In the past I've used my Victor reader stream for podcasts but the Victor uses Ootunes and a couple of the podcasts I like have disappeared. I need a new podcast player then and I've been looking at the native podcasts player on my iPhone, but even though it looks like it should notify me when new episodes of the podcasts I'm following are available it isn't doing that. Assuming it has this ability what are some reasons that it might not be working for me? I clicked on one of the podcasts I follow and notifications are on, and I went under settings and into podcasts and notifications are on there too.
Another problem is that some of the podcasts I listen to have commercials that I'd like to fast forward through but I don't see a way to do this in the native app.
I'd appreciate any help I can get with this, and if the native app doesn't do some of the things I want to do is there another player that does?

There are quite a few accessible podcast apps I can think of: Overcast, Downcast, Pocketcasts, Castrow, Icatcher, and anytime podcast player. There is Podverse too, I know a VoiceOver user who uses Podverse, but it does have some accessibility issues. The podcast episodes aren't labelled properly. Personally I use iCatcher, because it's the only podcast app I've ever found where I can get lists of the most popular podcasts by category in different countries. I've tried the native podcasts app, but I don't like it much. The only thing the native app is good for is searching for a particular topic and giving you a list of episodes from various podcasts about that specific topic. As for the others I've listed, it might be a case of looking on Applevis to see what people say about each app. If you lock your screen while listening to any media on the iPhone, there are media controls including next and previous track. Another of these media controls is a slider you can use to fast forward and rewind through whatever it is you're listening to. This works in any media app I've tried. I imagine it'll work with the native podcast app. I've tried Castrow before too. I did like the fact you could queue episodes in any order from any podcasts in your feed and play them in any order you like.
