On occasion, VoiceOver can become unresponsive when attempting to use the two-finger double-tap ("Magic Tap") gesture to answer an incoming phone call.

VoiceOver crashes when attempting to navigate the Sounds settings, particularly when attempting to change a ringtone.

VoiceOver does not announce the current selection status of the Love and Dislike buttons on the More menu located on the Mini Player of the native Music app

VoiceOver does not announce the selection status when adding people or apps to the allowed notifications list of a Focus mode.

  1. Ensure that VoiceOver is enabled.
  2. Open the Settings app and navigate to Screen Time > Device Usage Summary.
  3. Place VoiceOver focus on the first element on this screen.
  4. Flick right with 1 finger until VoiceOver focus lands on the ā€˜hourly pickups data (for example ā€œ4 per hourā€.
  5. Flick right with 1 finger.

I would expect VoiceOver focus to move to the data which is presented here graphically, and then speak the data as you move focus through it.

If you are playing audio through an external device, the "Playback Destination" button on the Mini Player screen of the native Music app no longer includes the name of the destination device (although this information is visually present on screen, it is not spoken by VoiceOver).

When navigating a canvas in Freeform, VoiceOver announces the types of items in focus, like file or website, but does not speak their names. In order to identify the item in focus, you must double-tap to open it.

  3. Open the Messages app.
  4. Double-tap with 1 finger on the Compose button.

  6. Check that the VoiceOver rotor is set to its Actions menu.
  7. Set the VoiceOver rotor Actions menu to the Edit menu.
  8. Flick up with 1 finger until VoiceOver says ā€œPasteā€.
  9. Double-tap with 1 finger.

You should find that the text on the clipboard has been pasted in to the message field.

  1. Ensure that VoiceOver is enabled and the Watch app installed.
  2. Open the Watch app and navigate to Mail > Include Mail.
  3. Move VoiceOver focus through the folders and email accounts available on this screen for selection.

As you move VoiceOver focus, VoiceOver should provide feedback on which items are selected. It does not.

If you double-tap on an item, VoiceOver should provide feedback on the new selection status of this item. It does not.

If you activate the listen button in the Translate application, and instead of speaking flick around the screen, you will notice a text field which is dimmed (logical since you are dictating the text), a close button to dismiss the listen screen as well as an element Voiceover does not speak and it does not seem to do anything when activated.

When using the VoiceOver rotor to mark an email as read in the iOS Mail app, VoiceOver fails to provide clear confirmation feedback. Instead of announcing "read" to confirm the action, VoiceOver speaks an unclear and incomprehensible phrase. This results in a confusing experience for VoiceOver users who rely on the screen reader to understand the results of their actions.

We have not tested this behaviour against all VoiceOver voices, but it has been consistent across the voices that we have tested.

VoiceOver no longer announces the time when the device wakes if there are pending notifications. Instead, it only states the number of notifications present.

This differs from previous iOS versions where VoiceOver would always announce the time upon wake, even with notifications. Omitting the time announcement is inconsistent with user expectations and removes useful context.

Upon first restarting an iOS device with Touch ID enabled, the user is required to enter the deviceā€™s passcode before Touch ID can be used. In iOS 7, if a user attempted to unlock the device using Touch ID immediately after a restart, VoiceOver would automatically announce that a passcode was necessary to unlock the device. In iOS 8, however, VoiceOver no longer automatically announces this informationā€”potentially leaving the user confused as to why Touch ID does not work.

When on the Mini Player in the native Music app, VoiceOver will speak screen elements which are not actually present on the screen or actionable at the time.

Exactly what these ā€˜phantomā€™ elements will be, will depend upon which tab of the Music app you were viewing before loading the Mini Player.

These elements will be located in two locations on the screen:

After performing a search in the App Store, VoiceOver will behave as if the list of Trending Searches is present at the end of the list of search results. This is not the case; this list is not visually present on screen, and apps reported by VoiceOver as being in this list cannot be accessed. Note that the list of Trending Searches is present and works as expected before you perform a search.

If you have multiple locations added to the native Weather app, VoiceOver focus may wrongly switch away from the currently selected one when swiping through the last elements on the weather details screen.

On some web pages in Safari; web views in apps; and some pages in apps, you may find that VoiceOver focus will spontaneously ā€˜jumpā€™ to a different UI element.

This behaviour does not appear to be widespread, but can make navigation difficult and confusing when it does occur.

One example of this behaviour in Safari can be seen with Google search results when using the VoiceOver rotor to navigate by heading.

  1. Ensure that VoiceOver is enabled.

  3. Place VoiceOver focus on the first element on this screen.
  4. Flick right with 1 finger until VoiceOver focus lands on the ā€˜Total timeā€™ element (for example ā€œTotal time, one hour, thirty-one minutes, usage is fourteen minutes above averageā€.
  5. Flick right with 1 finger.

I would expect VoiceOver focus to move to the data which is presented here graphically.

In the Featured Tab of the App Store, VoiceOver focus will loop continually through a carousel of highlighted items displayed near the top of the page if you simply try to swipe through the page.

When using the Find My app with VoiceOver, the focus is erratic when trying to use to locate people or devices. Focus will erratically jump around making using the app very difficult if not unusable.

It is likely that this behavior is the result of the app updating the location data for listed people and devices. Accordingly, the more people and devices you have listed in the app, the more erratic will be the behaviour of VoiceOver focus.
