Problem replying to message in Outlook

iOS and iPadOS

Hi, I recently started using Outlook on an ipad and am having problems replying to a message. I have trouble finding the button to send my reply. To find the reply box I move to the bottom of the screen to the tabs and swipe left a few times until I find the reply box and double-tap. The keyboard appears and I type my message. After that I move my finger around the screen until I find buttons like for taking a photo or attaching a meeting, then I swipe right a few times until I find the button to send. But there are problems because I can't consistly find those buttons by dragging my finger around and it seems like if I try to find them by swiping quite often the keyboard disappears and the reply box needs expanding again. Now I'm typing a message and have found the buttons for taking a photo e.t.c. but cannot find a send button. Has anyone any ideas?

I prefer to navigate Outlook on my iPad using gestures when I'm in multi-tasking mode. In my opinion, it's a lot easier to use with keyboard shortcuts. If I'm using my iPad as a tablet, this is what I do:

I basically just touch the very bottom of the screen and flick to search and/or calendar and then drag my finger up to the reply options. Once in that screen, I return to the aforementioned area to locate the message body and flick left and right, as appropriate. I sometimes need to hide my keyboard so that I can return to the search/calendar tabs to go back up to locate send.

Hope this helps!

Thanks and what's multi-tasking mode?

Hi and thanks for the info. What is multi-tasking mode please? I mean is that a specific thing on the ipad or just a phrase you're using regarding your own multi-tasking :-) I'm not yet familiar with any ipad-specific modes/concepts but I'm used to using an iPhone...

Multi-tasking mode is an iPad-only feature that places two apps side by side, either in split screen mode or slide over mode. Slide over mode, as I understand it, is one or more floating windows behind the main app in focus. Not super great to navigate for VO users, but great for sighted people.

I like pulling up content in split screen mode because it's like having two apps in portrait mode side by side, and as a keyboard user, I can type in my text editor of choice when reviewing another document without needing to switch from one app to another. I then use muscle memory to return to the text that I am reviewing when I'm done typing.

You can access this feature by double tapping it on the very end of status bar if the app supports multi-tasking mode). Sorry, I can't remember exactly how it's labeled because I tune everything out, but you'll know it when you see it.

  • Tap app) multi-tasking mode
  • Tap split screen view at the end of status bar
  • VO will say: "create split screen view with open app)" or something like that
  • To full screen your app, I find it easiest to close an app in the app switcher

Hope this helps and good luck!
