Hi Guys just installed iOS 16.1 public beta 4 and now notifications are no longer read out on the locked screen. VoiceOver simply advises you have a notification. Checked settings and notification previews are still turned on. Works as expected when screen is unlocked.

If you experience a bug in Apple Beta Software, the most important thing you can do is to file a report in Feedback Assistant. Please do not assume that Apple is already aware of a bug or that your report won't make a difference; your report may provide crucial information, and submitting bug reports directly to Apple helps them reproduce and resolve the issue faster. The more reports they receive, the higher the priority Apple is likely to give to fixing the bug.

If you are using beta software, please use the Feedback Assistant on your device to submit feedback and bug reports. If you are using a public release, this blog post explains how to report the issue and what information to include.

In 2025, AppleVis launched the Community Bug Reporting Program with the goal of improving the quality and quantity of information we share with the community about bugs in Apple software releases. If you would like to contribute to this effort, please submit your reports via our Community Bug Report Form.

All reports shared with AppleVis must first be filed with Apple via Feedback Assistant. More information about the Community Bug Program is available here.

You can still have the notifications read out by flicking as usual. They are just not read out by default.

Just checking, but have you made sure that Settings ~> Accessibility ~> VoiceOver ~> Verbosity ~> Always Speak Notifications is enabled?

Hi, re Brian's post yes that setting is turned on. Interestingly as this has gone on it seems if the phone is awake on the locked screen then it does still read them out. Only if the phone is locked and screen shutdown does this not work. Odd.

Hi,
I’m glad to know it’s not just me experiencing this issue.
I’m running the developer beta & seeing the issue as well.
I do have, “speak notifications” enabled.

Recently after the 3 or 4 beta of iPad VO does not read notification. It just say notification. Nuts.

Excuse me, I'm wondering the volume of VoiceOver. From iOS 15.7, The volume of all media playing is boosted while that of VoiceOver keeps at the same level. VoiceOver cannot be listened clearly when the media is playing. Does anyone discover any improvement on the new beta release? Thx.
