Watching MKV files on an iPhone/iPad

Hello All,
I've got some MKV files On my computer, that I want to be able to watch them on my iPhone or iPad. I know that I have to convert these files to mp4s, However, I'm having trouble finding a program to do this. Someone said you could use VLC player, and just use iTunes sharing to drop the file into VLC, which I did, but VLC has no audio playing with the video. I looked it up on the app store, and several other people were having the same trouble As I was with the video playing fine, but have no audio.
So I downloaded Media Player, And the same thing happened video, but no audio. So finally, I have the Remote File Manager app On my phone, and after reading some of the help files, I still cannot make any sense of how this app is used. But what I did was, I dropped the particular file I watch into this player, but now I can't find it anywhere. So my questions are, does anyone know how to use this Remote File Manager app? Is there a podcast I can listen to the demonstrates it? Or, does anyone have any better suggestions on how to be able to watch these files on my phone?
INI and all help would be greatly appreciated, as I've tried to figure out how to do this for the last two days or so.

Hi Shane I downloaded FlexPlayer a while ago. Unfortunately I had to buy a codec pack to play my file types. You might want to contact the developer and find out what file types FlexPlayer supports. I cannot remember if it supports the file types you asked about, but FlexPlayer is a nice app and it works for my needs. Sorry I cannot be of more help. I cannot remember the developer's info, but you'll be able to find it on the app store. Regards Hendrik

Hi Hendrik, I downloaded FlexPlayer, and paid the $7.99 for the codec package, but I'm not able to hear any audio. I emailed the developers, and I'm waiting on a response from them. Do you have any ideas as to what's going on, what I can try to do? The file that I want to play is definitely supported by the player. Thanks.
