Battery health concerns on iPhone 15 Pro Max

Hi folks,

I've been using my iPhone 15 Pro Max for a year now—I bought it on November 30, 2023. No idea why I remember that date, but oh well! The battery health stayed at 100% for a solid eight months. However, over the last four months, it’s been degrading pretty quickly. It’s now at 91%, which is kind of concerning. I have 259 cycle counts and usually limit the battery charging to 85%.

I feel like the decline started especially after I installed iOS 18 in September. The update came with a lot of new features, Apple intelligence, and other stuff, so that could be a factor, but it’s pretty annoying. I also can’t get the same solid battery life I had about 4–5 months ago. You could be like "Oh, come on; it's just a phone and it's totally normal to have less battery life". And You would probably be right, but this phone is not inexpensive and I bought it, expecting to use it for years.

Anyone else experiencing something similar? How’s your battery life been? Should I disable Apple intelligence? But then, what’s the point of having a new iPhone if I have to disable its features?

Warm regards,
Mert Özer

I'm sure some might disagree, but the iPhone 15 did not have a good track record when they launched, regarding batteries and battery life. Take my experience for example. Between December and January (2023 and 2024 respectively), I bricked two iPhone 15 pros, brand new sealed in the box, that did not last more than two weeks. Both due to faulty batteries. As a result I ended up with my current iPhone, an iPhone SE 2022. Yes, I could've gone with something else, anything else really, but I was upgrading from an iPhone SE 2020, and at this point I just wanted to go with what I was familiar with. 🤷🏽‍♂️
Bottom line, it is my opinion that the iPhone 15s shipped out with faulty batteries, or at the very least, poor quality batteries, and it may just simply be time to update yours with a fresh one.

Thanks for reading. 🙂✌️

Thanks for your reply. I mean, I watched a lot of videos before buying this phone and it is a solid phone. I have never heard of such a problem like the one you experienced. I just don't think Apple would continue shipping these faulty devices after having these types of problems. Of course, I know you've had this issue, but yeah, I went to an Apple store with a scheduled appointment and they told me they are not allowed to provide a battery replacement if its capacity is over 80 percent, even if I'm paying for it. So I'm unable to have it replaced, unfortunately.

Hi, for comparison, I have a 15 Pro Max with a first use in November 2023, with 242 cycles, and its battery health is still 98%.

I wasn't trying to imply Apple would continuously ship out faulty phones, I just know that several iPhone 15 models had battery issues upon release back in September 2023. I picked up my first iPhone 15 Pro around the second week of December of that same year, so chances are good it was one of the first models to be shipped out for the iPhone 15 Pro for my Cellular provider, in my area. I just figured that if you have had your iPhone for at least a year, and the battery has degraded, that you might be able to replace it. If Apple says no, then I guess that is that.
It was just an idea is all. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Just got a 16 pro max, and am curious, when you're on the lock screen, where's the battery percentage? Yes, it's on in battery settings. Instead, I have to unlock to see what the charge level is. Any help? Shipped with IOs 18.2 so not the developer beta. Thanks

Once the battery degrades below 80%, you can change it or consider a new device be it the Pro Max or any variation. I use an SE 2020, replaced my battery in March, and now its health is 89%. Stop worrying and enjoy the device.

When the iPhone 15 pro and pro max came out, kept hearing issues about the battery. This is why I got the 13 pro. Also 14 had issues that I did not want to deal. Do not recall what were they but issues. Now I have 16 pro max. Cool and battery is good, however not great when using GPT on siri.

Good afternoon,
I have a 15 pro, which I bought earlier this year, after my 13 pro max began experiencing issues, including becoming hot & sluggish.
I bought the phone on 4/25/24 & have iOS18.2 installed. My current battery info is as follows:
Maximum capacity: 99%
Cycle count:244
This phone was manufactured in January 2024 & its first use was in April 2024.
I love it & Apple Intelligence works great!
Yes, my 15 pro has also began getting hot recently, but when it does, I just take my case off & let it cool for a bit, before putting it back on.
I hope this is helpful.

Gosh, that's a big difference. Please let us know if you see a massive degrade but I hope it works better than it did for me ahaha

It was pretty hot during the summer, and I traveled overseas a lot with my phone, so that could be part of the issue as well. But yeah, best to just enjoy the phone and never mind.
