In some circumstances, VoiceOver sound effects (such as sounds which indicate movement of the VoiceOver cursor or activation of an element) stop working.

On the Recents tab of the Phone app,VoiceOver speaks extraneous text.

For example, VoiceOver will say “David user_label_primary” instead of saying “David Mobile”.

It appears that this extraneous text is not visually displayed on the screen, so this behavior is presumably related to VoiceOver labelling of page elements.

VoiceOver speech may stop or fade out while reading text inserted into a text field using Dictation. This issue appears to be limited to that particular use case, and swiping or touching the screen will bring back speech as normal.

VoiceOver speech output spontaneously stops and requires a wait of about 30 seconds to resume. The issue is not specific to certain apps or actions and occurs without any clear pattern. Restarting VoiceOver can help, but it may take a couple of cycling of VoiceOver for this to work. The issue only affects the VoiceOver voice and not other VoiceOver audible feedback. The issue appears to affect many VoiceOver voices, including Alex, Eloquence, Ava, and Siri.

An intermittent bug can cause VoiceOver speech to stop after ending a phone call, while sound effects remain. There is no clear pattern as to when this issue occurs. Similar behaviour has also been reported when using WhatsApp.

When configuring the Action Button on iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, VoiceOver users may experience inconsistent focus behaviour in locating the button used to select the desired option for an available function.

The Action Button settings screen contains multiple pages, one for each function like Focus mode. Certain function pages have a configuration button to select options for that function. For example, the Focus mode page has a button to pick which Focus mode to use.

When using the swipe gesture to move through a active elements, you may occasionally find that VoiceOver suddenly starts to take 3-5 seconds to speak after you move focus to an item.

Once this behaviour presents itself, it typically becomes quite prevalent. Although it may not occur every time that you swipe after the problem first appears, it does become very frequent. For example, it swiping through a list, you may typically find that this problem occurs on every other item.

When using the App Switcher to switch between apps, you may on occasions find that VoiceOver will not speak the names of apps.

Typically VoiceOver will behave as expected when you move focus through the first 2-3 apps in the App Switcher, but then stop speaking app names.

VoiceOver will on occasions wrongly indicate that some blocks of text are editable text fields, resulting in VoiceOver speaking feedback such as “text field, editing“, “double tap to edit” or “character mode” before speaking the text.

Typically, this behavior only occurs on the first paragraph when navigating by swiping, but may occur more frequently if navigating by touch.

This is most prevalent in Safari, but has also been encountered in several other apps.

When searching the App Store, the Clear button will remove any previous search from the text field, but VoiceOver will continue to read what was previously entered in the search field … even after you enter a completely new search. The same happens if you delete characters individually.

The VoiceOver image description feature, which generates a text description of images focused on with VoiceOver, will periodically stop functioning. When this occurs, VoiceOver will only announce "image" rather than generating a description. Restarting VoiceOver or the device may temporarily resolve the problem, but the issue recurs periodically.

When connected over USB only, inputting text in contracted braille is challenging due to the fact that many contractions are not being interpreted correctly. These often have to do with symbols before words. For example, when typing the word "some" in contracted braille, one must use dot 5 followed by the letter s. Instead of interpreting dot 5 followed by s correctly, it is interpreted as "so". This is the contraction for the letter s by itself. Other examples include father, mother, part, there, their, young and so forth.

The Alert Messages function behaves as indicated in the subject. This is prominantly displayed by going from any app to your Home Screen. When you do so, "home" will continue to be displayed in braille even though VoiceOver has focus set to a specific app.

To reproduce this behaviour there will need to be an iOS update available for your device.

  1. Ensure that VoiceOver is enabled.
  2. Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update
  3. Perform a 4 finger single tap on the top half of the screen so as to place VoiceOver focus on to the first UI element on this screen.
  4. Flick right with 1 finger repeatedly to move VoiceOver focus through all page elements.

You should find that VoiceOver focus ‘skips’ the element which states the size of the download.

When attempting to add an existing photo to a message in the Messages app, the grid of available photos cannot be located or navigated by swiping, only by touch.

When typing on a Perkins-Style keyboard, if input is set to contracted braille while output is set to uncontracted typing contractions will not function as expected. Found to be happening in Messages and Mail. The braille tables tested were UEB System, UEB Liblouis and US System

When browsing the list of speakers and TVs available as playback destinations, VoiceOver does not recognise or speak the graphic which indicates the type of device.

Consequently, if you have both a speaker and an Apple TV in the same room, there is no feedback from VoiceOver as to which is which - both will have the same label, e.g. “Bedroom”.

When composing an email reply or a lengthy message, the cursor will jump around from time to time which will insert words in some random places.
