Which synthesisers did you try this with? Also which browser?

You're trying to use Eloquence without paying for Eloquence. Every single addon that tries to do this that I've ever heard of causes problems for people. I'm fairly sure the IBM Via Voice addon uses SAPI4.x, for one thing. That can't be good.

I'll admit, I've never tried it, I used to use the Vocalizer voices and I bought SAPI5 Eloquence when it came out. So it's possible that I'm wrong, and that's not the issue. But like I said, whenever I've heard of weird problems like low responsiveness, speech settings not saving, and all sorts of other speech things, nine times out of ten somebody was using some cracked version of Eloquence, and when they stopped doing that, magically, things got better. I'm fairly sure at least the not saving issue affected all synthesizers too, until it got uninstalled.

What happens if you use NVDA plus q to quit, then arrow down to restart with add-ons disabled, then enable eloquence?

In old version of NVDA, this was observed. However, they fixed it in recent versions. But with that old issue, NVDA use to go almost scylent, trying to keep up with the system. In your case, it's not freazing or going scilent, it's finishing what it was speaking, and then announcing the next thing.
There's a setting in Windows, which affects how fast a reapeting key press can happen. Could it be that user somehow changed that setting and it's now causing this behavior?
I don't remember what the setting is called or where to find it, Google might help.
Edit: Lol, with all these tech support Q&As, Be My Eyes can create a decent Chat GPT bot for answering accessibility questions. They also own our answers, so, legally safe. Perhaps is that why the admins have been chasing and censoring language so aggressively in recent days?

Then use NVDA with ESpeak and see if you get that delay.

Let us know what happens, you shouldn't be getting a delay at all.

after trying everything else, you could try resettting windows and redownloading NVDA to see what happens.

I'm using Brave and the IBM Eloquence add-on, and I'm not getting this issue at all. I've tried navigating through this website and others using H and K, and everything is still really responsive and fast. It might be a case of just waiting for the next update if none of the troubleshooting steps above fix things. I wouldn't reset Windows though, not unless this issue really is a game-changer for you. It might take you ages again to get things back to normal. As Khomus or someone else said above, it might be worth getting rid of the IBM add-on altogether and seeing if your other synths are still affected. I'm just wondering if you've got any browser extensions or any other NVDA add-ons, especially ones that are incompatible with the latest version, something like this might be causing this too.

For clarity, I wanted to take a moment to publicly address a question that was raised in an earlier comment/question about our moderation guidelines and why they are in place.

AppleVis' audience includes people of all ages (including children), cultures, backgrounds, and lived experiences; and we want our community to be a safe and welcoming place for everyone. To that end, we do prohibit certain types of content, such as (but not limited to) harassment or discrimination based on any personal characteristic; profanity; indecent material; content which may appropriate the intellectual property of individuals or companies; and any other material which is not suitable for all audiences.

While not the primary reason, a major contributing factor to AppleVis' near-closure in 2024 was the increasingly hostile and negative tone in comments from some in our community. In that time of planning what would be next, if AppleVis were to reopen, it was clear to us that we would need to rethink how we did content moderation and where we drew the line on certain types of content. This was further validated by the results of our 2024 Community Survey, in which several members of our community shared concerns about negativity and other types of discourtesy on the site. One additional note from the 2024 survey responses is that more than one user reported that the climate/tone on the site had improved after the site's reopening.

While I believe that our moderation policies are reasonable and have resulted in a better atmosphere on AppleVis since our reopening, I recognize and respect that some may disagree. Even if you disagree with our policies, you are still absolutely welcome on AppleVis.

I think this has to do with how nvda and other SR parse web content as the user never directly interacts with the DOM like on mac and elsewhere. If I press h very quickly on applevis in this very page for example, NVDA will often do some back and forth before focusing on the actual last heading I stopped on. And this is the case no matter which TTS I am using. I've tried this with espeakNG, Microsoft OneCore and codefactory tts addon that still works for me by bypassing the api compatibility in the addon settings.
