Hi everyone,
First of all happy new year .
I got a present consisting of headphones with a microphone and although the headphone work very well, the built-in micro doesn't, I checked the sound settings but I couldn't solve the problem.
Would anybody have an idea? I have the latest version of macos and the computer is from the last year.
Thanks in advance and best regards.
Rafa.

I’m no expert on here, however, I do know a little bit about tech-support.
Firstly, the make, and model of the headphones would be a key build up information to start with.
Secondly, do you have another device where you’re able to check that the device works properly?
Finally, is this your first time trying to connect a microphone to your Mac mini?
As I said, I’m no expert, but I am willing to try to help you solve the problem.

Hi, GOGO, sorry for answering so late, the headphones are L Quantum and I haven tried them on another device and yes, it's the first time I have tried to connect some headphones to my Mac Mini.
I really appreciate your help, my friend.
Best Regards.

First, are you sure you've selected it as an input? mac can be finicky like that sometimes. Second, try to carefully inspect the cable, the part that connects to your mac should have the tip, 2 rings then the sleeve. If there's only one ring you might need a different cable or a splitter.

Hi, Jim, I checked the things you said and everything is OK, but I'm not sure about the question of the imput, but the mac doesn't allow me to choose another because there is only an option and I think it's the correct one.
Thanks a lot for your answer and best regards.

I've got four mics hooked up to my M4 Mac Mini and all work without issue.

Describe the headset/mic connectors. Is it a single 3.5mm plug with three rings, or is it two 3.5mm plugs, each with two rings, one of headphones and one for mic?

If it's a single plug, are you plugging it directly into the Mac headphone jack? Check to make sure it's plugged in all the way.

If it's two plugs, what kind of adapter are you using? Where did you buy the adapter, what brand? Do you have some way to verify you've correctly matched mic plug from the headset with mic jack on the adapter? Because the adapters typically have identical jacks indistinguishable by touch. Did you try the adapter in another Mac port?

Then in systems settings, go to sound, and list everything in your input table. Have you switched to another mic and verified it works? Then switch back to your headset mic and test again.

What apps have you tested your mic with? If it's Zoom, I can assure you that's a very finicky app. You can go into the app and configure all the audio settings correctly, and it still won't work until you reboot, relaunch the app, and send prayers to the pagan gods. After you kick the mac a few times and go drown your sorrows in a pint of ale, when you return, everything will just work. Okay I'm exaggerating, but not by much. It's a flakey app even for the sighties.

Bottom line, do some due diligence. Let us know what you've got and what you've tried. Otherwise we're just throwing darts blindfolded.

Hi, Paul,
My mac only have a ring and my headphones only have a jack, the only device I can chose in the sound options is this mic and I tried on Messenger and Facetime, No I haven't tried on another computer but there is something I forgot to say and it's that you can remove the mic from the headphones.
Thank you very much for your kind help, friend Paul.
Best regards.
Rafa.
