Greetings, all!
So... as I was looking through my apps to update them, I seen that Messenger introduced a new thing called soundmojis. Naturally, I immediately jumped on this, since from what I understood from the explanation that was given in the release notes, they seem like a form of accessible GIF, but with emojis and sound effects and music. So, as you can imagine, I can't wait to try this out, especially because I'm a person who loves using emojis in every thing from messages to family and friends, to emails. Another reason is because of my statement above. To me, from what I understood, they seem like a form of accessible GIF. just with emoji sound effects and music.
So, has anyone tried them out yet? How accessible are they? Where would you find them?
In my opinion, I really hope this takes off. Plus, I hope that eventually, they open it up for 3rd parties to make their own, just like they can do with GIF.s and stickers. Because if that happens, then not only could we have a fun new way of using emojis, but, I also think, that this could be a real boone for us blind people who use Messenger. Although I also hope that other messaging apps will pick up on this as well.
Anyway, sorry for the longwinded post. I just wanted to see what if any experience you guys have had with them, and also what you all think!

My experience
So, as far as finding them, you'll press the button labeled "Open Suggested Tab, Stickers and Two Others" just to the right of the text field. Once that's opened, you'll see the 4 tabs which, when pressed, will take you to either Suggested, Stickers, GIFs and SoundMojis. You'll double tap SoundMojis, whereupon you'll see several emojis in a grid. Double tapping on them will play one of several sounds associated with each emoji. That's as far as I got. For the life of me I can't figure out how to send one once you have it selected.
wow, ok, thank you!
Wow! Thank you! I can't wait to try this out!
If I figure out how to send one, I'll come back here. At least, if I can tell you how to do it. lol Because we've all had @ least one time in our lives where we've figured out how to do something, but, for the life of us, we don't know how we did it, nor can we explain how we did to anyone.
Can't wait to try these out with my family! They'll probably think I'm crazy at least @ first. lol
I've figured it out!
I have figured it out! I've had my eureka moment so to speak.
So, here's how.
1. Go to messenger.
2. Open up a conversation, or start a new one.
3. Go to the suggest tab, tap on it, and then tap the soundmojis.
4. Then cycle through them. You could double-tap them to select and play them. I'll admit the list is not extensive, but I like the ones they've got so far!
5. Once you have the sound you're happy with, then swipe back to the left, until you hear a button that says send. Once you hear that button, double-tap on it, and it will send the sound!
I just tried this with a friend of mine. I checked, and it said I sent the sound, I used the drum with drumsticks to illustrate something in our conversation. And I double-tapped on it, and it played it. So, from my end it seems to be working normally, like it should.
Again, thanks for your help! I hope this helps you, and other curious people who might wayt to try these out! I can't wait to hear what others opinion's on this, and just what they think about it in general.
I figured it out too.
It's a lot of fun, even though there aren't so many emojis yet to choose from. I also posted a video about it, which you can find if you're a member of the iPhone and iPad apps for the blind and visually impaired group on Facebook.
Thanks. I thought I'd…
Thanks. I thought I'd figured it out, but it appeared to work for a group chat but not for an individual message. Oh boy, I have a great idea, but it's the middle of the night and I don't want to disturb anyone. Hehehehhe!
Interesting but
Hi All,
Is this only available in the US? I'm in the UK and ccan't for the life of me find these options. V321.0 which I think is the latest version.
I'm not sure
Hi there Lee!
I'm not quite sure of availability. Partly, because I live in the US. and also partly, because I hadn't heard anything about this feature until I looked at Fb. Messenger's release notes. Maybe someone else here can confirm availability internationally. I'm sorry I can't help. If it's unavailable, then hopefully it will make it to your country.
I'll have to
Wow! I think I am a member of that FB. group. I'll have to go and check that video out!
Yes, the list of options is quite short, I will agree with you there. However, I will also agree with you that it is a lot of fun! Plus, I'm sure the next update will roll out more.
It'sn't available
Hi, in Israel i don't see it. I think that it'sn't available internationally.
Seems Cool
Hi. I just updated messenger today and this feature seems cool. Yes, the list of options is short but fun. I still need to play around with them.
Check for updates
I played around with them and they are so so. Most of them to me don't make much sense, by that I mean the music clips. But we'll see if this takes off or not. I can only imagine the sound emoji my guy and I can send back and forth. ;) As for the international people, keep looking for your updates it might not be out yet.
It only seems to show up…
It only seems to show up after you have already sent a message.
So you can't just open a conversation and start sending sounds, because when I tested it on myself, yes, you can message yourself, the option only appeared after sending a message.
It won't work for empty chats.
Wow, thanks for the tip
Wow, thanks for the tip. I’ll have to keep that in mind when messaging someone. I got a message to myself a timer to as well. :-)
I found this feature in a…
I found this feature in a group chat but not for single messages. I can't find any suggested tab anywhere.
Hi there. I've looked on the…
Hi there. I've looked on the group and I can't find your video. Could you please message me the link? I'm also new to the Facebook and Messenger apps and I'm doing pretty well, but obviously not well enough if I can't find these sounds.
Nice
Hi. Thanks so much for reporting on this. Can't wait to start using it. Glad that this developer / developers made this available. :-)
Tried these out
I tried these out the other day and they're pretty cool. Seem to work between people and groups, not Facebook pages. I was gonna send a sound effect to a page and could not.
It should be
It should be right by the compose box. Right before the send a message button. Don’t worry. :-) You’ll get the hang of it! :-) It took me a while to get the hang of how to use Facebook and messenger myself. And then, just when you have it figured out, don’t update it. Lol
I love it!
I love it! :-) I played with it for a little bit the night I found it. And then the next day, me and a cited family member played around with it for at least an hour! We had so much fun with that thing! :-) I can’t wait to show it to another sighted family member, who I know will love it!
Oh wow
Oh wow! Thanks for the tip! I didn’t know that. Hopefully, that changes soon. Or maybe there’s a setting that the page has to turn on for that to be excepted. I don’t know much about actual pages.
Thanks, but I explored the…
Thanks, but I explored the whole screen and it wasn't there.
sound emoji or sticker
isn't it sound just like the sound sticker in Line app? but thank you I will check it out.
not too much to choose
I tried it afew times yesterday. and it is not difficult to sue.
and I think it is not too much to choose.
maybe later it will have some more?
who knows..
Pretty good, once you send…
Pretty good, once you send someone a message first. Disappointing, because you can send all the inaccessible unlabeled emojis you want without sending a typed message first. If they'd fix that, it would be perfect.
International availability
Hi everyone, I can't confirm anything about the status of international availability of this feature, but here in Malaysia, I can access it just fine, I also tested it with some friends on both iOS and Android, it works well too.
But few things, the send button could definitely be made easier to find, and also, I found out an inconsistent behaviour of the feature, where it would appear on one group chat but not the other, strange, but yeah, it's a thing on my end, probably have something to do with some members not yet up to date with their Messenger app.
Really cool
This feature is pretty neat. Facebook will most likely be adding more sounds to the collection in future. I'm also hoping that there will be opportunities for third-party developers to create their own, as well as an accessible app or method for blind users to contribute to the sound library also.
