To upgrade to an IPhone 15, or 15 pro model, has been the question/struggle for many. Both tout USB C, but the pro, offers the action button, which replaces the familior Silent switch. A short press, will silent the device, long press, runs an action of your choice, including shortcuts. For me, the big teas here, was starting/stopping recording within the Voice memos app.
You probably knew this already, but I fully learned it today. You can run a shortcut, from a Voiceover jesture, so that means, for example, create shortcuts to start, and stop recording, or get techy and create one, that does both with an if then. If you have two, you may assign a four finger swipe down, to start recording, and, four finger swipe up, to stop and save the audio, and yes, you can run these from your lock screen. They are going to be quicker than the action button, and for many may work just as well.
Head to settings/accessibility/voiceover/commands. Tap all commands, then, Shortcuts. Pick your shortcut, and then choose your jesture. It’s that simple!

this is cool, but I don't see a shortcuts option
This is cool, but I don't see a shortcuts option. All I see is when I double tap on all commands, the predefined commands are shown. no shortcuts..
I als don’t have option
Also do not have this option in my settings. I’m using an iPad 2018s iOS 17.
Hmm
I see predefined when I click on either keyboard or touch, But when I click on all, I see sections.

Go to the very bottom of the all commands screen
To find the Shortcuts option, go to the very bottom of the all commands screen. I’m not 100% sure on this, but I think you have to have shortcuts created in the Shortcuts app for this to appear. I have a few and I’ve been experimenting with them, and this is a really cool feature.
Thanks, Craig
Well said thank you for the conciseness. Yes I believe you would have to have Shortcuts created already for this to work.
wait, you have to have the shortcuts app installed?
Wait, you have to have the shortcuts app installed? No wonder I'm not seeing that option show up.
Interesting point
JC, that is an interesting point. I guess I would have to say that because this theory is using Shortcuts, that you would already have the Shortcuts app installed, so have not thought about the option Maybe missing if you don’t.
Unless you removed it ...
Unless you removed the Shortcuts app, I think it is automagically installed when you update your iOS.
Strange
I have the iPad for you and I don’t have it
This is such a clever idea…
This is such a clever idea. I love it.
Gesture Shortage
I looked through the Shortcuts app, so I know it's on my phone. My worry is that there are so few available or unused gestures for VO that it will turn out to be of limited use.
Regarding jestureshortage
Hi old bear,
The point is not to have a million shortcuts assigned to gestures, but maybe one or two.
I have one assigned to four fingers swipe up, to start and stop recording. Obviously, you’ll have to use an if variable to get it to toggle.
@Brandt
OK, then there's too many shortcuts that seem like they would be more useful when assigned to gestures. LOL Apple should limit how many shortcuts I would like to use in this way.
