Apple has seeded the first beta version of iOS 4.3 to developers.

The iOS 4.3 beta is available in versions for iPad, iPhone 4 and 3GS, and third and fourth generation iPod touch, as well as a separate download for the new Apple TV. Consequently, there is some speculation that Apple will no longer be supporting the iPhone 3G and second generation iPod touch with operating system updates. The Guide Dogs for the Blind Association in the UK are set to launch their own iPhone app in the next few weeks.

The new app will highlight local areas for dog walking and also perform various other functions such as  acting as a GPS for tracking walking routes.

Within the last few minutes, iOS 4.0.2 for iPhone 3G, 3GS, 4, and iPod touch 2nd and 3rd generation (late 2009 models with 32 or 64 GB) has become available for download. In addition, the iPad has received an update to iOS 3.2.2.

The updates fix a security vulnerability that was associated with viewing malicious PDF files. It doesn't appear that there are any fixes to any other issues (i.e., the proximity sensor glitch), but the fix to the PDF exploit insures that the iOS platform...

Shape Services committed Wednesday to make its flagship IM+ instant messaging application for the iPhone accessible to blind people by way of Apple's built-in VoiceOver screen reader.

The following information was provided by BookShare to one of the subscribers to the VIPhone mailing list:

"At this point we don't provide ePub as it violates the Chafee
amendment requiring that books be "distributed in specialized formats
exclusively for use by blind or other persons with disabilities." If
and when we open up Bookshare to non-Chafee membership we can consider
this format."

A new low cost daisy reader for the iPhone has been released.

DaisyWorm was developed by the Association for the Blind of Western Australia and Curtin University of Technology. It is a simple yet powerful DAISY audio book reader app for the Apple iPhone supporting the 2.02, 2002 and 2005 formats
with full or partial audio.
