A question about Magic keyboard and trackpad

Hi all!

I recently upgraded to the new iPad Pro M4 with the Magic Keyboard. My previous experience was with the 9.7-inch iPad Pro and its Magic Keyboard, which had occasional issues—most notably, the keyboard would sometimes fail to respond. The new Magic Keyboard, however, performs much better in this regard.

That said, I encountered some difficulty using the trackpad, which is integrated into the Magic Keyboard. Specifically, I was unable to use it effectively and wanted to inquire whether the trackpad can be used with VoiceOver, akin to how the trackpad on a Mac functions.

If anyone has experience or insight into the compatibility and functionality of the trackpad with VoiceOver, I would appreciate your guidance.

Best regards,

As far as I understand it, no. The track pad is not usable with voiceover.

Hi,
I thought as much. I have already prepared a draft mail to send to apple accessibility team. Let’s see what their response is.
If they can make some updates and make it accessible with VO, then the IPad Pro M4 will truly be my laptop replacement.
I will keep you all in the loop!

Yes. I tried the pro in an apple store and I don't see the reason for this. For us it will just be another good sized way to control the ipad with its main interface, touch. It would be just perfect.

Hi. I'm currently doing some research as I find the new changes coming to JAWS for windows particularly costly for us in the UK. I'm looking at moving over to an Apple Mac and was thinking of buying a Mac mini with a magic keyboard, but I was advised that I would need a separate trackpad. This post seems to indicate that there is a trackpad built-in. If this is the case, does the magic keyboard work with VoiceOver for Apple Mac? I know there have been issues with iPadOS and iOS. The agent that I was having a chat to via messages seem to indicate that I would need a separate trackpad which is why I'm slightly confused.

This is the keyboard for the iPad and not the mac. The magic keyboard for mac does not have a touch pad built in though, saying that, I never use the touch pad on my macbook air anyway. YOu can buy a magic track pad separately though if you so desire, it's just rather spenny.
