Discord has dropped in accessibility. The fact that they don’t have an audio challenge just proves my point

So I tried to sign up to discord today on my iPhone, and what do I see. Image verification, great, I can just go down and there’ll be an audio challenge button, not a big deal
Oh my was I wrong
There was no audio challenge button anywhere! now tell me, why do you do that discord! That is so wrong on so many levels especially for visually impaired people Mark
What’s your thoughts on this whole thing that I have found out

If you do your research, you'll find that Discord has begun using HCaptcha to implement human verification for some operations. HCaptcha does not and has never offered an audio challenge alternative to their image verification challenge, thus the lack of an audio alternative is not the fault of Discord. Regardless, HCaptcha still cares about accessibility and offers a cookie-based method for by passing the CAPTCHA as opposed to an audio challenge. More details can be found at https://www.hcaptcha.com/accessibility.

I believe there's a menu where you can click on something like, get a text challange and it will ask you questions with yes and no answers.

Back when I wrote my Discord on Mac blog, I had a ton of trouble getting hCaptcha to work through Discord. It worked just fine on other platforms, however. So, is it working through Discord now?

Normally, hCaptcha provides the ability to bypass the challenge if a screen reading software is enabled. You have to check the "bypass" field, then proceed. For me, this works without problems. Nevertheless, captchas are always terrible in UX, and especially Apple provides better ways to verify that you are a real person which can be implemented very easily on the backend-side.

I literally just created a new account on Discord yesterday and was able to use the text capture where you answer simple yes/no questions as Brad suggested. I did try downloading the Mac app but in all honesty found the website quicker and easier to use once I got used to it.
