I have an iPhone 15+ which I got about two weeks ago. Since updating iOS 17.2. My Two finger swipe right and left gestures only register about half the time the other times they register as one finger swipe left and right. This is not happening with any other gestures just these two. I have reassigned the gestures several times to a few different actions and it does not matter what action they are set to I have the same problem.
I’m wondering if anyone is having the same problem and if so, are there any workarounds?
The device is so new, and it seemed this is such an odd problem that I’ve never had before on any other device that I consider bringing it back to the Apple Store in case there was something wrong with the touchscreen. It seems to be a software thing since it coincides with the update. But it’s difficult to have a device that you just paid for that the basics don’t function.

I was having this problem until
I got tired of swiping before both fingertips were touching the screen because the command kept misfiring. My Solution: Touch both fingertips to screen; then swipe. This is what solved the problem for me.
No.
Use it for my rotor and no issues. It might be your finger nails that affect it. I have to keep them short to avoid problem.
Not sure if this is related
When I remapped the two finger swipe to a different action it would crash the app I was using it on. Every time. I don't know if it's just a problem with those gestures or not, and it was only with the two finger swipe left or right. Maybe something is up with that gesture.
Observations & Thoughts
Until about a week ago, I was using an iPhone SE2, with 2 finger swipe left and right setup to navigate to previous and next control, respectively.
Now on my 15 Pro, I find the 2 finger swipes work best on the bottom half of the screen.
What I think might be happening, is that the swipes with VO are conflicting with some of the new single finger swipes on the newer phones, i.e. phones withut a Home button.
Remember some of the new single finger swipes take up a bit of screen real estate, including:
• Swipe up from the bottom edge for Home.
• Same as above, but move upward a little further for App Switcher.
• Swipe down from the top edge of the screen for Control Center.
• Same as above, but move further downward for Notification Center.
There is also the pressure sensor for waking the phone, and even a reachability swipe gesture, though I can not get that one to work.
Anyway, I feel these new gestures conflict with VO. What do you all think?
Thanks Brian and all
Thank you all for your feedback.
Hey Brian, I have use an iPhone without a home button for several years and this is my first time experiencing this problem. There’s a possibility that I’ve been lucky but I’ve used multiple iPhones across that time and never had this problem never ever had a moment where I found any gesture to be unreliable on iPhone
I really appreciate your feedback, when you’re gestures don’t work properly do they register as one finger swipes or something else?
Ah, but...
You have never used an iPhone 15 before this year. 😝
When I try to use my swipes, and they fail, I usually get the equivalent of a 1 finger swipe, or sometimes a 1 finger tap.
This is my first iPhone without a home button, so I am still getting used to it. 😳
This sounds like my problem so much glad someone else is having
Haha thank you I really appreciate your comment. So glad to know someone else is having the same problem.
Take care and I hope you’re loving your new iPhone exclamation mark :)
Another factor
I recently noticed having similar problems with touch gestures misfiring on my new iPhone 15 pro. During this period, my wife noticed she had left air bubbles between the super tough glass screen protector she glued to my new iPhone 15 pro's screen.
Light bulb
The two might be related.
Same problem
Same problem but on my Apple Watch Series 9 with WatchOS 10.2, most of the times the two finger swipe registers as a right flick or a double tap. I really have to push hard with my two fingers in order to register correctly.
Should I go to an Apple Store?
According to Apple Support over the phone, this most likely is a software issue but it only can be verified in person
Do you think I should make it the trip in? given that it is a bit of a journey or wait to see if an update helps it
Just wondering what you would do?
I'm going to make a new thread regarding 15s
However in all fairness to this post, I will summarize by saying that I just got back home a couple hours ago. . .
With another Brand New iPhone 15 Pro. This time black as they were sold out of white ones.
