The past few months have not gone over very well at Apple. On the software side of things, we have seen patch after patch for every version of 'OS' that Apple designs. For the longest time I refused to update an iPhone due to the overwhelming reports of VoiceOver bugs, and instability, since September's initial release of iOS 17.0
Of course we've all, at the very least, skimmed over the various posts of things that were broken, buggy, or simply no longer worked as they did in earlier versions of iOS.
MacOS was not better, although at least with Mac, we are given the freedom to downgrade. Nevertheless, there have been a bunch of changes to VO, and macOS as a whole. One major change, and not necessarily the biggest, but noteworthy, is the 'improved' design of QuickNav.
Then came the big one; the all new iPhone 15. If you were rocking an iPhone 13 or newer and especially a 'Pro' version, don't bother upgrading. Not unless you absolutely must, because maybe your cousin came over for a visit, and decided to drive over your iPhone.
🤷🏼♂️ it could happen. . . .
From my research, the only real difference anyone is going to notice when comparing a 13/14pro and a 15 pro is in regards to photography.
There have been reports concerning the iPhone 15s. Some people say they tend to overheat. Some say they randomly freeze-up/crash. I think I even read one article where someone claimed batteries were exploding.

Anyways, this long and 'slightly caffeinated' post, is to share my sad, sad story of a beautiful iPhone 15 Pro. White. That was indeed the most beautiful paperweight I ever owned.
Honest.
So 2 weeks ago, I visit my cellular provider and go through the process of upgrading my iPhone; from iPhone SE2 to iPhone 15 Pro. The salesperson I worked with had her own 15, and though it was the basic model, she let me briefly check it out to see what I thought about it in terms of form factor, etc.
Over the past 2 weeks I've been doing all kinds of day to day things. Facetime calls (both audio and video), texting, emailing, streaming media from places like YouTube, Netflix, Audible, AppleTV, Prime Video, iHeart Radio, etc, etc and playing a few random games.
What I began to notice first, was the touch screen was not responsive. At all. There was, for lack of a better descriptor, response lag, also times where audio completely cut out, and not even haptics were working. Next was the heat. My particular 15 got so hot at one time, an error message popped up saying, "Charging paused until iPhone cools down".
What was I doing to make it overheat? Why, I was charging my phone. It was nice and cool when I plugged it in.
In the end, and in accordance with my cellular provider's policy on new phones, I took the phone back, explained everything, and they sent me home with another shiny new 15 Pro.
Heres to hoping this one does not do anything weird.
Like explode... 🤯

have a 15 pro max and no issues
I have a 15 pro max and zero issues. I certainly haven't heard of them exploding.

That absolutely made my day, still laughing, that was great!
Thank you, thank you...
I'm here all week. 🙇🏼♂️
So far so good with the 2nd 15 Pro. I have noticed this one is far more responsive, and doing everyday tasks like sending/receiving texts and emails, making/receiving calls, and things like web surfing and streaming media are incredibly fast. Again comparing to the phone I returned last evening.
So, to Dennis Long, I am happy for you, that your Pro Max has not given you any troubles. And I am thankful that my cellular provider was willing to work with me to replace a faulty iPhone.
Heres to hoping nobody else has to deal with this.
Same overheating problem
The screen of my 15pro seems to be working fine. I am getting the same issue as you when I charge my phone though; sometimes I'll plug it in at night and wake up to it only being 60 percent.
If you can, take it back...
Take it back and have them look it over. Otherwise if you have Applecare take it to your friendly neighborhood Apple Store. Either way, your iPhone, like mine, is brand new, and should not be getting so hot.
Off-topic advice:
Don't charge your device overnight.

AppleCare
If you have a new device, this problem is covered by the warranty, so you do not need to have AppleCare for Apple to repair the device or give you a replacement.
In some countries, you may have consumer rights in addition to the warranty. You should always research your rights before paying for a repair, whether from Apple or another service provider.
