Klemens here, I'm an iOS developer from Austria. Maybe some of you know me for Letter Rooms or Subwords, two accessible word puzzlers on the App Store.

I'm here today to announce the Ancient Board Game Collection. The game lets you discover games like Hnefatafl, played by a thousand years ago by Vikings, or Latrunculi, a game from Ancient Rome.

The Ancient Board Game Collection comes with a local and online multiplayer, plus a training mode where you can compete against an AI. Everything is accessible through VoiceOver and VoiceControl, and all game boards are freely zoomable. It will be a free download, to enable you to play the multiplayer with friends without both of you having to buy the game. There will be an In-App-Purchase (1.99$) to unlock all the features of the game.

The game will release in May, but you can already Pre-Order it today on the App Store! Here is the link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ancient-board-game-collection/id1510226148

That's about it. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them!

All the best, Klemens

Hi Blue!

Thanks for offering your help! I actually do have VoiceOver testers, but any help is welcome. So send me a private message with your Mail address and I can add you to the TestFlight beta!

Hi Ming!

Yes there are sounds and visuals in the game!

Sounds: The game has a main theme in the menus, some ambiance sounds during the gameplay and soundeffects throughout the whole game.

Visuals: Every game in the collection has been designed by a designer from the country of the games origin; and its design is based on art from that country. So for example Hnefatafl has been designed by Albina Lind from Sweden and is based on Viking Rune Stones. Or Bagh-Chal has been designed by Pranuj Shreshtha from Nepal and is based on art from Buddhist temples.

Hope that answers the question!

Hello.
This looks amazing. I noticed you translated the games into like 8 languages.
questions from a fellow app dev: where did you find your translators? Are you using a service out there for pay or how did you get it going? thanks.

Will this be a subscription-based product or a one time in app purchase?

Hi techluver!

Thank you very much 🙇‍♂️
So I do English and German myself, as I speak those two. For most other languages, I get help from friends from different regions. If they don't have a lot of time to help me out, I start by throwing everything through DeepL.com, as this gives you pretty useable results already. They then just read through everything and correct stuff. For Portuguese though, I have a professional localizer helping me. That's pretty expensive, but he does great work.
Hope that helps at least a bit!
Would also be interested in your workflow, if you have any experience with localizations!

Best,
Klemens

That makes sense. The only thing I can add is 2 things:
1. there's a company translated.com which will do IOS localizations in a "throw the file at them, pay some money and have it spit out" kind of way. Results may very though lol and they are a bit expensive.
2. there's a service called localazy that I use but it's kinda weird. Works for my use case but relies too much on machine translation for my taste.
