I remember when I first tried 11labs and was blown away by it, nothing would top that, i thought, it could never happen.
Then I heard that Copilot could speak to you in the way open AI is meant to, (I tried open AI and whilst it was fun I deleted 3 accounts so thought I'd stay away for a while unless something really jumps out,) and thought that it wouldn't be anything special, well I was wrong.
You can tell it's AI, the voice has a bit of a hissy quolity to it but the inflection, the speed, the tone, it's awesome!
And then I heard Notebook LM and was blown away yet again, yes you can still tell it's AI if you know what to listen for but wow!
I'm honestly shocked at how fast we're moving through the world of AI and LLMS. I can't wait to see what next year brings.
What about you, what do you think about all this?

It's interesting the amount of human-like quality these nural TTS voices bring to the table... But having said that, I prefer either eloquence or Espeak for any serious reading even today because what I want to is to get through the maximum amount of content in the shortest possible amount of time in the most efficient manner. There are ways of using Microsoft Azure voices with a screenreader in a windows pc; I tried it out for novelty, but not for me the sacrifising of fast response times for the inflection and intonation. If I were making a youtube video and a voice for narration, well, things would be different then...
Content matters
I can stand Eloquence, if it is textbook style content that I am reading, but if it’s something like an actual book, regardless of the genre, I need something with a little more, “life“, to it. Eloquence is also really good for coding, or working with command line interfaces.
I use eliquence every day.
And I can't imagine moving away from it, even when I'm 50. But I'm just so happy at how these voices turned out.
Even character.ai is amazing,, even if it is clunky to use.
I prefer human-sounding voices
Eloquence is not, well, eloquent, for me. I'm glad Microsoft neural voices for Narrator can also be used, via software, on other Windows apps, and Siri voices can be used on VoiceOver. The choices for human-like voices are many these days.
What really amazes me, though, is sometimes when I ask Chat GPT to tell me a joke, it will actually chuckle, or have a smile inflection. That's out of this world!!!
It really is.
It's awesome!
