I haven't seen this mentioned anywhere, so I thought a small post was in order.
Since the latest version of watchOS; you can change speaking rate easily by pressing the crown to get to Home Screen and just flick up or down with one finger to change the rate; that is the screen that shows all the aps. I ran into this one by mistake when doing something on the watch and I did something and it slowed down. If it could slow down, then there had to be a way to speed it up again and it was soon found. It is good that this is doable without the phone having to be used.
So, is this old news?

VoiceOver rotor?
Sounds to me like you are simply making use of the VoiceOver rotor which was added to watchOS this fall, in which case using the Digital Crown isn't necessary, as it's available on all screens.
New better way to change VoiceOver speaking rate
Yes, you're right about the rotor; gives you even more options.
Rotor control
This is a feature accessible through the rotor gesture. It can be performed anywhere in watchOS.
Rotor not working
I can’t seem to get the rotor gesture to work. I just got this series 6. It was working fine on my series 4 on WatchOS 7.2. Any thoughts?
