Description of App

Please note: This app is for licensed Amateur Radio operators only. See www.echolink.org for more information.

EchoLink for iOS provides access to the EchoLink network for validated EchoLink users. You can use this app to connect to the EchoLink system from almost anywhere, using an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

If you are not already a validated EchoLink user, you will be required to register (using your Amateur Radio callsign and a password of your choice) the first time you run the app. Please see the iPhone FAQ at www.echolink.org.

Accessibility Comments

EchoLink is a fully-accessible way for blind amateur radio operators to access the FM world above 50 MHz when they can't get on the air with a radio or they want easy worldwide communication. Use the magic tap (two-finger double-tap) gesture with VoiceOver enabled, or the remote (play / pause) button on wired earpods, to start and stop transmitting.

I have had this app on my iPhone since it was first released. Only once was there a problem and it was fixed quickly by the developers.

I'm not sure if it's still active, but there used to be a remote HF tranciever that you could use through EchoLink. You controlled it through the text chat window where you enter commands. The gentleman who ran it was N8AD in Erie PA. True, most of the activity is 50 MHZ and higher, but there are a few exceptions to the rule.
Also, I'd like to add that there is a Blind Hams network which have a nets every Saturday morning at 10 AM Eastern US time on KE4DYI-L.

This App is great, but I do have one annoying problem. The App description says the earphone play, pause button should act like aPTT button. I am not able to make this function work with any headphones I use. Is this a bug, or is there something I need to do to make it work? Also neither a one finger, or a two finger double tap will activate the transmit button on the screen. Finding that transmit button on a busy net is quite difficult for me. I am using an IPad Mini fifth generation running IOS 14.4, with standard Apple earpods wired with the lightning connectter. I have also tried Bose QC35 bluetooth headphones.
