Okay, I must be missing something here. I'm unable to enter my passcode using my HumanWare Brailliant BI 40X braille display connected to my iPad.
If I enter my passcode by hand, or with my Bluetooth keyboard, then switch to the Brailliant, everything works fine. I can use the Braillian to interact with the iPad, read texts, select buttons, change settings, etc. The Brailliant works. Just not when entering my passcode.
Here's what happens when I try to enter my passcode. I press an H chord + space, and the iPad responds that I must enter my passcode. I enter the six numerals without the leading numeral indicator. The iPad is silent while doing this. And if that's all I do, then sit and wait, eventually the ipad times out and goes to sleep.
I also tried entering the six digits, then pressing Enter. The Enter key has no effect. The Braille setting is set to uncontracted Braille. The passcode field has focus and is editing; regardless, I selected it with a dot 3, dot 6 plus Space. The iPad responded that the insertion point was at the start. I reentered my passcode. I got the same non-response.
Finally, I scoured AppleVis, but all I found was discussion of how to enter alphanumeric passwords. No one else seems to have a problem entering their passcode.
It must be something obvious, and I'm just missing it. Any help would be appreciated.

A clarification, please
Hi,
I'm not a Brailliant user yet, so please bear with me. What table do you use for inputting digits? And what does the H-chord +space bar do or mean? I'm asking because when I enter my passcode in Braille from my VarioUltra (Baum/VisioBraille), I never have to enter such a command prior to typing in the passcode.
Re: clarification
Hi Cordelia. The H chord + spacebar, dots 1, 2, 5 plus spacebar, is the Braille command to go to the home screen. If the iPad is unlocked, it goes to the home screen. If it's locked, it prompts me for my passcode..
I'm using the uncontracted Brille input table. This is from information I've gathered from other AppleVis posts. They were discussing entering passwords, but I assume I would use the same table for entering my passcode. Do you use a different table?
Problem seems to be solved
Okay, now I have repeatedly unlocked my iPad, and I know how it works.
First, I had to specify the numeric indicator, dots 3, 4, 5, 6. I'm not sure why I would need this because the passcode is all numeric, and the iPad only allows numeric input from the touchscreen. But for some reason I needed to tell the iPad that I was typing numbers. Okay, whatever.
The second issue: After I press the chord for the final digit, for some reason, I needed to wait about five seconds. Then, voila, the iPad unlocks,.
So the magic sequence appears to be:
Thnks, AppleVis. I guess I just needed to think out loud in order to figure this one out.
8 dot Braille
Hi, you can use 8 dot Braille in order to enter your password without using number sine to enter numbers.
1-2-4-5 change the input Braille table.
you need to make sure that it's on 8 dot instead of 6 dot Braille.
8 dot it is
I failed to mention in my original response/request for clarification that whenever I type Braille using a Braille display, I use 8-dot Braille (perhaps it's also called computer Braille?). Looking forward to learning new commands once I purchase a Brailliant.
Passcode
Hi paul.
If you go to unlock your iPad in 6 dot mode, you canalso press space with 4-5 after typing in the passcode. I sometimes find that my phone doesn't always recognize that I have inputted text, so I sometimes have to press spae with q twice to toggle QuickNav on and back off. There is a bug somewhere, but I haven't taken the time to file it or to try to figure out what triggers it. I hope this also helps.
A faster way
With your device locked and your Brailliant connected, you can press a cursor routing button to bring up the screen to enter your passcode.
Entering Custom Numeric Passcode?
I have a 14 digit custom numeric passcode. I bring the Enter Password prompt by pressing a cursor router key, then input my digits following the numerical sign. Nothing happens. While entering it by hand, I have to find the OK button and double tap it, but there is no OK button after entering the digits using the braille display. Both my input and output is set to Contracted Braille from IOS Braille settings.
I would say press dot 8
That should work and unlock
No Joy with F8 also
Thanks for the response. But pressing dot 8 also doesn't unlock the phone. In fact, the numbers are not being registered when I type them on the braille device on the pascode enter field. Only way to unlock I could figure out is to pan to each number and tap it using the router. But this proceass takes a good amount of time. After tapping each number on the screen I can then pan back and tap the OK button.
