2-finger swipe on watchface not working consistently

It seems like 2-finger swipe on my Apple watch stops working at times. If I try to perform such a gesture, I just get the "thunk" sound as if I'm trying to normal swipe with voiceOver when there's no next item to move to. Anyone running into the same issue?

I'm not seeing this issue with the latest watchOS version 9.5.2 n my Apple Watch Ultra. Which watch face are you using?

I'm using the Activity watchface with a digital clock, I'm on an Apple watch series 8, running presumably the latest version of WatchOS since I only got it a month ago.

i also can't seem to activate the rotor by doing the 2 finger guesture that I'm used to from IOS, so I wonder if somehow, multi-finger VoiceOver gestures are borked on my device. maybe I toggled some setting where I didn't realize it changes the way VoiceOver behaves or sth. Going through all the VO settings now.
