iPad mini six generation as well. So I turned off the feature on that and my iPhone SE third generation and my iPhone 15. If that trigger wasn’t happening, I probably would’ve left the feature on. That is really weird that it showed off after your update though. Very strange. I mean it is off by default, but it shouldn’t have turned off yours if that’s how you had it set up. Very strange I could see that happening with like a major iOS but for something like this, it’s just a security that doesn’t really make sense. I’ve experienced something really weird ever since iOS 26.4. I can no longer download to my phone unless I’m actually on Wi-Fi. That didn’t happen at all before I was able to download over hotspot or cellular data. I can’t do either one now have to be an actual Wi-Fi. It’s not anything I’ve bothered report to Apple because it doesn’t make the phone unusable so I waited. I put the voice voices on my phone that I want to download it now and they’re fine just thought it was a weird issue. I’m not sure if anybody else is seedless. Hopefully, we’ll get some new voices to play around with 27. I was 26.6 looks good on both of my devices.

By Holger Fiallo on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - 07:54

No issues with activating by mistake. regarding voices, only for Siri on 17 pro and up. Those of us who got 16 pro max will not get it. RAM true? Only apple knows. They know I have 16 and they do not like me.

It is such a relief to hear the time instead of watch widget microphone all the time. I am using the original Watch Ultra and had been worried that I was going to be stuck with this forever given I'm not getting the next major update. So finally I can tell the time again on my watch. The wonders of the modern age.

By Singer Girl on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - 10:24

You’re lucky that you’ve never had the Siri accidentally activating while you’re in the middle of watching something. It would do that if it heard a word that sounded remotely close to its own name. Granted that was a few iOS to go so maybe I can try it again and see if it’s improved, but that was why I shut the feature off. I’m glad that you got your watch bugs fixed too. Yeah I’m still kind of surprised at how many watches got dropped this year for iOS 27. It’s weird.

By Holger Fiallo on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - 12:30

Since iOS 26.5 VO sometimes repeats notification, notification, pressing the crown does not stop it, even pressing the side button. Have to ask Siri to restart device. It happens in a blue moon. It is not regular. watch 11and OS 26.6. Hope people are not dealing with this bug. Also hope OS 27 fixes it.

By Bingo Little on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - 12:39

How do I tell, folks, whether indexing is happening? Is there somewhere I can look and see the message: keep the faith, old lad, your iPhone is indexing and all will be well by the autumn?

By Lee on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - 12:45

Not sure about 26.6 but in the PB of 27 it showed up in settings as a direct button. Only know that because after 3 days it was still showing in settings with no sign of completing! Went back to 26 as for the first time ever didn't like the bugs in the PB1 of 27. So, check under settings maybe in the same place.

By Holger Fiallo on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - 13:07

I do not think there is away in 26. Perhaps the low battery all the time.

By longma on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - 15:16

Hello everyone, I am using an iPhone 17 Pro. Although this is currently the latest iPhone, I clearly felt a drop in performance in versions 26.5 and 26.5.2; for example, there was a significant change in battery life throughout the day, and the iPhone often became very hot. However, all of this was resolved after I updated to version 26.6. Over the past two days, my iPhone has returned to the state it was in at the beginning of this year, and everything is working perfectly.

By Holger Fiallo on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - 16:09

Plumber to fix shower, the same price of an iPhone. This is why when bugs are not address ASAP and last over year, it is major pain.

By burak on Thursday, July 30, 2026 - 20:36

I believe it tells you that it's indexing in battery settings.
