I had a bug when ios 18 first came out where the gesture I used to jump to the status bar weren't working. It seemed to be fixed in ios 18.01, but now that I've updated to ios 18.1, it's back, and work-arounds aren't helping.
I tried restarting my phone, and I tried assigning a different gesture, but no luck.
Anyone else notice this?

I don't know your gesture…
I don't know your gesture but for me it's 4 fingers swipe up, and it works well on 18.1.
Likewise
I also use four finger swipe up for status bar, and mine is working well also.
Thanks, but still no luck
Thanks for the suggestions. I had been using 2 finger swipe left to move to the status bar. I tried assigning other gestures, and none will perform that one command for me. I even reset all the VO commands, and still can't successfully get it to work. Looks like a call to Apple Accessibility in my future.
Sounds like it.
Sorry we couldn't be more helpful to your situation, Louise. That's crazy that your gesture for reaching the status bar is not, in fact, reaching the status bar. 😤😖
I experience it too
I experience also using my Braille Display.
When I do the command for Back it gos to the Battery precentage on a status bar and looss focus.
Also the status Bar command doesn't work.
Curious...
I wonder if this is an issue with the dynamic island? Is there an option in the touch gestures to move to the dynamic island?
That might be a possible work-around. 🙂
There's something wrong with these gestures.
Although I don’t have the same problem with gestures as you do, assigning gestures doesn’t work well for me either. When I try to assign a gesture to a shortcut, it can’t be done. A message appears saying that the gesture has been assigned to an incorrectly assigned command. This has been the case since system version 18.
Louise
Two things. I had this issue and to be honest every now and again it stops working. What I have found is when you perform the gesture make sure your fingers are firmly on the screen and rather than do a flick type gesture push your fingers across the screen. That seems to work for me. The other thing is do you have a screen protector on? I have a not proven idea that if the SP is not on straight it messes with the screen below.
Lee
Thanks Lee, but that also doesn't work. I can do almost anything else with assigned gestures, except move to the status bar. I even tried using a back-tap but no luck there either. All my other swipes and taps work as expected.
Hopefully gets addressed in an upcoming update, as this is one of my favourite gestures.
Right there with Louise
I love using this gesture on my device, makes getting into notifications and control center happen more fluidly.
Louise, you will not like this, but you may need to reset your gesture settings. No, I do not mean reset iPhone settings, just your gesture settings.
You can do this by going to Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Commands, and at the bottom of that screen is a, "Reset VoiceOver Commands", button.
HTH. 🙂
Thanks Brian
Thanks Brian, I did try resetting all my VoiceOver commands, and it didn't help. Y'r right about not liking to do it though, because I don't even remember all the commands I've created over time.
I think it's the command itself that's broken, because all my other gestures work just fine.
Experiencing the same thing
I've also been experiencing this bug for quite a while now, so it's not the latest update in my case. I can confirm that at least for me, it definitely has something to do with the dynamic island. It's not completely consistant to reproduce, but it always happens anytime I have anything showing in the dynamic island such as now playing for music or podcasts.
Dynamic Island....
Dynamic Island definitely sounds like it could be the culprit. As I mentioned, my gesture works fine, but alas, I do not have the dynamic island on my SE3. 😇
My gesture for status line
Thanks for bringing this up. My gesture to jump to status line has also quit working. I use a four-finger swipe up.
My suggestion solving this problem
I think It appears you're facing an issue with the status bar gesture in iOS 18.1. Check for updates, as Apple often releases quick fixes. If the problem persists, try resetting all settings and ensure accessibility features aren’t interfering. If these steps don’t help, consider restoring your iPhone from a backup hopefully this will help you.
Thank You,
Mike Taku.
